The Deal--A Sexy Billionaire Romance Page 11

by Clare Connelly

‘Oh, God.’ The promise is so erotic. ‘What else?’

‘How I’m going to run my tongue along here...’ he draws his fingers out and in ‘...to taste you as you come? How I’m going to make you come again and again and I’m going to watch you, listen to you begging me for more, begging me until you can’t think straight.’

‘I’m already there,’ I promise throatily.

His laugh is a dismissal. ‘You only think you are, Imogen. Believe me, it gets worse.’

  He is right.

We stay for another hour, and by the time we leave, my body is in a state of sensual torture. There’s no helicopter waiting for us tonight. We take his car, and I don’t sit too close because I feel as if one touch, now we’re alone, will result in a complete explosion, and a short car ride isn’t the place to satisfy that. I sit on the edge of my seat, staring out of the window at New York, the invisible paint we’d used in the black-lit room dry now and any hint of it concealed by the clothes we’ve put back on.

But not being able to see something doesn’t remove the evidence of it and I feel every brush stroke in the fibres of my soul.

The driver brings the car into a basement garage and I expel a sigh of relief that Nicholas clearly hears, if his soft laugh is anything to go by.

  But I’m not amused.

I’m alive with feelings that are new to me and seriously intense.

I am fuelled by a hunger that I insist on owning.

Edward opens the doors and we step out, my smile polite, my mind elsewhere.

We reach the elevator and the doors open after only a second. I contemplate jumping him but for the same reason I resisted in the car, I keep my distance now, aware that he’s watching me, trying to decode me.

He has no idea what he’s unleashed.

But he’s about to find out.

The doors ping open into his apartment and the details I recall from last time flitter in my mind once more—the triple-height ceilings, a wall of pure glass, a balcony overlooking Central Park with a swimming pool and a hot tub. I know from the tour he gave me last time that there’s an indoor squash court down the corridor, a yoga studio he’s converted into a gym, four bedrooms, five bathrooms and two separate staff rooms, which he has vacant.

‘I don’t like living with other people, even if they’re at the end of the corridor.’

I get his point. I hate it too. I have a cleaner who comes once a fortnight and that suits me just fine.

As soon as the front door clicks shut, I turn around to face him, my breath dragged from my lungs, the rasping sound filling the elegant Jeffersonian lobby.

‘Didn’t you say you were going to fuck me so hard I couldn’t speak?’ I demand, crossing my arms over my chest.

His expression shows surprise but only for a moment, then he’s sweeping across the tiles, scooping me up over one shoulder as if I weigh nothing and carrying me to my heaven, my desperation, the sweetest torture I’ve ever known—his bedroom.

  CHAPTER NINE

  ‘OH, MY GOD.’

I must have fallen asleep. I push up onto my elbows to find Nicholas watching me, that unbearably sexy grin on his too-handsome face, and my heart does a painful little catapult against my ribs.

‘What time is it?’ I reach across the bed for his wrist and the platinum gold watch he always wears. ‘It’s seven o’clock? Why didn’t you wake me?’

I push the sheet back, looking around for my underpants before remembering I only have paint-smeared bikini bottoms to put on. And they’re in the lounge.

‘Because it was more fun to watch you sleep,’ he says, his voice frustratingly relaxed despite my obvious panic.

And I’m panicking, for no reason I can easily pinpoint. Yes, I need to get to work, yes, I have meetings in an hour. But it’s more than that.

For some reason, spending the night feels like crossing a line that mentally I wasn’t willing to cross. It is a bigger surrendering of myself than I intended. Another line in the sand, one I hadn’t realised I wanted to abide by.

‘I’m serious, Nic.’ The diminutive of his name slips out, but not for the first time. As soon as I say it I have a vivid recollection of crying the shortened version of his name over and over again, as pleasure racked my body in a way I almost couldn’t process.

‘You got somewhere you have to be?’

I pull a face. ‘It’s seven o’clock on a Wednesday morning. What do you think?’

