  Details: Sixty-nine anti-abortion protesters were arrested when they blocked access to Kennedy's office.

  Target: President Richard Weisaecker

  Location: Hamburg, Germany

  Details: A man punched Weisaecker in the face as he was leaving a theater. Bodyguards immediately seized and arrested the man. Weisaecker had a bruised nose and cut lip. The man was a bodybuilder with mental problems.

  Location: Detroit, Michigan

  Details: Kerrigan finished her practice and was walking off the ice when a man struck her right knee with a club and fled. The man and others involved were eventually arrested.

  Details: A man stripped, grabbed his genitals, and yelled at Folsom, following Folsom's speech at a school. An officer arrested the man.

  Details: Fans mobbed Diana while she was attending a ballet without her bodyguards. She fought her way through the crowd to her car. Police publicly stated that by not using bodyguards she was setting herself up for an assault or kidnapping.

  Details: A man wired himself to a box of TNT and held deputies at bay for several hours to protest Clinton's trip to Normandy. He later set off the bomb, killing himself.

  Details: A boy staked out the White House to get Clinton's autograph. Secret Service agents stopped him when he chased Clinton's motorcade on foot.

  Location: Gaza City, Gaza Strip

  Details: Amid death threats and reports of assassination attempts, Arafat visited the Gaza Strip. Police seized the pistol-grip lens of a cameraman, and he was beaten. Thousands of people surged over a fence and police fired shots in the air, killing one and wounding ten.

  Details: Damian was singing at an outdoor concert when an audience member rushed on stage, tackled and began choking him. The concert was stopped and the man was arrested.

  Location: Camden, New Jersey

  Details: A man took a mental health counselor hostage with a fake bomb and demanded to see Whitman. He surrendered after two hours.

  Location: Denver, Colorado

  Details: Romer shunned the use of bodyguards, but a strange call about his attendance at a function prompted his security detail to send a trooper to meet him at the event. When they left, the trooper spotted a car with two men following them. The trooper attempted to evade the car by driving over 100 mph with Romer hiding in the back seat. The car chased them for twenty miles before the trooper evaded them.

  Location: Port-au-Prince, Haiti

  Details: Bodyguards were unable to part the mob of people that surrounded Aristide's armored Chevrolet Caprice as it left the palace. They backed it onto the palace grounds and later left by a back way.

  Location: Santa Cruz, California

  Details: A man was arrested when he came to King's book signing with a sign stating, "King is a murderer. It's true or he'd sue." The man accuses King of killing John Lennon. His van was covered with these scrawled accusations.

  Location: Tokyo, Japan

  Details: A police helicopter chased a man flying an engine-powered paraglider over the Imperial Palace. He landed after a two-hour flight, but was not arrested.

  Target: PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat

  Location: Gaza City, Gaza Strip

  Details: Arafat went to the funeral of Palestinian Leader Hani Abed, who was assassinated on the day before. Abed was killed when he opened his trunk and a bomb exploded. A ring of bodyguards escorted Arafat. The crowd shouted threats, ripped off his headdress, and shoved him out the back door into the rain.

  Details: A man was charged with unlawful entry and making threats after he was found clinging to a fence outside the White House. He was not armed and he told authorities he just wanted to see Clinton.

  Details: A man parked his car next to the White House fence and announced that he had a bomb in the vehicle. He then ran from his vehicle, but was quickly apprehended by Park Police and Secret Service officers. No bomb was found.

  Details: A man was arrested on the Ellipse, an open park between the south grounds of the White House and the Washington Monument. He allegedly was carrying a gun.

arrested for unlawful entry to the White House grounds. He entered the grounds when the southwest gate was opened briefly to let a vehicle leave.

  Details: Between four and six shots from a 9mm weapon were fired at the south side of the White House at 2:05 a.m. One went through a dining room window, while others hit near the president's bedroom window on the second floor. Clinton was asleep and there were no injuries. The case remains unsolved.

  Details: A homeless man charged across Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House, chasing a U.S. Park Policeman with a nine-inch knife. Police shot him twice when he refused to drop it. He died the following day.

  Location: Monrovia, Liberia

  Details: Massaquoi narrowly escaped unharmed when protesters ransacked his home. His three bodyguards fired into the air. Another bodyguard died when the grenade he was holding exploded.

  Details: Po-jung was meeting to discuss compensation with relatives of 64 people killed in a nightclub fire. The meeting turned ugly and they overturned tables and hit Po-jung.

  Details: Three-hundred union protesters stormed Gingrich's district office, wrote on the walls, and scuffled with staff members. Two men were arrested for fighting with police.

  Details: A mob of fisherman greeted Jack with angry shouts, pelted him with four flour bombs, and held him inside a meeting room for over an hour.

  Details: Four protesters, shouting "Buchanan is a racist" disrupted his press conference. Buchanan and his bodyguards shoved them off the stage.

  Details: An attacker climbed onto the stage during her speech and punched her in the abdomen.

  Details: A man jumped the southeast fence and ran toward the White House brandishing an unloaded revolver. Two uniformed officers wrestled with him. One officer shot the intruder in the arm and the bullet also hit the other officer.

  Details: A man carrying an unloaded gun scaled the White House fence. He was shot and wounded while scuffling with the Secret Service about 30 yards from the East Wing. He had asked to see Clinton.

  Location: Hollywood Hills, California

  Details: Robert Hoskins was shot three times by a security guard after he scaled the fence around her house. Hoskins survived, was tried, and sentenced to prison. He had been pursuing the singer for some time, reportedly tried to climb her fence some weeks earlier, and had expressed delusions about marrying her.

