“I’ve missed this so much,” I panted as Dirk moved his lips down to my neck. He nibbled my skin gently, making me gasp and writhe beneath him.

He pressed me harder into the couch cushions and moved further down. His lips grazed over my tits, and I suddenly hated my clothes. I hated anything that separated me from Dirk. I pushed him off me just long enough to tear my shirt over my head. He followed my lead, pulling his own shirt off and throwing it to the floor.

I ran my fingers down his abs, making him shake and groan. He growled and attacked my lips, sliding his tongue over mine and gripping my waist roughly in his strong hands. I moaned and kissed him back. I wrapped my legs around him and pulled him into me, lifting my hips up to meet him.

He pushed me into the couch, grinding his hips hard against mine. Our kiss was hot and full of repressed need. Even at the resort, we had never let ourselves give in to how much we wanted each other. We had sex, but it didn’t feel anything like this. This was more intense, more animalistic than anything I’d ever imagined.

“Come on,” I said breathlessly. “We need to get out of the living room.”

Dirk nodded and pulled me to my feet. He led me into his bedroom, practically running across the room. As he closed the door softly behind him, I slid my jeans and panties off, tearing my bra from my body and climbing backward onto his bed.

When he turned around, I was spread out on his pillows, staring at his naked chest. My eyes traveled down. His dick was already hard, pressing firmly against his pants.

“Take them off,” I said. I grinned devilishly and slid my body further down the bed.

Dirk watched me closely while he stepped out of his pants. His eyes never left my body, and when he took the first step forward, I felt a wave of desire spread between my legs. My pussy was hot and desperate for him.

“I missed you so much,” he said. He climbed onto the bed and pushed me backward against the pillows, his hands holding mine above my head.

He kissed my neck and my breasts, lingering just long enough to make my nipples harden. He held my hand tightly, not letting me touch him. While he kissed me, breathing his hot breath all over my skin, I writhed and squirmed beneath him. This was torturous. I had to touch. To feel him. I had to feel every inch of him.

“Take me,” I begged. “Take me.”

Dirk inhaled sharply at my words. He finally let go of my hands, and I couldn’t control myself for another second. I raked my nails down his back while he slid one hand between my legs. His expert fingers tickled my clit, making me jump and buck beneath him. I fucked his hand hard, almost bringing myself to orgasm before he was even inside of me.

  “You’re soaked,” he moaned.

  “I want you.”

He growled and flipped me onto my stomach. My stomach and tits pressed into the covers while he placed hungry kisses all over my back. He bit my shoulders and nibbled at the skin on my hips. All the while, his fingers continued to tease my throbbing and aching clit.

“I can’t take it anymore,” I said weakly.

Dirk didn’t need to be told twice. He spread my legs and positioned himself behind me. With me still pressed into the bed, he slid into my pussy, his cock already throbbing with need.

“Oh God,” I moaned and bit down on a pillow. “Oh fuck.”

He filled me completely, sending shockwaves ricocheting all over my body. Every nerve inside of me was on fire. I was moaning and panting before he even began to thrust.

I gasped when Dirk laid flat against my back. The added pressure increased my pleasure a thousand times over. His lips were right by my ear as he began to thrust inside of me. He nibbled my ear lobe and rocked his hips back and forth, making me shake and tremble.

Within seconds, I was so close that I could feel the ecstasy begin to travel through my toes.

“I’m going to come,” I said weakly. “I’m-”

Dirk took me harder. He lifted himself up just enough to bite down on my shoulder. I cried out his name and came so hard that my ass shoved itself backward without my permission. I pushed against him, forcing him deeper inside of me.

The waves of pleasure didn’t stop. Dirk pounded into me harder than ever. He tangled his fingers in my hair and sat up, pulling me roughly along with him.

I was on all fours while he sought his own pleasure. His hands gripped my hips as he grunted behind me. I barely had a chance to come down from my first orgasm before the second began to build. When Dirk’s fingers found their way to my clit again, I came undone.