‘I think you should cancel it and come back to bed,’ he murmurs, patting the matte black sheets. As a further enticement, he pushes the sheet back, revealing his rock-hard, naked body.

Predictably, my insides squeeze. And despite my panic, a smile spreads over my face. ‘I can’t,’ I say, in an almost whining tone. ‘Help me find my bikini.’

His laugh is low, a rumble. ‘Oh, no, Miss Anonymous. I have no intention of aiding your escape. In fact, if I had my way, you’d be tied to this bed so I could have my very evil way with you some more.’

  Okay.

I have meetings. But there’s also this. I stop looking for my bathers and give Nicholas the full force of my attention. At his mention of tying me up, I remember something from our night in Sydney.

  ‘You ordered handcuffs.’

He lifts a brow, his expression teasing, silently prompting me to continue.

‘In Sydney.’ Heat blooms in my face. ‘You had handcuffs put in the toy chest,’ I remind him. ‘But we didn’t...’

He stands up, his dick at a ninety-degree angle to the rest of him, his haunches so strong and capable. ‘Yes?’

He likes teasing me. I get it. I suck in a breath and assume my very best kickass CEO expression. ‘We didn’t use handcuffs.’

‘No.’ He shrugs nonchalantly, his naked body next to mine now.

‘Why not?’ It’s breathy—all of me is consumed by his closeness.

‘I wasn’t sure you were ready.’

Indignation flares inside me. ‘Oh, really?’

‘Hmm,’ he agrees, and then he’s lifting me up, wrapping my legs around his waist and carrying me easily through his bedroom to the tiled adjoining bathroom.

‘What are you doing?’ Though it’s self-explanatory when he flicks on the shower taps and steps past the wide glass wall.

‘Helping you get ready for work.’ He grins, and when he eases me onto his cock, I give up pretending I want to be anywhere but here.

‘I thought we were talking about handcuffs,’ I murmur as water douses me from overhead, plastering my hair to my face.

‘Let’s see.’ His eyes probe mine and then he takes another step so my back connects with the tiled wall and one of his hands captures both of my wrists, pinning them over my head. It’s just him, and yet his grip is vice-like. I couldn’t easily wriggle free, even if I wanted to.

There’s a challenge on his features as he thrusts inside me and there’s something almost painfully erotic about not being able to touch him. I surrender to the strength of this feeling as he thrusts hard and deep, filling me, awakening barely rested needs.

My ankles dig into his back and I hold on as though my life depends on it until I’m coming around him. I go to pull my hands free but he shakes his head, dropping his mouth to my breasts and pulling one of my tight, sensitive nipples between his teeth. I shake all over, the pleasure doing funny things to me.

My orgasm is intense, and even as I come he continues to torment my breasts and hold my arms high above my head so there is no reprieve from the pleasure, no relief from this insanity.

I drop my head to his shoulder as my tortured breath ravages my body and then he’s easing my feet to the floor, pulling out of me gently, letting my arms go all at once. It’s a strange desertion. He’s still rock hard.

‘You didn’t...finish,’ I murmur, hating that I can still feel so embarrassed after all we’ve
shared.

‘Mmm...’ he murmurs, biting my earlobe. ‘As much as my parents are desperate for me to get married and have kids, I don’t think they have a New York–based heir in mind.’

‘Oh, my God.’ It is a shocking wake-up call. ‘I didn’t even think...’

‘I did. A bit too late,’ he says with a self-deprecating shake of his head.

‘I’m on the pill,’ I say, to reassure myself as much as him.

‘And I’m clean.’ He shrugs. ‘Still, I’d rather not take the risk.’

Why does that make my gut clench—and not in a good way?

I paste a smile on my face and reach for the body wash. ‘And now, I really do have to get ready for work.’

He runs his mouth over my cheek, capturing my lips, his smile sweet and slow. ‘Coffee?’

  My heart lurches. ‘Thanks.’

I lather myself all over, my body so completely raw and tender that everywhere I touch is like an erotic shadow of last night. My breasts are pink from the brush of his stubble, my inner thighs too, and I have a row of hickeys across my hip, leading towards my buttocks.

