“Oh my God, Rodney. I had no idea she was like this. What are you gonna do?”

“Keep doing what I’m doing. Leave work early to make it there and hope that what I said is true. She’s already got a man following her around. It’s only a matter of time that her focus goes strictly on him and getting high. I hate it for Justin but she’ll eventually just abandon him completely. Until that moment happens, I’ll just have to be on guard. And I’ll make damn sure she doesn’t mess with you again. I mean it when I say that you and Justin are the most important things in my life.”

The comment made Amelia smile, which made Rodney smile as well. She leaned in and kissed his forehead, her lips smooth on his skin. “I am?”

“It’s the truth. I won’t let anything happen to you or Justin. And please, don’t ever doubt what we have going. This shit is real. You are not in the way of Justin. What you and I have is nothing short of incredible.” It was the closest thing Rodney could say to I love you than actually saying those three strong words. And it was only a matter of time before he’d actually say it.

Amelia smiled again, this time, kissing his lips. Rodney took her taste in, her lips glossy and sweet. “You sure know how to sweet-talk a lady, don’t you?”

Rodney laughed and got off his knees, his anger over Susan’s actions fading away. She didn’t deserve to steal their happiness. He wasn’t going to give any more power to her.

Sitting beside Amelia on the couch again, he clasped his hand in hers and said, “When it’s the truth, it’s easy. So, what are your plans for this evening?”

  Chapter Nineteen

Rodney’s fears were so palpable that Susan might do something with Justin that he couldn’t shake the worry. His time spent with Amelia had been wonderful and that evening, they had made love two times before finally falling asleep. But Susan was still in the back of his mind, taking away his joy and he hated that she had that power over him. He couldn’t even focus at work, checking his phone multiple times to make sure that the school hadn’t called about issues with Justin and Susan showing up.

“Hey, Hector, I think I’m gonna take the afternoon off. I need to run a few errands and we’re all caught up on roofs. There’s some clean up that needs to be done at that house over on Fourth Street but that’s about it.”

Hector nodded from across the desk. “You got it, man. Go take care of things.”

Rodney sent Amelia a text on his way to Susan’s house, letting her know where he was. She wasn’t a fan of him having anything to do with Susan but if it meant protecting Justin, she understood why. He wasn’t even sure what he was going to do and knew well enough that getting a rise out of him was her ultimate goal. But he also couldn’t sit back and allow her to run his life, even from afar.

Pulling up in the driveway of the address she had given, his assumptions about her new life were accurate. It was a run down trailer house in a trailer park - he never wished drug use or bad decisions on anyone but he wanted her to lose interest in Justin. It felt crappy to even think that on the mother of his child but she had made her bed. Now she needed to sleep in it.

Susan came out on the porch as Rodney got out of his truck. Exhaling a long line of cigarette smoke, she smirked as he went up the wobbly steps, almost stepping on a nail that stuck out of the wood.

  “You’re looking real good, Rodney.”

He adjusted his baseball cap and made sure to stay far enough away that she couldn’t touch him. “What the hell is going on, Susan?”

“Let’s go inside and have some fun. This new guy I’m with is great in bed but you put him to shame. You’re bigger and better.” She reached out to grope him but he side-stepped and avoided the physical contact.

“Susan, I’m not here for that. I’m here to talk about Justin.”

“Oh, that’s right. You’re screwing another woman now. Is she as good as me?”

“We’re not here to talk about her.” He slammed his hand down on the porch railing and grit his teeth. “Why the hell are you being this way? Why do you keep showing up at school when you’re not supposed to?”

“Because I love how much it pisses you off, Rodney.”

“It goes against the divorce, Susan. You know I can file on you for this, right?”

She giggled and glanced at him from the corner of her eye. Her devious stare was haunting and it made Rodney feel uneasy. She was definitely under the influence of something.

