“Seren,” he whispered huskily, the moisture he felt pooling in his eyes spilling free at last and tracking down his face.
Seren let go of a sob and reached out, pulling him close. She pressed his head against her chest so that his ear rested over her heart.
“Oh, my love, what you must have been suffering all this time. I will do everything in my power to heal those injuries, Brennon Roarke, as well as those of your body. I will not let the darkness have you.”
Brenn didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. He simply held this woman, thanking all the Celtic gods and goddesses above and below for sending her to him. She was his salvation, this Fae-being made of love and light, to heal his nephew, and to heal his heart and restore his mind.
Seren gently pulled him away from her so she could kiss him. First, she pressed her lips to his eyelids, then moved her mouth down his face, kissing away the tears. Brenn felt no shame in front of this woman, and she did nothing to make him feel ashamed.
“Alone, we have both endured far too much sorrow and hardship,” she declared. “But together, we shall overcome it all and thrive. Let us leave the darkness of night behind as a new day dawns upon us.” She glanced over at Rori, then added with a grin, “Upon our family.”
With one more lingering kiss, Brenn seconded her statement, the joy in his heart swelling and finally outshining all the darkness that had once lingered there.