He was right to pull out, not to come. He’s sure as hell right to protect us from any unwanted consequences.

But just the mention of that has made me think about a future that I would have said, two weeks ago, I don’t actually want. A future filled with the laugh of a small person, the dependence of a child, the love of a little one.

I’m not maternal—I have no idea what being maternal even looks like, since my mother wasn’t and I suspect I’m even less so. I don’t have anything to go on. And yet, at the mention of little Rothsmore heirs, something very close to my ovaries fired to life in a way that has taken my breath away.

Thank God we agreed this was just going to last a month. I can’t imagine much worse than being with Nicholas Rothsmore for real, allowing myself to do something really stupid and fall in love with him.

And there is such a risk there, because he’s too good at this. He’s charming and funny, sophisticated and smart, so damned thoughtful and, as for his bedroom prowess, there’s no need to wonder why he’s earned the nickname ‘the Playboy of Manhattan’.

But only a fool would fall in love with Nicholas Rothsmore, and I’m no fool. Reassured, I step out of the shower and towel myself down. When I step into his bedroom, my eyes are transfixed firstly by the stunning view of Central Park, and then by a bag on the foot of the bed. I recognise the distinctive thick black paper with the embossed white logo. Curious, I reach in and pull out a lingerie twin set. My smile hurts my cheeks.

Pale cream and the most delicate lace, it antagonises my already sensitive body, the lace so raw on my nipples that I gasp as I move, every single shift of my flesh reminding me of his possession of my body.

I suspect this is something he foresaw.

When I slip into the kitchen a few minutes later, his knowing smile confirms my suspicions.

‘Thank you for this.’ I wave a hand over my flesh.

He shrugged. ‘It seemed like a wise precaution, given the whole paint-on-body situation.’

‘I didn’t mean to fall asleep,’ I say, reaching for the coffee. He’s made it black, which is strange, because that’s just how I have it. I sip it and let out a small moan of appreciation.

‘Good?’ he prompts over the rim of his own mug.

‘Shh,’ I tease. ‘Let me drink this, then we’ll talk.’

We drink our coffee in silence, my little ritual one I’m glad to observe, even side by side with Nicholas.

‘I didn’t mean to stay over,’ I reiterate, a few minutes later, placing the empty coffee cup in the sink.

  ‘Why?’

‘I just didn’t plan on it.’ I shrug.

‘We were up late.’ He says the word with emphasis.

I think it was about two when I last saw the time. ‘I remember.’

‘It would have been kind of dumb to slink home at that hour.’

‘Nonetheless,’ I murmur, my voice a little icy, ‘I prefer to sleep in my own bed.’

His face shifts with something like amusement and then he shrugs. ‘Sure, if you’d like.’

I’m slightly mollified, but not completely. Our conversation from earlier sits inside me like the sharp edge of a blade and I can’t really say why.

‘Do you have much on today?’

‘Yeah.’ I nod, looking around for my clothes. They’re arranged on the edge of a chair. I stride to them, pulling the dress on over my head only to find him watching me with a small smile on his face. My blood pounds through me. ‘You?’

‘Sure.’ He shrugs. ‘But I’d like to see you tonight.’

Tonight. Pleasure sounds in my head, pleasure so intense it almost drowns out the warning bells. Because he is ever so slightly too much for me to handle. Because I would fully believe it if a doctor told me he had the addictive properties of a drug and that I was already way over quota.

‘Not tonight,’ I say, shifting into my coat, then looking around for my handbag. It’s on the kitchen bench. I lift it over my shoulder, checking I have everything.

  ‘Tomorrow night?’

My heart is hammering. I keep my head bent so he doesn’t see the way I’m shaking. ‘I’ll message you.’

He nods, a frown on his face that he quickly erases.

‘I don’t have my bikini,’ I say, when I reach the door.

‘Leave them. Next time, we’ll use the hot tub.’

It conjures images that are too hot to forget.

