“Crap.” He picked his pants up and pulled them on. “I’m sure it’s fine.”
She hoped so. She couldn’t fully blame him; after all, she was lost in the heat of the moment too. When she got back to her room for the night, she’d check the app on her phone that told her when she was ovulating.
“I had a good evening, really.” But right now she wanted to get out of there. She was never good with the after-sex talk. “I’m tired, so I think I’m gonna go. Thanks for dinner.”
She darted toward the front of the house, but Nathan stopped her. “Don’t you dare leave without a kiss.”
She spun around and grinned.
“Isn’t that what you always tell me? And I think I deserve a good one too.” His arms circled around her waist and his lips met hers. It was soft and sensual, but the perfect good night kiss.
She pulled away. “Have a good night, Nathan.”
“Sweet dreams.”
She closed the door and hurried toward her car. Taking a deep breath, she opened her phone app that tracked her menstruation. No need to wait until she was back at the house, she needed to know now.
Oh, fuck!
Chapter 7
Nathan stared at himself in the mirror. He had to admit that the tux looked pretty good on him, even though he wasn’t crazy about the purple tie. But Lauren wanted the men in black with purple. He supposed he should be thankful he didn’t have to wear a purple jacket or pants.
“Still fits.” He turned toward Tucker.
Tucker wore a vest that matched Nathan’s tie. “Good. I just wanted to make sure. I want this wedding to go perfect for Lauren.”
“It’s not gonna go perfect. You should know that. Something will go wrong.”
Tucker pointed at him. “Don’t you dare jinx it.”
Braden joined them, wearing his suit as well. “Chill, Tucker. You’re getting as bad as your fiancée. This morning I heard her arguing with Angie about something.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow. “They okay?”
Tucker sighed. “Fine. Lauren’s getting a little high-strung, that’s all. The two quickly made up, and when I left to come here, they were sharing coffee and cookies.”
Angie hadn’t really talked to Nathan the last few days. He’d run into her a couple of times, but she’d been short with him. Was she one of those women who once she got what she wanted, that was it? If so, thankfully they hadn’t gotten too involved, but he wasn’t ready to just let her go. Even if the wedding was only two days away now. If he wanted her to know how he felt, he was going to have to do it quick before she was gone and back to her life.
“I’m gonna change.” He started toward the dressing room.
“Dude.” Braden walked up beside him. “You got a lesson this afternoon, right?”
Crap. He did. “Yeah.”
“How is it going?”
They were getting much better than they were when they began. “Good. Teaching adults isn’t as bad as I thought it might be.”
“Cool. I have a friend who wants to learn, her child too.”
Nathan grinned and knew just who he was talking about. “Maybe you should think about teaching them?”
“Me? No. She’d want someone with more experience.”
He patted his brother’s shoulder. “You never know what someone wants until you try and find out. All right, I need to change.” He went into the dressing room.
Ten minutes later, he left the tux rental place with a white bag draped over his arm as he walked toward his truck. Hopefully, after his lessons, he could find a way to meet up with Angie and talk to her a bit.

Angie lifted the beer to her lips and chugged half down. Part of her wondered if she should be drinking this since there was a possibility that she was… She was being silly. The chances of her getting pregnant due to one quickie were incredibly tiny.
She’d been avoiding him the last few days, but tonight she wouldn’t be able to. Lauren had a joint bachelor and bachelorette party planned at Long Necks. Apparently, the two lovebirds didn’t want to do the event separate since there was only one bar in town. And Lauren wanted it tonight so they could all rest the night before the wedding.
Her best friend had never been such a control freak until this wedding. Angie had to admit her friend was beginning to get on her nerves. Today, she’d spent hours finishing up the table centerpieces. The first batch they’d made, Lauren ended up hating, so they had to take them apart and redo them a different way.
Angie gulped the rest of her beer. She was going to get drunk tonight, if she’d let herself. Today just confirmed if she ever got married, she’d hire someone to do this crap. Or even better, elope. No planning at all in that.