“If you were gonna file on me, you’d have done it by now. Face it, Rodney, you still love me.” She edged toward the door and opened it, the screen squeaking as she crossed the threshold inside. Rodney didn’t want to, but he followed her inside. His conversation wasn’t over and he did want to see how the place looked. Seeing the mess in the living room confirmed he’d never let Justin come over.

“Please stop doing this,” Rodney replied, his nose burning from the thick scent of cigarette smoke. He made note to the foggy pipe on an end table. “You’re smoking crack now?”

“That’s not mine. You know I like pills.”

“So that’s your new man’s habit? He sounds like a winner.”

“Don’t judge us.” Susan wagged her finger in front of his face and took a long drag off of the cigarette. “Beg me to stop, Rodney.”

  “Excuse me?”

“You want me to stop coming around the school then I want you to get on your knees and beg me!”

Rodney scoffed and adjusted his baseball cap again, looking away. She was in no mood to compromise with him. “If you show up at the school like that again, I will file on your ass, Susan. If anything happens to Justin, I’ll kill you.”

“Oh, I love the fire in you, Rodney.” She turned to walk toward the kitchen and when she turned around, she unclasped the tank top she was wearing, revealing her naked chest to him, her bare breasts inches away from him. “Fuck me one more time and I’ll be out of your life forever.” Giggling, she groped one and moaned.

“Don’t do that.” Rodney took a step back but ran into a table. “Don’t do that, Susan.”

“You used to like them, Rodney. Don’t you remember? You’d suck on them. You’d clutch onto them. You remember that time…”

“Shut the hell up, Susan!” Cutting her off, he side-stepped the table and went to the door. “I’m not going to sleep with you. Do the right thing and leave Justin alone. You have never had an interest in being his mother. Leave us alone. Get high all day if you want with this new guy of yours but leave us alone, Susan.”

“Oh, come on. Since when do you turn down a chance to have sex?”

Reaching for the door, he exited before she could say anything else. He hurried to his truck and got inside, taking a few seconds to catch his breath. So much for getting through to her. She wasn’t right in the head which meant that he’d have to keep a really close eye on Justin. She had him right where she wanted him and he had fallen right into her trap. Punching the roof of the truck, Rodney clenched his jaw and yelled out a string of curse words before putting the truck in gear and leaving.

“Is everything okay?” Amelia poured Justin more juice but noticed Rodney wasn’t saying or eating much. “You hardly touched your food.”

Rodney ran his fork through his potatoes and took a pull off of his beer, shrugging. “We’ll talk about it in a little bit.”

Patting his hand, Amelia gathered up the dirty dishes and put them in the sink. Justin had gone into the living room to play, leaving them alone in the kitchen. She didn’t bring it back up - something was bothering him and hopefully, he’d feel like telling her when he was ready. Sitting back at the table, she sipped on some red wine, both silent for a bit.

“Justin ate more than you tonight.”

Rodney nodded and pulled at the label on the beer bottle. “My visit with Susan didn’t go well. In fact, I think I made it worse.”

“How?” Amelia wished the woman would just disappear. While it’d be tough on Justin at first, he’d eventually be b
etter for it.

“She loves seeing me reeling. She loves seeing me pissed. That’s exactly what she got today.”

“I’m sorry, Rodney. What else can we do about it?”

Finishing his beer, he threw the bottle in the trash and grabbed another from the refrigerator. “I didn’t want to do it, but I guess I start reporting every time she shows up when she’s not supposed to. The stipulation of the divorce was she would get to see Justin some under supervision but if she continues to show up at school, they’ll completely take it all away.”

“Good. Maybe that’ll get her to be mature about it all.”

Rodney ducked his head and took a deep breath. The divorce had been tough on him, regardless of the circumstances behind why the marriage had ended. Susan needed help but was unwilling to take it. Amelia knew he had once loved her. There was still a connection due to her being the mother of his child.

“She came onto me. Big time.”

