Survive (Day 5) Page 8

  “Keep walking.” She wavered.

“June, are you okay?” He set his rifle butt down as if using it as a walking stick, and then let the weapon fall. It hit the pavement at the same moment as June.

“June!” he raced to her, and scooped her frail form into his arms as he sat on his knees on the pavement. He set his palm over her blazing forehead. “June!”

Porter was at his side, sniffing and whimpering.

“Junie-babe, stay with me. Stay with me, kid.” He tucked her Ruger into his pants, shouldered his rifle, and then lifted her dead weight into his arms. “We’re going to be okay. Just stay with me.”

He began to run with her in his arms, yelling, “Help,” as he went.

A hopeless journey with an uncertain end.

  Author’s Note

This series rocketing to the finale! I don’t want to give anything away, but I think it’s a safe bet that the brothers are headed to the same place. But what the heck’s going to happen when they get there? It won’t be long before you find out.

I hope the Survive series has been edge of your seat entertainment for you thus far. I wanted each section to be packed with action, and for readers to be left trying to catch their breath after each one. I also get a bit of devilish glee out of leaving each of them at such a cliffhanger!

Is June dead? How can Red possibly hope to carry her much farther? There’s no easy answers to this journey, and there’s absolutely no guarantees about who will or won’t make it to the end.

My plan is to work on editing the second book in the Just For Laughs series (AKA Dave) and release it over the next couple of weeks, and then get right back into the Survive series to carry it through to completion. There’re only a couple days left, and they promise to be the most intense of the entire series.

After Survive is finished, I’ll be working on the third book in the Among the Masses series, followed by a brand new book called ‘Shudder Inn’ that’s a spiritual (perhaps more than just ‘spiritual’) successor to the 314 trilogy. I don’t want to give too much away about it, but I will say that it exists in the same universe as those books. That’s all I’m going to say!

2017 promises to be absolutely FILLED with new A.R. Wise stories. I hope you’re ready for them!