“You finished that quick.” Lauren handed her another beer.
“Thanks.”
“I’m sorry for being a bitch. I was bad today.” She leaned close. “I’m so ready for this to be over.”
“You and me both.” Though she wasn’t ready for her flight that was only days away.
“At least we’re in for a night of fun. You’ve been kinda quiet about Nathan.”
I made a big oopsie. “I know. I like him a lot, but I’m just trying to figure my life out at the moment.”
“I’m sure you could stay at the house you are in now, for the time being. I’d love if you moved here.”
Angie smiled. The idea sounded good to her too. The more time she spent there, the less she wanted to go back to Georgia. As much as she’d like to just not return, she had to for a short while. Even if her family was screwed up, she still wanted to sit down with them and let them know she was leaving.
“Ooo, the guys are here.” Lauren hopped up from her chair and flung herself into her fiancé’s arms.
Nathan walked around the embracing couple with his gaze glued to Angie’s. Her breath caught as he walked toward her in his cowboy hat, button-down white shirt, and jeans. She licked her lips, ready for another taste of him.
“Hey,” she said when he stood next to her.
He bent forward and kissed her cheek. “I’m going to get a drink. Want anything?”
She shook her head and lifted her full beer.
“I brought in more help for the night.” Courtney, the bartender, approached the growing group. “We should be able to keep up with the fun.”
Lauren rubbed Courtney’s arm. “I wish you’d join us.”
“I can stick around for a few, but I need to get home to Anna. She wasn’t feeling well.”
“Oh no.” Lauren frowned. “Don’t let us hold you up. Go do what you need to so you can get home to her.”
“Thanks. Hopefully, she’ll be better tomorrow.” Courtney went back to the bar just as Nathan grabbed the chair next to Angie and sat.
“Have you been avoiding me?” he asked.
Yes. “No. Just busy with all this wedding stuff.”
He cocked an eyebrow. “You sure? Do you regret the other night?”
Hell no! It had been one of her best nights ever. “Of course not.”
He cleared his throat. “Do we have anything to worry about?”
Only the fact she was ovulating, but she wasn’t going to tell him that. “I think we’re in the clear.”
“Good.” He stood and took her hand. “Let’s dance.”
He tugged her to her feet and led her toward the dance floor. He seemed to be more at ease with her than when they’d first met. The looks he’d given her then were as though she was the spawn of Satan. But now he stared at her like there was no one else in the room.
She laced her hands around his neck and molded herself to him.
“Sexy lady, it’s a fast song.”
She ground herself into him. “We can still be close.”
He groaned. “Doing that is going to make us leave early and have a party all of our own.”
She liked the way that sounded. She turned to see where her friend was. Lauren and Tucker were so involved in each other, they’d
never notice if they disappeared. Before she could tell Nathan she wanted to leave, he released her, taking her hand and swirling her around.
“Nate,” she shrieked when she came back to facing him.
“I just wanted to see that pretty skirt of yours twirl around.”
She chuckled and he spun her again. His arms wrapped around her waist and he snuggled her into his embrace.
“Have I told you how much I like your smile?”
She poked his chin. “You don’t have to compliment me. You’ve got a good shot at getting me to bed.”
He traced a circle on her lower spine. “I’m not worried about sleeping with you, Angie. I’m after your heart.”
Her mouth opened. This man was after her heart, and she was beginning to wonder if she should give it to him. His life seemed like the one she’d always dreamed of. “We’ll have to see about that, cowboy.”
He kissed her cheek. “All right, all this dancing has given me a major hard-on. I need to sit a bit.”
Nathan led her toward the table. Melissa sat there, texting someone on her phone. Angie grabbed her beer and quenched her thirst.
“You two gonna be next with this marriage thing?” Melissa set her phone down.
“Mel.” Nathan gave her a stern look.