“Oh fuck!” I cried, trying desperately to remain silent.

He groaned and released, shooting forward and dropping me onto the bed. My arms gave way, and I collapsed against the pillows with Dirk still throbbing inside of me.

When he moved away, he gently rolled me over onto my back. His eyes found mine and a small, satisfied smile played at the corner of his lips. He kissed me gently. First on my lips, then my nose. I giggled and buried my face in his chest, but I soon sought his eyes once again. I couldn’t stop looking at him.

While he stared down at me, I felt my heart swell inside my chest. I’d never loved anyone as much as I loved him.

“You never said it,” he said softly.

  “Said what?”

“I told you I loved you.” He played with a thin strand of my hair, twirling around his fingers and looking anywhere but at my face. “But, you never said it.”

I sighed and rolled over on top of him. I pinned him to the bed and kissed his lips, long and slow. When I pulled back, he was staring at me with a frown on his face. Suddenly, I saw my own fears reflected back at me.

“I love you,” I said. I kissed him again. “I’m so in love with you.”

Dirk grinned and pulled me to him. He kissed me again and soon, our bodies reacted. My legs were still shaking from the multiple orgasms I’d already had, but I didn’t care. I need to feel him again.

He rolled me back over and slid inside of me. He took me slowly this time, barely moving his hips and staying as deep as possible. Our eyes never left each other’s faces. We stared at each other with love and longing. When we both finished, it was together and so intense that my eyes filled with tears.

I buried my face in his chest while he shook above me. We held each other, both dripping with sweat. I never wanted to let go of him.

That night lasted for hours. Neither of us wanted to sleep. Soon, we would have to crawl out of bed and be there for Josie. We would have to pack up my apartment and move to California. But for now, for this one night, we could just disappear into each other and forget about the world.

  Chapter Thirty-Nine

  Dirk

It was a miracle we got everything done in time. Marissa and I couldn’t keep our hands off each other that night. It wasn’t until Josie woke up the following morning that we finally wrenched ourselves apart and sprang into action.

Luckily, most of the arrangements were made the night before. I called the movers, so they would know to go by Marissa’s apartment, as well. We had to order another truck, but I didn’t care.

Marissa was moving to California with us. That was all I could think about.

“It’s a good thing John and Sammy are still in town,” Marissa said when we stepped inside her apartment. “Otherwise, I’m not sure we’d get this place packed up in time.”

“We’ll manage,” I said with confidence.

Josie ran into the living room and flopped onto the couch. Marissa set her up with a movie while we went back outside to get all the boxes and bubble wrap we’d bought earlier that morning. As I watched Marissa tie her hair back in a ponytail, I couldn’t help but grin.

“What?” she asked when she saw me watching her. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing,” I said. “I just can’t believe this is really happening.”

“Well,” she said. She stepped closer to me. “Believe it.”

With flattened boxes in our hands, we kissed in the middle of the hallway. M
arissa’s lips slid over mine softly, and I moaned, dropping the boxes and grabbing her around the waist. She giggled and ran her fingers through my hair, holding me closer to her.

The kiss was enough to make my head spin wildly. I almost forgot that Josie was waiting for us just inside. It wasn’t until a sharp cough echoed through the hallway that I finally pulled away from Marissa.

“Hey,” I said when my eyes fell on John, Sammy, and Noah. “Glad you guys could make it.”

“Of course,” Sammy shrugged. “Sorry to interrupt.”

“You’re not,” Marissa said. “You’re just in time.”

We all carried the disassembled boxes inside. Noah ran over to join Josie on the couch. Sammy and John had brought the kids ice cream to keep them distracted while we worked. It was going to be a long day, but with everyone’s help, I hoped we’d be able to finish in time.

“Are you sure it wouldn’t be better to push the move back a couple days?” John asked as he piled books into a box at his feet.

“I can’t,” I said. “The board finally approved the move, and I can’t leave them hanging for too long. I have to get out there and get everything settled. Fast.”