“She did?” It made Amelia see red but she controlled it. Rodney was mature. He’d never let anything happen.

“Yeah. Took her shirt off. Told me if I had sex with her again she’d leave Justin alone. You should’ve seen the place, Amelia. Crack pipes all over the table. It was filthy. I’ve never seen her this bad. It was mainly pills and booze when we were married. I just… It hurt to see her that way.”

  “Did you call the police?”

  “No. I should’ve. I know I should.”

“That’ll ensure that she won’t mess with Justin.”

Rodney nodded and looked into her eyes. There was a sorrow behind his gaze and she pulled him in for a hug, kissing the top of his head. His warm breath on her neck was invigorating and all she wanted to do was comfort him and pull him away from the hell he and his son were going through.

“I need to tell someone. I know.”

“It’s not just for Justin. It’ll help her too, though it doesn’t seem like it.”

Rodney leaned in and kissed her - Amelia could taste the beer on his breath as his tongue delved into her mouth. He needed to relax. He needed a release.

“Is Justin asleep?” she asked between kisses.

“I’ll get him to bed. Don’t go anywhere.”

  “Like I’d want to leave.”

Amelia laughed and waited at the kitchen table. A few minutes later, Rodney stood in the doorway that separated the living room and kitchen, his shirt unbuttoned enough to reveal his tan chest against the blue silky fabric. His wavy hair was already disheveled and there was a sharp look of desire on his face. Her eyes looked him up and down, stopping at the bulge in his jeans. There was no question what he longed for.

“Stop gawking at me and get over here,” he said, his voice husky as he leaned on the door frame.

Kneeling in front of him, Amelia unzipped his pants, freeing him from the restraint of the jeans and boxers. His erection was large, his skin tight as she flicked her tongue on his tip. He hissed through his teeth and closed his eyes - the veins in his neck bulged as she took him deep, his size hitting the back of her throat. She took in his taste and gagged when his hips thrust forward. Her hand cupped him and he moaned in pleasure at the attention he was getting.

His hand cupped the back of her head, pulling her hair away from her face. “Look up at me, Amelia. I wanna see your eyes.”

Doing as he asked, she looked up, her mouth spread open, sucking on him, feeling his erection throb against her tongue. He was so large that it was hard not to gag again.

“So sexy seeing you like that.”

Backing away, he held his length in his hand and smiled. “You almost let me finish but I’m not ready.”

“What next?” Amelia was still kneeling on the floor and he reached down, guiding her up. Pinning her to the wall, he kissed her deeply, his erection pushing against her stomach. She wanted him. She wanted to feel him deep within her, probing hard.

Turning her around, she faced the wall. He spread her legs with one hand and his manhood traced her ass. Lifting her hips, he slipped into her from behind, filling her up just like she had hoped, her warm and wet walls conforming around him like a perfect puzzle piece. Both his hands groped her breasts, clenching onto them tightly, his grasp harder with each thrust inside of her.

They had made love several times now, each time more sensual than the last, but Amelia could tell he was frustrated. His thrusts were harder and he was rough but it still felt amazing and the thought of her being the object of desire, the release he needed after a stressful day made her love for him stronger.

“Ah, Amelia… damn… so good.” His words were short pants, matching the rhythm of him thrusting in and out. She felt his warm seed fill her up and he pulled out, his body still pressed against hers, sandwiching her between him and the wall. Neither of them spoke for a few seconds as his fingers massaged her clit, allowing her a few more seconds of pleasure before it was all done.

“Damn it, I forgot to put a condom on.”

“It’s okay. I think it’s better without one anyway.” Amelia turned to face him, both of them completely naked, standing between the kitchen and living room. His erection slowly faded but neither of them moved, admiring each other out in the open.

“I can’t get you pregnant. And I sure as hell didn’t pull out.”

“It’s fine, Rodney. You’ve got enough to worry about right now.” Stepping toward him, she cupped his cheek and kissed him. “You’d be a liar if you said sex wasn’t better without a condom.”