“What? I’m just asking.” She tossed her hair behind her shoulders. “You are always in my life, don’t like me in yours?”
Angie stood. “If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna use the restroom.”
* * * *
“What’s your problem?” Nathan asked his sister as soon as Angie was out of sight.
Melissa shrugged. “I’m not sure I like her. I’m just being cautious after what happened before.”
He swirled the liquid around inside the bottle. “Thank you. But Angie isn’t Carrie. I don’t think she has a hidden husband back in Georgia.”
“You never know.”
He sighed. “Lauren would tell me.”
“What if—”
“Enough, Mel. I love you for caring so much, but lighten up. Give Angie a shot.”
She twirled a lock of hair. “I’ll try, but why get serious when she’s leaving?”
Part of him hoped she wouldn’t, but even if she did, he was prepared to make it work, somehow. “That’s for me to deal with. Not you.”
“I just don’t want to see you hurt again.”
“That’s for my heart to worry about.”
She groaned. “Fine. I’ll be nicer.”
Angie’s beauty caught his attention, and every single man’s, as she crossed the bar back toward him. She wore a long brown skirt and a white tank top. A grin spread across her face when she saw him watching her.
His sister pushed her chair back and wandered off. Nathan wished she’d stick around and get to know Angie, but maybe it was best his hormonal sister went elsewhere. The wedding planning was getting to her as well. There probably wasn’t anyone there who wasn’t ready for it to be over.
“Are you ready to dance some more?” Angie asked. “Or I could kick your ass in pool again.”
“I’d rather go back to our earlier discussion and sneak out of here. What do you say?” He pulled her into his lap and brushed her cheek. “You’ll be with Lauren all day tomorrow, and then the wedding is the next day.” And then you might be leaving. “Let’s sneak off for some time with just us.”
She licked her lips, her brown eyes gazing at him. “Just as long as we stop by the drugstore first for condoms.”
“Already bought a box.”
* * * *
Nathan ran his fingers down Angie’s sides as he stared into her eyes. There they were again, in his home, with one thing on their minds—each other. Tonight had to count. It had to show her he wanted more from her than just a fuck.
“You’re beautiful.” He took in her beauty. Her long, wavy dark hair, her big, brown eyes. She had a cute little freckle above her lip.
“Shut up and kiss me. For once, I don’t want to talk. I want to play.”
“Gladly.” He kissed her as his fingers tightened on her sides.
She moaned as his tongue entered her mouth. He walked her backward until the back of her legs met his bed. Last time, he’d taken her rough against the wall. Tonight, it would be soft in his bed, at least that was the plan. Who knew what would really happen?
He cupped her full breasts, liking the way they filled his hands. He pulled her shirt up and over her head. Dipping down, he licked between her breasts as she unclasped her bra. Once he discarded it, he sucked a hard nipple and pinched the other.
She gasped and pushed her chest higher to him. He eased her onto the bed, kissing her belly and tugging her skirt down. He tossed the material across his room then stared up at her from his knees. What a fucking sight. Her legs spread and all she had on was a light pink pair of panties. Looping his fingers in the waistband, he pulled them down.
He yanked her to the edge of the bed, placed her legs on either side of his head, then found her wet pussy. Licking the folds, he spread her lower lips apart. She tasted sweet with a mix of salt. Just as good as he thought she would.
As his tongue pushed into her entrance, she wiggled and murmured something. Hopefully, he was torturing her with pleasure. Replacing his tongue with his finger, he circled her clit. She reached down, her fingers tangling in his hair. A woman who took charge—he liked it.
“Oh God.” Her grip tightened in his hair.
He picked up the pace at which he was fingering her, and a moment later she cried out. He kissed her inner thighs before climbing on top of her. “I wish I could’ve seen your face. Maybe I should put a mirror above my bed.”
She giggled. “You perv.”
“What? I can’t help it that I’m a visual person.”