“I get it,” he said with a nod. “But, Marissa could just meet you out there when-”

“No,” she interrupted firmly. “We’re going together. That’s the plan.”

I smiled at her. Overnight, everything between us had changed. We were no longer walking on eggshells. We weren’t hiding our feelings or tiptoeing past our desires. We were bold and in love. Nothing was going to keep us apart. Not the move to California. Not Stanley and Eloise. Nothing.

“I’m glad you two finally figured it out,” Sammy said simply.

  “Figured what out?” Marissa asked.

  “That you’re soul mates.”

Sammy’s words were so simple, so sure, that they took me by surprise. The second they left his mouth though, I knew they were true. Marissa was my soul mate. She was everything I never knew I needed. I had just stopped living the day Amelia. I closed myself off and gave up. It wasn’t right, but it was how I coped.

  Until I met Marissa.

“She’s pretty amazing,” I said. Marissa just rolled her eyes and turned back to packing. I grabbed her waist and spun her around to face me. “More than amazing.”

I kissed her in the middle of her living room with John and Sammy standing right beside us. Josie and Noah both made “eww!” sounds, but we didn’t care. We pulled away, both laughing and red in the face. At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to be alone with her.

Her eyes were full of desire, and I knew she was thinking the same thing. Remembering the night before and how completely we had melded together. How perfectly our bodies fit. My skin ignited as she stared at me with a hunger I would recognize anywhere.

John cleared his throat, making Marissa and I tear our eyes away from each other. He was right. Now wasn’t the time. The kids were in the room, and we still had a lot of packing to do. Still, as the day progressed, I found myself staring at Marissa’s body more often than anything else.

“You’re terrible,” she whispered to me when I grazed her ass with my fingertips.

“It’s your fault,” I said softly. “You do something to me. I can’t help it.”

“Suck it up, buttercup,” she teased. “We have work to do.”

“I know,” I sighed and tossed a throw pillow into an open box at my feet.

At first glance, Marissa’s apartment didn’t appear very large. Just a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. I didn’t imagine she could possibly have so much stuff, but by lunchtime, we weren’t even halfway finished.

“We need a break,” Sammy said firmly. “And food.”

  “Agreed,” I nodded.

  “Chinese?” John asked.

Marissa nodded enthusiastically and flopped back on her couch. Josie and Noah were sitting on the floor playing with a puzzle. They’d been distracted all day, which was a huge help.

“Kiddos,” Sammy said. “Want to come?”

  “Sure!”

Josie and Noah jumped up to follow John and Sammy outside. I reached in my wallet to grab some cash, but John just waved my hand away.

“We got it,” he said simply. “Be back in a few.”

Sammy winked at Marissa on their way outside. I laughed and rolled my eyes, falling backward on the couch beside her.

Marissa moved closer to me as I put my arm around her shoulders. She buried her face in my chest and breathed deeply, just letting the stress of the day melt away. I held her close, not wanting to say or do anything that might ruin the moment. I still felt like I was living in a dream. Part of me expected Marissa to suddenly change her mind about the move, to say it was all too much too fast.

“Do you think Josie’s really okay with this?” she asked suddenly.

  “What do you mean?”

Marissa sighed and sat up. She folded her legs under her and turned to face me. She looked sad as she stared down at her hands, twirling her thumbs together nervously.

“Hey,” I said softly. I put my index finger under her chin and lifted her head slightly. She blinked and sighed again. “What’s going on?”

“I’m just worried,” she said. “Josie’s been through so much, you know? She lost her mom when she was too little to even remember her. It’s awful and heartbreaking. Then, all the drama we’ve put her through over the past few weeks. She had to watch Eloise attack me that way. It’s not fair to her. She doesn’t deserve that.”

“You’re right,” I said. “She doesn’t. But, what does that have to do with the move?”

“I’m scared she’ll resent me.” Marissa’s eyes met mine, and she shook her head. “I’m scared that, after a while, she’ll realize she just wants time alone with you. Her dad.”

