by Jeff Erno
The door behind him opened, and Steve turned to see Eric, still in his sleep clothes, bedhead and all. He sat down next to Steve and took hold of his hand. “Thank you, honey,” he whispered.
“Happy anniversary.”
“Happy anniversary,” Eric echoed. Steve looked down to see Eric was already wearing the bracelet. He reached into the pocket of his robe and removed another, smaller velvet box. “I probably should wait until tonight to do this. I’ve made reservations for us, but I can’t wait that many hours.”
Steve raised his hand to his mouth, his eyes flooding with tears.
“I was right all those months ago when I predicted the next time I fell in love it would be with you. Every day I love you more and more.”
“Oh Eric.”
“And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Baby, will you marry me?” He popped open the box to reveal a beautiful, sparkling diamond. Steve gasped.
“Yes!”
Steve held out his hand and Eric slipped the ring on his finger. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
As their mouths came together and they kissed one more time, exactly one year later and in the precise location where they’d originally met, the dogs began to bark their approval. Steve swooned as the man he loved held him close.
And they lived happily ever after.
