Burning Desire Page 22

Busted. Elias ended the conversation then cleaned up from breakfast. He found Babs dusting in his living room. He never went into this room so he was surprised at how bright it was. That didn’t reflect this usual mood.

Babs had opened the curtains. “This room is so gloomy until you open the curtains.”

No, it was gloomy until Babs was in it.

  Chapter Seven

Babs liked this room almost as much as the library. Elias stood in the doorway, watching her.

  “You like what you see?”

“I think I made that abundantly clear last night.”

He pushed off the doorway and stalked to her. He had a hunger in his eyes and once again she swore she saw long canines in his mouth. He stopped just inside her personal space.

“It will be hard to get any work done with you standing there.”

“Maybe I have a better idea how you can spend your time.”

  “Well, you are the boss.”

He smiled. No canines. “I am.”

She had no idea what he had in mind. Okay, she did, but if he wanted his house to be clean, she needed to be dusting. She couldn’t do that on her back with her legs in the air. Not that she minded spending her time that way.

  “Take off your clothes.”

Well. She put down her duster and began to unbutton her blouse. He still had that hunger in his eyes. This man was insatiable. Besides paying of her debt, she’d have memories of some of the best sex she’d ever had.

He stood as she undressed. He watched her, licking his lips.

“I want to play a game,” he said when she was fully naked. “You up for it?”

  “Yes.”

She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t think about it. If it meant sex again with his man she’d run naked down the middle of town. Even if town was far away. She’d walk. Naked. Didn’t matter.

She wanted him inside of her again. Their joining was akin to coming home after a long day at work. To find a party. And you were the guest of honor.

He stepped closer to her. “You sure?”

  “Yes.”

“Keep dusting. I want to see you clean naked.”

She blinked, but picked up her duster. She’d been doing the coffee table so she bent over and continued dusting it. He gasped. She heard his zipper, but didn’t stop. Then his feet were pushing hers apart.

She stopped movement as his hand found her warm center. She could barely pay attention to what she was doing. Her legs were splayed and she teetered a little. He held her firm. Oh. God.

She was going to come. Bent over a coffee table. Like she’d never been before.

“I think the couch needs work.”

Dusting a couch? She moved away from him, but he stopped her. “I want you over the back of the couch.”

She did as he said. Her ass in the air. Her face in a cushion. His feet were back to spreading hers. Her big fat ass was in the air and he didn’t seem to mind. She could feel his erection poking at her.

Before she could say anything he was inside of her. Her vagina was singing. Somehow he was hitting all the right spots as he slammed into her. This wasn’t sweet love. This was fucking and she was enjoying the hell out of it.

  ***

Elias knew he wasn’t going to get anything done while Babs was here. She was bent over the couch, her pretty, white ass in the air. He slammed into her again and again.

He didn’t want to feel what he felt, but he did. She was his. She was home. He’d finally found the woman that might never leave him, but he had no idea how this was going to work out.

She wanted to leave. Eventually she’d die unless he found a cure for his vampirism. A conundrum.

She moaned louder with each stroke, pushing back against him. He held her hips so he could push into her harder and harder. Her vagina clenched around him and he went over the edge with her, spilling his seed.

Finally the climax ended and slumped over her.

“Holy shit, Elias. That was incredible.”

He kissed her back then helped her to stand. She didn’t appear bothered by the fact that he hadn’t take his clothes off. He’d just undone his pants.

“The whole feel of your pants on me, rubbing me. I’ve never felt like that.”

He knew the feeling. He’d never fallen this hard for a woman this soon. “Glad you liked it.”

“You want me to keep cleaning naked? Because I will. I’ll never put clothes on.”

“Might be your new uniform when no one’s in the house.”

  She chuckled. “Seriously?”

“No, because I’ll get nothing done and you’ll get noting done.” He sighed then stroked her breast. “You hungry?”

  “After that? Yes.”

“I’ll make you something to eat.”

“A sandwich is fine. Don’t go to any trouble.”

But he wanted to. He wanted to serve her and make her happy. He couldn’t tell her that. It was nuts. He shouldn’t feel this strongly. Yet, he knew. She was it. All he needed.

“Put some clothing on. I’ll be back with a sandwich.”

He had to leave because his canines were coming out. He didn’t know why he was losing control with her. The urge to feed was strong and he’d just done it this morning. Maybe all this sex was putting his need on overload. He could slip downstairs to his refrigerator and take a quick drink

He did, wiping off any residual blood before he made her a sandwich. She was in the library when he caught up with her.

She reached up to his face and wiped. “You have something on your face. It’s red.”

  Yikes. He’d missed a spot.

  “Did you cut yourself shaving?”

Was not the time? Should he tell her? Her phone buzzed. She pulled it out of her pocket. “Odd.”

  “What?”

“My credit card is paid off.”

  “So?”

  “I didn’t make a payment.”

“Maybe it’s a bank glitch. Things happen.”

Her eyed turned to him and then she examined the hand that had wiped his face better. “I think you have some explaining to do.”

