Lauren put her fingers to his mouth, “I know I just brought it up, but do you think we could leave the business talk until at least tomorrow?” She removed her hand and slid it around his slick skin, settling on the back of his neck. “I just want to be us right now, no work.”

Landon leaned down and kissed her under the soft flowing water, tongues dancing. As she felt him stiffen against her hip, she pulled back and arched an eyebrow. His eyes playful yet smoldering, she couldn’t believe he was ready again.

“Just us,” he whispered as he pressed her against the cold tile wall, fingers delving into the still sensitive spot below. Lauren moaned into his shoulder and was glad they hadn’t made reservations anywhere. At this rate we really aren’t going to get out of the house, she thought with an excited giggle.

By the time they’d managed to get dressed and out of the house it had been well past 10 p.m. They’d grabbed a couple slices of pizza at Lauren’s favorite place around the corner and headed to a bar for drinks. While they were there, Landon received a series of texts from a friend of a friend saying he’d be able to put them on the guest list for a nightclub he managed.

“What do you think? Are you up for going out or have we exhausted ourselves too much already,” he asked rubbing her knee under the table.

“I’m up for it if you are. Sleep when you’re dead, right? I’d have to get changed before we go though,” she said tugging at her black Ramones shirt.

Once back to the apartment, Lauren went straight for her little red dress. The tight material hugged and pushed all the right places and two tiny spaghetti straps created the illusion of holding the whole thing up. She pulled her hair back in a slick ponytail and slipped into a pair of heels with ankle straps. Looking at her reflection in the bathroom mirror, she decided against the bright red lipstick. At this rate, I’ll just end up getting it all over him anyway. After one last glance in the mirror, she returned to the bedroom.

“Ugh, it’s so easy for men,” she lamented as Landon turned to face her. He’d put on a dark pair of designer jeans and a black buttoned shirt. A tiny shiver went down her spine as he looked at her. She remembered watching this charming, charismatic, gorgeous man on stage and here he was in her bedroom. Not only that, he looked at her with the same lust and affection she felt for him.

“You look incredible,” he said eyes roving from head to toe.

“Yeah, I scrub up pretty well for a nerdy chick,” she said with a twirl. Much closer in height wearing the heels, she enjoyed not having to stand on her toes to kiss him. As their embrace threatened to boil over for the third time that night, she put her hands firmly on his chest and pushed him away. “I think we should probably go now if we’re gonna go at all.”

Landon closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His eyes twinkled as he placed his hand on the small of her back. “Yeah, you’re right. Come on.” Oh, he knows just what that does to me, she thought to herself.

Lauren was surprised at the amount of traffic still on the roads as the cab whisked them across the bridge into Brooklyn. She wasn’t too concerned. It gave them more time to cuddle in the back.

“I can’t remember the last time I left a club at 1 a.m. let alone arrived at that time,” said Lauren, afraid she had an evening full of hidden yawns.

The cab rolled down the side streets into an industrial and rundown looking neighborhood. Graffiti covered walls, broken windows, abandoned shopping carts. The place looked like one of the last areas she’d want to be late at night. The car turned a corner and Lauren spotted a long line of people wrapped around the corner. It looked like it could’ve been a lineup for a fashion show, each woman seemingly more beautiful than the last. The utterly nondescript building was apparently the place to be.

“You’re kidding, right?” Lauren said as she stepped out of the cab.

“Not what you were expecting, huh?” he said guiding her past the line to the front door. Landon whispered in the doorman’s ear, the bouncer checked a clipboard and nodded, and in they walked.

The warehouse-turned-nightclub was one gigantic room. The DJ stood on a platform on the far end, the speakers thumping house music so loud Lauren could feel it reverberate through her chest. A thin platform encircled the dark room, scantily clad dancers working and teasing the crowd from fifteen feet above. High above the dance floor twirled the largest, pink disco ball Lauren had ever seen. Landon led her to the bar where they did a couple shots, smiling at each other in the flashing lights.

Leaning close to yell in her ear, Landon said, “Let’s dance. Do you want to?” Lauren nodded and grabbed his hand. Leading to the center of the room, Landon pulled her close as the song shifted tempo.

The driving beat seemed to pulse through her body and in no time she was sweaty, entranced in the music. Although she’d had him inside her twice already, the way Landon moved drove her crazy. He was incredibly sexy, his eyes on hers, fingers slipping down her hot neck to cup her breast. His leg pressed between hers, she ground against his thigh, the pleasurable soreness building in intensity. Her fingers slipped into the sweaty hair at the nape of his neck. She loved how uninhibited he was, how everything he did was full of confidence. The right balance of alcohol, sex, and sub-woofers created a world where nothing else existed but the music and their bodies.

Completely oblivious to the world around them, neither Lauren or Landon noticed the young blonde woman in the black dress snapping photos of them from only a few feet away. With one eye still on the couple, the blonde pushed her way to the edge of the crowd to scan through the clearest shots. With a sneer, she chose one. Lauren’s eyes were closed and head thrown back while Landon’s hand pushed dangerously far up her thigh.

“Perfect,” she said, the word disappearing in the loud club. She sent the photo with a message attached.

Sahra, you’ll never guess who I ran into at the club tonight...

  ...

Holy shit, good work Rochelle! This is exactly what Parker’s been looking for!

“What the hell is this supposed to mean?” Lauren said, her voice cracking. She held the photo out to him, her fingers trembling so badly it nearly fluttered to the floor.

Landon took the large print from her hand, his eyebrows furrowing as he examined the front and back. He read the message scrawled on the back aloud.

“‘You two make a great pair.’ This is from the other night and the person who took it couldn’t have been more than a couple feet away from us. There was nothing else in the envelope?”

“No, nothing,” she replied tipping the manila envelope upside down. “There’s no address either, only my name. The doorman said a messenger dropped it off.”

“Do you think it’s your ex? Would he do something like this?”

Lauren shook her head. “I don’t think so. Nick’s not that kind of guy but then again I never thought he was the sort to screw around. Maybe he’s pissed off about us but still, what does he have to gain by sending a photo like that? It’s creepy.” She involuntarily shivered at the thought.

  “But he knows y
ou’re living here now, right?”

“I guess,” she shrugged. “Maybe our old roommate told him but I still don’t think he’d...what’s the point of this? I honestly don’t even know what it’s supposed to mean?” I don’t know how can he be so calm? Someone fucking followed us, knows about us, and is what...threatening us?

He tossed the photo into the garbage can and rubbed her back, his dimples faintly appearing as he smiled. “There really isn’t a whole lot we can do. We don’t know who sent it or why. There’s no point getting worked up—”

“No point, are you kidding? You’re leaving tomorrow and now I have to look over my shoulder all the time because I’ve got a fucking stalker who may or may not be my ex-boyfriend. Oh, and Parker’s disappeared off the face of the planet and I’ve somehow got to figure out a way to find twenty jobs for twenty different people before I start up my own company in the next two months. Nope, nothing to worry about here. Everything’s great.”

“You’re really cute when you’re flustered,” Landon said with a half smile. He wrapped one arm around her waist and pulled her against his hip. “You should lose control more often.”

“I feel like I am whether I want to or not,” she replied resting her head against his chest.
