When It All Falls Down 4 - It Just Ain't Over Yet: A Chicago Hood Drama (A Hustler's Lady) Page 15

by Tamicka Higgins

Ayana got off comparatively easy, as it was her first time in trouble with the law. She was found guilty of aiding and abetting a crime. However, neither she nor Tramar ever mentioned that she was the getaway driver. Tramar took full responsibility for the money, which amounted to a little more than $33,000, they’d found in the car. As far as the car’s origin, they all remained silent on that matter. Ayana was then sentenced to three years in a women’s correctional facility, with probation afterward. She’d have to stay within the confines of the state of Illinois for five years after her sentence.

Tramar, on the other hand, was essentially crushed under the fists of the criminal justice system. He was charged with robbery in the first degree for two banks, and then for the murder of the security guard he killed. A host of other charges followed, such as fleeing and evading and conspiracy – the latter for helping Jackson to organize his part of the crimes. He was also charged with Byron’s murder. In the end, once the dust settled on the case, Tramar was given life in a maximum security federal prison. And he would never be given the chance for parole.

Frank and Vivica took in Quan. His mother’s side of the family was not nearly as financially stable as Frank and Vivica. The courts therefore determined that it’d be in the best interest of the child for him to live with his father’s parents. They were essential in helping the little boy to move past the death of his mother and the incarceration of his father. It took both Vivica and Frank a while to figure out how to explain everything that had happened. Eventually Quan was able to see his father.

When Ayana was finally released from prison, she was able to move on with her life. It was hard to live without Tramar. She forced herself to bond with her mother again after what could only be described as a cold war. Seeing Neeci cry at the trial was a big wakeup call. Part of her conditions of release was that she was to have no contact with Tramar. While this was difficult, she knew that it would be a price she’d have to pay – the price of being a hustler’s lady. She now felt as if she were up against the wind, thinking of Tramar every time she passed by a bank. Her entire life had changed so quickly.