  Chapter Eight

Babs put the sandwich on the table. This had all been too good to be true. She knew it. Something was odd here and she needed to know before she packed her bag. That had been blood on his face, but he didn’t have a cut.

And someone had paid off her credit card.

She sat on the edge of a leather wing back chair. “Go ahead.”

He sat across from her, his fingers twitchy. I do have something to tell you.”

“You paid off my credit card. Why?”

“I did. All of this is going to sound nuts.”

  “Try me.”

He took a visible breath. “I’m very rich. Like I’ll never spend all of this money rich. My interest makes interest so I paid off your card.”

  “Why?”

“Because, and this won’t be the strangest thing you hear today, I love you.”

Her heart leapt because she was in love with him. What else was there? Wasn’t that crazy enough? She wanted to jump into his arms and profess her love. Wasn’t that nuts?

  “What else?”

“You did wipe blood off of me. It wasn’t mine.”

  “Whose was it?”

Was he doing human sacrifice in his basement? She shuddered. That would be a deal breaker.

“I don’t know. I get it from the blood bank. In bags.”

In bags? She tried to hide her surprise. “What exactly are you telling me.”

  “That I’m a vampire.”

So the long canines she’d been seeing? They were real. She digested all this. A vampire was in love with her. No, Elias, an amazing lover and sweet man was in love with her. That he was a vampire was secondary. Guess that ruled out kids, but she wasn’t sure she wanted them anyway.

  “Show me your teeth.”

He smiled and there they were. The long canines she’d been glimpsing.<

“You haven’t run screaming from the house. I’m going to take that as a good sign.”

She smiled. “Can I touch them?”

  “Be careful they are sharp.”

She reached out and ran her finger along the top, not the sharp part. “Do you feed on humans?”

“No, I find that distasteful. Much easier to get from the blood bank. They think I’m a private hospital.”

She laughed. In this day of the Internet it would be easy to set that up. “So what happened next?”

“What do you mean? Next? Are you going to stay?”

  “Yes. I love you, Elias.”

He smiled. No canines this time. “You love me?”

“Yes. What do we do next?”

  “I don’t understand?”

“Well if we’re to be together forever, don’t I need to be a vampire?”

She couldn’t imagine living with him, knowing that she would die and he’d have to grieve for her. That wasn’t fair.

“You want me to turn you?”

“Of course. I’m not going to find anyone better and frankly I have nothing to lose.”

He straightened. “I’m going to give you some time to think about it. Meanwhile, I’ll tell you what I’ve been doing in the lab.”

  ***

Elias led her downstairs. To the part of the house that he’d forbidden her to see. He only had a few lab animals in cages. The rest was equipment he used to mix up formulas that will one day cure him.

“I’m researching a cure for vampirism.”

She looked around, stuck her finger in a cage to pet a rat. “How close are you?”

“Not close at all, sadly. I have even more reason now to be cured.”

  “Me?”

“Of course, Babs. I want to be human so we can be married. And have a normal life.”

“But I’m willing to be turned.”

“I know, but I think you should think that through.”

“Tell me the downside,” she said, sitting on a stool.

“The process isn’t fun. It hurts for a day or so. Then you’ll need to feed. A lot. If you don’t feed on a human then you’ll never get the taste for them. The bags of blood will do.”

  “What else?”

“You can’t go out in the sun. I can because I’m old.”

  “How old are you?”

He hesitated, but he wasn’t going to lie to her. “Three hundred and fifty years old.”

Her mouth dropped open. “I can’t do in the sun anyway. Look at my red hair and pale skin. I’m a night person. Not a morning person.”

“Think about this, Babs. Unless I find a cure, this is permanent.”

He wanted her to know that he would change this if he could. He’d love not to be a vampire so he could give her a normal life. A family if she wanted. As it is, he couldn’t do that. Not in his present state.

“I understand. Look at the benefits. I get you. Forever. And a very long forever, not just fifty years. Five hundred years.”

She was sure. She didn’t blink. Her gaze did not waver from his.

  “What’s next?”

“I have to bite you, but we’ll do this in my bed. You’ll be more comfortable and I can close the curtains to keep out the sun.”

He led her upstairs. He was excited and worried. He didn’t want her to resent him a few hundred years down the line. She held his hand firmly. Her pulse was normal. As if he were leading her to see a picture instead of what he was leading her to.

  “Lay down.”

She did, on the bed. She smiled up at him. “I love you, Elias.”

“I love you, Babs. You are my soulmate. I know it.”

  “You are mine.”

  “You ready?”

  “Sure.”

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. He’d never loved anyone as much as he loved her at this very moment. He took her hand as he lay down next to her.

“It’s going to pinch and sting a little. And it will be a little arousing.”

She laughed. “Just do it, Elias. Let’s start our life together.”

He leaned her head to one side, exposing her pale, white neck. Then he sunk his fangs into her. She didn’t even gasp. No, she let out a Rebel yell.