  Location: Yonkers, New York

  Details: A man wearing a holstered gun and a park ranger's uniform was arrested when he tried to enter the seminary grounds for the Pope's speech. The man told police he was there to protect the Pope.

  1239. Date: December 1, 1995

  Target: President Bill Clinton

  Location: Washington, D.C.

  Details: A man was arrested when he drove his car into a restricted area near the White House after a gate was opened to allow a tour bus to enter. His car contained a .22 rifle, several rounds of ammunition, a knife, and a machete.

  1240. Date: January 28, 1996

  Target: Prime Minister Shimon Peres

  Location: Jerusalem, Israel

  Details: Police fired tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons as thousands of protestors stormed Peres' office. Thirty officers were injured, including one who lost an eye and another who was paralyzed. Seventeen protesters were injured.

  Target: Governor George Allen

  Location: Richmond, Virginia

  Details: A man drove through a checkpoint and stopped at the gate of the Governor's Mansion. Police removed him from the vehicle and found a .380 pistol. He said he wanted help from Allen to get a job. He was held for a psychiatric examination.

  Target: European Envoy Hans Koschnick

  Location: Mostar, Bosnia

  Details: Hundreds of irate Bosnian Croats surrounded Koschnick's car and called for his death. Two French NATO armored vehicles rescued him.

  Target: Presidential Candidate Pat Buchanan

  Location: Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

  Details: Secret Service agents disarmed a supporter who showed up at Buchanan's rally. They returned the pistol unloaded to the man after the rally. It was Buchanan's first day under their protection.

  Target: Governor Mike Foster

  Details: Seven thousand people rallied at the state capitol to protest Foster's stand against affirmative action. Marchers shouted, "Kill the beast!" A delegation was allowed to deliver demands to the door of the Governor's Mansion. They tried to push their way inside once the door was opened, but SWAT officers kept them out.

  Location: Albany, New York

  Details: Reverend Al Sharpton led a protest group and built a cardboard city on the lawn of the Capitol Building. About 1,000 attended the rally to protest budget cuts. On March 27, the group stormed the State Assembly's chambers.

  Target: Former President Mikhail Gorbachev

  Location: Siberia, Russia

  Details: While campaigning for reelection, Gorbachev was punched in the head by a drunken man. He was held for psychiatric evaluation.

  Details: A federal judge ruled that police could no longer take signs away from peaceful protesters outside security zones. He ruled that New York City police violated a man's free-speech rights when they seized his sign at a Clinton event in 1993. It read, "Mr. Clinton: STOP CAMPAIGNING AND LEAD!" The judge also ruled that police can't send protesters to "pro" or "anti" areas based on the protesters' views, unless officers think violence would result.

  Location: Annapolis, Maryland

  Details: Police arrested a man who was trying to pry open the gates to the Governor's Mansion at 2:23 a.m. When they confronted him, he ignored them and continued to pry the gate.

  1249. Date: August 29, 1996

  Target: Governor Parris Glendening

  Location: Annapolis, Maryland

  Details: A man was arrested after he placed an envelope addressed to Glendening in a cigarette urn at the Capitol entrance. It contained a disposable tablecloth and printed materials. On August 5, the same man left a package for Glendening outside a basement window of
the Capitol. It contained two wires, an alligator clip, some printed material, and a diaper. EOD teams removed both hoax devices after the Capitol was evacuated.

  1250. Date: September 17, 1996

  Target: Pop Singer Bjork

  Location: Miami, Florida

  Details: An obsessed fan mailed Bjork a book booby-trapped to squirt sulfuric acid in her eyes when she opened it. He then videotaped himself committing suicide, while listening to her music. Police found his body and viewed videotapes, one of which showed him making the booby-trapped book. Scotland Yard intercepted the package at the post office and destroyed it.

  1251. Date: September 22, 1996

  Target: Pope John Paul II

  Location: Paris, France

  Details: Five thousand demonstrators marched during the Pope's visit, protesting him and the French government for paying for his security and aircraft.

  1252. Date: October 19, 1996

  Target: Parliament Members

  Location: Canberra, Australia

  Details: An angry mob of 25,000 protesters smashed their way into Parliament with wooden planks, hand tools, and a trolley. They rushed past police lines, smashing windows. They were angry about planned budget cuts.

  1253. Date: October 28, 1996

  Target: Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto

  Location: Islamabad, Pakistan

  Details: Over 2,000 religious students, demanding the resignation of Bhutto, tried to storm the Parliament Building before being fought off by police and soldiers. They accused Bhutto of rampant corruption and mismanagement.

  1254. Date: November 9, 1996

  Target: Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi

  Location: Rangoon, Burma

  Details: A mob of about 200 people attacked the motorcade carrying Kyi and other pro-democracy opposition leaders. They beat on their cars with fists and sticks, smashing windows and denting fenders.

  1255. Date: December 23, 1996

  Target: CIA Headquarters

  Location: McLean, Virginia

  Details: An unemployed defense consultant drove into the CIA's main entrance so fast that police could not activate a pop-up barrier. The truck barreled across the grass and up the steps before hitting a handrail and stopping 15 feet from the lobby. As he was arrested, the man threatened to kill President Clinton. Thankfully, the truck did not contain explosives.

  1256. Date: January 10, 1997

  Target: Parliament

  Location: Sofia, Bulgaria

  Details: About 50,000 protesters mobbed Parliament, demanding new elections. Riot police had to rescue over 100 trapped legislators. Protesters broke into offices, smashed furniture and computers, and set an office on fire.