She rubbed his erection through his jeans. “It’s your turn for a little fun.”
And he couldn’t wait. His cock throbbed to be touched. She pushed up on her elbows and worked his buttons. He helped her along and unfastened his belt. He was ready to be naked, with her underneath, clinging to him.
She pushed his pants and boxers down with her feet and he kicked them off. She wrapped a hand around his shaft and stroked his length. He took a deep breath, enjoying the feel of her warm hand. Some women weren’t good at hand-jobs. They just didn’t get how to grip a man, but Angie wasn’t having any problem. If she kept it up, he’d be done before they got started.
He pushed her hand away. “I’m not gonna last.”
Nathan grabbed the box of condoms from his dresser and tore open a package. He slid it on and went back to her. She still lay at the edge of the bed. He opened her legs and laid them flat against his chest. With this view, he’d get to see her breasts jiggle and watch her.
He positioned himself at her slick entrance. She pushed into him, ready. He thrust in and gripped her ankles.
“Nathan!” she shrieked.
Angie gripped the edge of the bed as he pumped hard and fast. As fucking hot as this position was, he forgot one thing. He couldn’t kiss her like this. And damn, did he want to.
Her tits bounced as she held the comforter between her fingers. She sucked her bottom lip in and closed her eyes. The way her pussy tightened around his dick, he could tell she was almost there. He rubbed her clit, and that was all it took. She fell over the edge. Her eyes were still closed, her mouth opened, and she cried out. It was one of the sexiest things he’d ever seen.
His own release tore through him. Oh God, his balls tightened as a spurt of liquid filled the condom. Sex with Angie was better than anything he’d experienced. Hopefully he’d get the chance to do this again.
He pulled out of her then lay on the bed next to her. Brushing the hair from her face, he asked, “Is there any way I can convince you to stay here after the wedding?”
She nodded, and he wasn’t sure if it was because they’d just had sex, or if she was actually considering it.
Chapter 8
“I can’t believe you’re
getting married tomorrow.” Angie pulled her hair up in a ponytail then tossed the brush onto her dresser.
Lauren grabbed a handful of popcorn. “Me either. I love that we’re having a girls’ night tonight though.”
Maggie, Melissa, Lauren, and Angie were all spending the night together. Lauren didn’t want to see Tucker until she walked down the aisle. It was sweet that she was following tradition.
“You and my cousin slipped out early last night.” Maggie’s gaze was on Angie.
They sure had, and it had been a fantastic night.
“And you didn’t return until sometime in the middle of the night.”
Two could play at this game. “Yeah, and I heard you up, laughing with Brock. I plugged my ears, hoping you two weren’t getting it on.”
Maggie laughed. “We’re married.”
Melissa covered her ears. “I don’t want to hear this from any of you. It’s not cool.”
Lauren smiled and rubbed her future sister-in-law’s shoulder. “Sorry.”
“I debated not coming at all.” Melissa sunk back on the bed pillows.
“I’m glad you’re here.” Lauren plopped down next to her.
“Me too,” Angie added, then joined them on the bed. “Should we watch a movie?”
Angie felt awkward around Nathan’s sister. She got the feeling Melissa was always watching her. Things would be so much better if they’d tell her what happened to him. What the woman did to make his sister so protective and for Nathan to keep himself so closed up. Most people could talk about an ex, but it was like some big secret for only Nathan to tell. Hopefully, he’d fill her in soon. After their talk last night, it seemed like he wanted her to stick around.
Aside from Melissa, the Carvers made her feel welcome, and she could see herself with them.
“Are you nervous at all about tomorrow?” Angie twisted the top off the coke. Lauren wasn’t allowing any alcohol tonight. She wanted everyone at their best tomorrow.
Her friend shrugged. “A little. I kinda wish we ran off and married the way Maggie and Brock did.”
Maggie twirled her ponytail. “Best decision we ever made. I couldn’t handle the stress you’re going through.”