  Intimately Bitten

  Chapter 1

Nadia sat at her desk and sighed. It had been another long night. As much as she loved her job, she wondered if maybe she needed a break before she burnt out. Reading other people’s writing and working with authors to make their book perfect was the career she’d been working for since she graduated with her two degrees. She’d final made the promotion to publisher last year and knew she needed to prove her worthiness. So she worked 80 plus hours a week just to keep on her tight schedule. She tried her best to take on as many authors as possible, knowing she would be helping them create their dreams.

She closed her tired eyes and took a deep calming breath. She needed to reach a stopping point and call it a night. She’d already been losing too much sleep and it was finally warring on her. Opening her eyes her they blurred from overuse and she dropped her red pen on her desk and stood before she changed her mind and pushed through for another couple of hours. It was time to go home, open a bottle of wine, and finally schedule that vacation she’s been saving for since she was 25. Ten years later she’d be able to take a month hiatus if she wanted.

Her boss told her she needed to take a couple of weeks off, and now was the time. She would have her assistant finish the last couple chapters of her last manuscript and then she’d be on plane out of the city. Her original plan was to go to a quiet resort so she could be on her own, but her sister told her she should go to New Orleans and sight see. There was a lot to see and maybe she’d get out of her comfort and do something crazy. If there was a place in the world to do something she would never dream of doing otherwise, New Orleans was the place.

Nadia left a note for her assistant and turned off the light and left her office locking the door behind her. She was bone tired. Every inch of her body ached, and as she walked down the hall and stopped in front of the elevator to wait she imagined what her life would be like if she wasn’t such a workaholic. Her feet hurt like hell and all she wanted to do was take her heels of and kick up her feet.

  * * * *

A bottle of wine later and Nadia finally felt like she was brave enough to push the green ‘book flight’ button on her screen. She wasn’t one to do anything except what was expected and taking a random trip to New Orleans wasn’t on that list. She played by the rules and lived a strict life. Everyone in her life knew she was predictable and for once she wanted to prove them wrong.

Nibbling her lip, her finger hovered over the button that could very possibly change her life. Her sister said she’d never be the same when she came back, and for the first time in a long while Nadia hope and prayed for a change. She was tired of being dull and boring, and lonely. It was time to put herself out there and try to find a man. What she really wanted was a one night stand with no strings attached hot sex. It had been nearly three years since she had sex. And if that wasn’t a depressing thought, she hadn’t even been on a date in over a year. Bringing her finger down towards the keyboard, she pressed enter. And her fate was sealed. Tomorrow at ten in the morning she’d be on her way to New Orleans ready to explore the city that held so many delightful adventures.

She closed her laptop and stood from the couch stretching her muscles that were now admittedly more relaxed after the wine and decided to call it a night. She had to get up early and pack so she could get to the airport in time.

After doing her nighttime routine Nadia climbed into bed and closed her eyes. She let out a breath and hoped she wasn’t making a mistake. Traveling across the country was major and she smiled proud she’d finally began to make a change.

  Chapter 2

>   Aurel paced the bar waiting for the beautiful curvy woman to show up. He’d had the vision and knew she was the one. The one meant for him. He grew tired of searching for the perfect mate, and once he stopped looking fate sent him the woman with enough curves to sate he desires. He couldn’t wait to run his fingers all over her body. Just the thought of touching her soft olive skin had his cock hardening and his fangs lengthening. He ran his tongue along the tips pushing them back. It wasn’t time. Not yet anyhow.

“Snap out of it, you don’t know for sure she’s yours. There might be another reason you had the vision,” Reyes said sternly.

Aurel knew his friend didn’t want him disappointed, but he didn’t like being told he was wrong about a vision. He knew what it was for and the fact that Reyes doubted him was a disappointment. “You doubt me really? Haven’t my visions always been correct? And this one is no different. You’ll see.”

Reyes was the leader to their family and for the most part Aurel had the utmost respect for his maker, but sometimes when he treated him like a child, he wanted to rebel as such. He wanted to be treated as an equal. He was second in command after all. He deserved some level of respect and he had proven himself time and time again.

“I don’t doubt you my friend, I just don’t want you to get too excited. Fate is cruel sometimes.”

He sighed knowing Reyes was right. He shouldn’t be planning his mating ceremony until he knew for certain that she was the real deal. And what if she was and she refused to be his mate? He shuddered at the thought of having his own mate refuse him. He’d be heartbroken and humiliated and to make matters worse, he’d be alone for eternity. He’d be a joke to Vampires everywhere. In history there weren’t many mates who refused the bond, but it was possible especially if the mate was human. Sometimes they just didn’t get that feeling.

The bar door swung open, and it was her scent that caught him first. She smelled like rosemary and caramel. His mouth watered and his fangs dropped with such force the tip nicked his tongue. He watched her walk in looking a bit frazzled, with flushed cheeks and wide doe eyes. She glanced around the large bar but her eyes froze on him for a second before she finished her perusal of the place. Then she spotted Reyes and she froze again. He heard Reyes’ quiet growl and he looked at his maker whose reaction to the plus sized beauty was the same as his. Shit.