I smile and nod, pushing down on my doubts as to the wisdom of this. ‘Sounds fun.’ I lift up and press a kiss to his lips then turn and walk away, needing a bit of space and a bit of time.

And maybe he gets that, because I don’t hear from him at all that day. Nor the next. By Friday afternoon I’m starting to worry I’ve done something stupid and ruined this.

And it is truly the best sex I’ve ever had, but, more than that, I’m having fun.

Why did I get so bogged down in worrying about the future when we’ve both been clear about what we do and don’t want?

Because I’m a worrier. It’s what I do. If it were a job, I’d be supremely qualified.

Before I can regret it, I pull my phone out of my handbag and pull up our message chat.

Is it my turn to plan a date?

I have a pounding in my throat as I send it, and a nervousness that seems somewhat ridiculous. But when he hasn’t replied an hour later, I’m having to fight not to send another text.

It’s six o’clock when finally a message buzzes in.

What a day. Hot tub? Beer? Takeout?

My smile is so huge I feel as if it’s splitting my face in two.

  Perfect. See you soon?

  His answer is immediate.

  The sooner the better.

I breathe out, relief rushing through me. Everything’s fine; nothing to worry about, whatsoever.

  CHAPTER TEN

THREE DAYS AND I feel as though I haven’t seen her in three years. It’s just like that first godawful week, after Sydney, when I had no idea who the fuck Miss Anonymous really was and I worried I might never learn. That I might never see her again, nor know the pleasure of her beautiful, sensual body.

  I am beyond impatient.

I have had to fight hard not to message her, but I had the feeling when she left on Wednesday morning that she needed a bit of space, and the last thing I want is to pressure her. This is all about fun—for her and for me.

Fortunately, things exploded at work, which kept me busy. Still, I must have checked my phone eleven billion times. My bed smells like her, sweet and lightly fragranced, so I have lain awake at night and remembered everything we shared.

She arrives a little after seven and I prowl to the door, buzzing her up and waiting
impatiently.

When she walks in, I groan and pull her into my arms, smiling as I kiss her, holding her tight to my body, breathing her in, tasting her, feeling her, needing her, wanting her, loving this.

‘Hey.’ My greeting, minutes later, is gruff.

  ‘Hey yourself.’ Hers is breathless.

I want to drag her to bed and never leave, but already the sex thing is taking over from what was meant to be a casual flirtation, some harmless dating fun.

I have to slow that down a bit, as much as that idea is akin to scrubbing my skin with acid.

  ‘What do you feel like?’

Her cheeks rush with pink in that way she has.

‘For dinner,’ I clarify, grinning, anticipation tightening my gut, and in all parts of me, as I look forward to how I know this night will end.

‘Oh.’ She bites down on her lower lip; I brush my thumb over her flesh, so she parts her mouth and bites the pad of my thumb instead. ‘Pizza?’

‘A girl after my own heart.’

‘There’s a great place just a few blocks away.’

‘I’ll get delivery.’ I move towards the kitchen bench, lifting my phone and loading the app. I place an order for a few different ones. When I turn around, she’s stripped down to her underwear, her eyes locked to mine with an intensity that almost bowls me over.

  ‘Hot tub?’

Hell to the yeah. I nod, affecting an air of calm nonchalance. ‘Go ahead. It’s warm. I’ll grab some beers.’

I hear her squawk as she steps out onto the balcony—it’s just below zero out there. I turn around just in time to see her running across the tiles and up the one step before sliding in over the edge, so just her head bobs up. The relief on her face takes my breath away.

So does the fact she’s here, in my penthouse, her smile, her eyes, her body, her laugh.

I spin away and yank out some beers, cracking the tops of them as I walk, placing hers on the edge of the hot tub.

‘Oh, thank God, it’s real beer.’

  ‘What did you expect?’

‘Tepid lager?’ she says with an impish grin.

I laugh, stripping out of my clothes, down to my jocks, and stepping over the edge of the spa. She’s watching me with undisguised hunger and my dick reacts accordingly.
