Once I’m sure Shy’s gonna stay asleep, though, I sit up in bed and look over at Beast.
“I’m gonna take care of business tonight,” I tell him. “You want to come?”
“I’d be pissed if you didn’t invite me,” he says. “We’re ride partners.”
So we are. I nod. “I’ll handle it though.”
He grunts in agreement.
We dress and put on our Butchers jackets, and ten minutes later, I’ve left Shy a note on the bed in case she wakes up. Club business, don’t call, be home before dawn. Love you. And I leave her the S necklace that I was a dick and took from her, because it doesn’t bother me to see it anymore.
I’m not letting my past fucking dictate my present anymore.
The pawn shop’s not closed when we get there. Late nights are when all the shady dealers do their best work, so we walk in and the bell rings like an omen.
Beast immediately heads for the camera in the corner with a can of spray paint. I head to the back room to go and say hello to my pal Bernie.
He’s not happy to see me.
I give him one last chance to comply.
He pulls a gun on me, but he’s always been slow. I’ve got two bullets in his brain before he can even unlock the safety on his gun.
Once it’s done, I feel relief. I’m in control again.
We clean up the scene and find an arsenal of guns that would make the army weep, along with a logbook of transactions. My old buddy Bernie’s been getting guns from an overseas supplier on the sly and selling them to our enemies. It’s good info, and I tuck the book into my jacket. Then, Beast and I just stare at the massive amount of guns we’ve uncovered.
“Those aren’t gonna fit on the back of my hog,” Beast says.
“Me either,” I say. “Want to call Epic? He drives a cage. Give him some shit to do.”
He grunts.
I nudge him and laugh. “You’re lucky you don’t have any damn drama.”
He elbows me back. “You got enough for both of us, bro.”
I laugh. “Not any longer.”
I’m back, baby.