I laughed and grabbed Marissa’s hands. She was amazing. There wasn’t anyone I could ever imagine trusting with my daughter more than her.

“You’re ridiculous,” I said firmly. “Marissa, Josie loves you. You know that.”

“I do,” she said with a nod. “I do know that, but what if it’s not enough? What if, in time, she feels like I’m stealing your attention away from her?”

“She won’t.” My confidence was strong, but not strong enough to reassure Marissa. She just sighed and leaned back against the couch cushions.

“You can’t be sure of that,” Marissa said.

  “I can,” I said. “And, I am.”

She shook her head and looked away. She was getting frustrated. The last thing I wanted was for her to change to mind, to back out of the move. We were finally moving in the right direction. We were finally ready to be together. Really be together. I didn’t want anything, not her insecurities or fears, to stand in our way.

“Listen,” I said. I stroked her hands gently with my fingers. “I love you.”

Marissa smiled, “I love you, too.”

  “And, Josie loves you.”

  She nodded.

“Nothing is going to change that,” I told her. “It’s going to be hard. We’ll have to transition into a family, and that will take some time, but I’m not worried. Not at all.”

“I wish I shared your confidence,” Marissa said with a weak laugh.

“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. “Is this really just about Josie, or are you having second thoughts?”

She just laughed and shook her head. She sat up quickly and leaned forward, pressing her lips lightly against mine. My heart jumped in my chest, but the kiss didn’t last long.

“Are you kidding?” Marissa asked. “I’ve never been more excited about anything in my life.”

  “Really?”

“Really,” Marissa nodded. “This move, I can’t tell you how much it means to me. I’ve never liked living in New York. I used to think it was necessary, you know? Like I could only be successful here. But now, I know that’s not true. There’s so much else out there. S
o much of the world that I haven’t seen. I can’t wait to leave this place and have a new adventure — especially with you and Josie.”

I grabbed her roughly and yanked her forward. My lips fell hard on hers, and she gasped in surprise, but soon, her gasp turned into a moan of pleasure. She kicked one leg over my lap, so she was straddling me. Her hips slowly slid back and forth, rubbing her body against my already hard dick.

“You’re killing me,” I groaned against her mouth. “You know they’ll be back soon.”

“Then, we better make it quick.” Her voice was low and rough, full of desire.

I growled and lifted her off the couch. She wrapped her legs around me as I led her into the bedroom. Kicking the door closed behind me, I threw her on the bed and ripped her clothes from her body.

She was naked and breathing heavily while I stripped naked and climbed on top of her. Her eyes searched mine and I growled again. This woman could turn me on without even trying. Just that look in her eyes was enough to make me come completely undone.

  “Hurry,” she whispered.

I kissed her hard while I slid inside of her. Our bodies rocked together quickly, thrusting into each other harder and harder as the seconds ticked by. We knew we didn’t have much time, but feeling her move against me felt so good that it didn’t matter.

We both finished fast and were left panting and sweaty. We held each other for a few seconds, placing gentle kisses along each other’s skin. When we could finally move, we jumped out of bed and threw our clothes on just in time.

As we stepped back into the living room, the front door opened. John and Sammy walked inside with Josie and Noah at their heels. Marissa and I exchanged a sly grin before we all sat down to each lunch.

  Epilogue

  Marissa

My thick brown hair was set in loose curls down my back. I sprayed it with another coat of hairspray before running my fingers through it once more. Everything had to be perfect today. Finally, after a year, Dirk and I were going to be husband and wife. I wanted to look beautiful and poised. I wanted this to be a day Dirk would never forget.

As I took a step back from the mirror, my eyes traveled down my own body. I frowned and turned to the side. My white dress was simple, but elegant. It ballooned out over my eight-month pregnant belly, leaving no doubt that I was with child. I smiled and ran my hand over my stomach, stroking my unborn baby through my skin. He kicked out at my touch. I laughed and shook my head. Was this really happening?