He smiled and pinched her nipple. “Are you at least on birth control?”

“No. But I’m not ovulating, so stop worrying.” Walking toward the refrigerator, she made sure to stick her ass out. She could feel his eyes on her and she grinned as she glanced over her shoulder. “Let me make you a sandwich. Then we can go again. You need to relax. I’m going to see to it that you do.”

His strong arms around her surprised her. Pulling her away from the refrigerator, he bit down on her shoulder as he cradled her in his arms, carrying her down the hallway to the bedroom. “Screw the sandwich. I wanna skip to dessert.”

Lying her on the edge of the bed, he spread her wide and buried his face between her legs, his tongue flicking her in all the right places. She was already sensitive from the sex just minutes before but no power in the world was going to pull her away from him. His whiskers were like sandpaper on her sensitive skin and her hips thrust upward when he inserted two fingers, heightening the pleasure of the oral pleasure he was giving her.

“You better relax, Amelia. I’m gonna be down here all night.”

  Chapter Twenty

Rodney woke up with the taste of Amelia still on his lips. She had responded well to the oral sex and he couldn’t get enough of her, finally having to force himself away from pleasuring her that way. He was sore from being up all night making love to her but it was worth it. Mission accomplished - it had gotten his mind off of the drama with Susan and he hadn’t felt so relaxed in a long time. Rolling over, he reached for her but she wasn’t there. Sitting up, he wiped the sleep from his eyes and pulled on a pair of sweats near the bed.

It was a little after seven AM. Thankfully, it was Saturday and he didn’t have to worry about getting Justin ready for school. Walking down the hallway, he poked his head in Justin’s room - he was sound asleep and Rodney hoped he’d sleep in. The boy was exhausted from everything just like he was.

“You need to leave! Please go away!”

Amelia’s voice was loud and coming from the front porch. Hurrying down the hallway, Rodney opened the door. The man was familiar but Rodney didn’t know him.

“Ah, look who it is! Romeo! You know, you really should think about closing the blinds before you have sex. You two put on quite a show last night!”

Rodney stepped forward, putting Amelia behind him, closing the void between the man and her. “You must be Phillip,” Rodney replied. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Wanted to see how my girl was doing.
You could be a murderer or something.”

Rodney clenched his jaw and balled his fists. Suddenly, his memory came back to him like a light bulb literally coming on over his head. “You were with Susan at the school the other day.”

“Was that a question?” Phillip cocked his head to the side and laughed. “You should be a damn detective!”

  “You’re with Susan now?”

“Small world we live in, isn’t it? You’re fucking with my girl, I’m fucking with yours. Poetic justice.”

“I have a restraining order on you, Phillip!” Amelia yelled from behind Rodney and he made sure to keep her behind him. He wasn’t going to let him hurt her.

“It’s just a piece of paper. You think I give a shit?”

Rodney stepped closer, gently pushing Phillip backward. “You need to get off my property. Now. I don’t know why you’re here!”

Phillip smirked and took a drag off of his cigarette. “Just wanted to rate you four out of five stars for last night’s performance. I’d give you five but your head blocked a lot of the view there toward the end. But by the sounds she was making, you know your shit down there!”

Rodney couldn’t control his temper anymore. The mention of his time spent with Amelia lit a fire under him and he punched Phillip in the face, making direct contact with his jaw. He felt the crackle of the impact with bone and Phillip fell backward, landing in the yard next to the porch. Standing, he rubbed his jaw and wiped the blood away.

“You son of a bitch! You’re gonna pay for that!”

Rodney clenched his fist as the pain radiated down his arm. It was a mistake punching him but he couldn’t take it back now. “Get off my lawn. You come around here again and I’ll do worse.” Turning on his heel, he guided Amelia back in the house and locked the door, double checking it for safe measure. Looking out the front window, he watched until Phillip was out of sight.
