ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
SARAH THANKS: Germany/BPB runs on Fun Pod. Bro-tastic Colleen(ie bear) for always being patient with her freshman Ed. Meagan for musicals “busting out all over” on the daily. Matt for his melodic Jamaican Patois. Daniel for the jajajas. Marykate for fielding questions despite disagreements on cuisine. Joey G for the bear hugs. Prod for solving multiple computer issues while jamming on the ukulele and sharing stories. Ashley, Nathaniel, and Joe for the inspiration and comedy, the best combination an employee could ask for. Everybody else at Let’s Go; you’re all incredible. My researchers for putting their best foot forward for this book. My friends who dealt with the antics and rain checks. Big sis’ Becca, who’s a trooper and a role model, and liltle sis’ Nina, the light of my life. My parents for going the extra mile for me. And for feeding me, which is a full-time job.
TERESA THANKS: Veggie Planet pizzas and Petsi Pies coffee, Liza Flum’s kitchen and bootleg TV and the rickety machines at the Central Square Y. I thank Joe Gaspard and my pod-mates for having my back, and my parents, bad music, and David Foster Wallace for getting me through. My uncle’s 80s comic books and my grandpa’s Chicago sundaes helped too.
MEAGAN THANKS: Matt for his unwavering dedication and fresh-to-deathness, even when Rocky ate my life; you’re the best RM an Ed could ask for. Our RWs for their tireless work and adventurous spirits. DBarbs for MEdits and chop-busting. Marykate for calming my crazy. Sara and DChoi, who kept me rollin’ on the RIVER. Joe for his marketing prowess, but mostly his smiles. Nathaniel for flawless editorial and ticket management. Ashley for teaching Meags how to make moves in the roughest times. I’m not really tryna forget Colleenie Bear and Sarah for making Fun Pod the best. Joey G. for hugs and Glee. Thanks to Betty White, Leslie Uggams, Cher, Meryl, Marge, and all the other deeves. HRST 2010 for Tater Tots and fishnet therapy. Matt and Chris for being so sweet when Maj had to edit. Here’s to Billy Shakes, Ginny Woolf, and Jude Law. Thank you to Mrs. O’Brien and Nicole. Finally, thank you, mom, for your constant support.
BRONWEN THANKS: Ursula Brangwen. Lamont and Widener. Conor. The apartment is clean, and I miss you. Tarek and HubSummer, for getting me out of the office. Chris, for your commitment to Tanjore Tuesdays, the boat ikon, orange highlighter, and shots with silly names. You’ll get your cannoli when you get it. Our RWs, who transported me to sunny beaches and moonlit piazze on rainy Cambridge days. Too many times I wanted to run off to the North End after reading your restaurant write-ups. Rossi and the Masthead team, for all their assists in the P1 and prod process. Mama MK. Hope this one’s a winner. Sleep now? Most of all, my mom and dad. I am so lucky to have such wonderful parents. My week at home traversing California’s golden hills with you guys was one of the best of the summer, closely rivaled by the week you came to Boston. To future travel together!
JONATHAN THANKS: In no particular order: Anna Boch, Marykate Jasper, the whole Let’s Go office, Grace Sun, Michal Labik, Jocey Karlan, Mark Warren, Christa Hartsock, Elyssa Spitzer, my family, all the food establishments in Harvard Square, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Kevin & Bean radio show, Winthrop E-21, Winthrop G-42, Antoine Dodson, and coffee.
ANNA THANKS: In a very particular order: all the kick-ass RW’s, Jonathan Rossi, Marykate Jasper, the Snuggie, Caturday, Iya Megre, honey-stung fried chicken, the Winthrop-Eliot Dramatic Society, Marcel Moran, friends-list, Lucy, Waffle, and Moustafa the smoothie guy in the T-stop.
JOE THANKS: the Let’s Go office team and his RWs for their hard work. Special thanks go out to the Starbucks staff for keeping me well caffeinated, to Bolt Bus for taking me back to Dix Hills, to my brother and sisters for always being down to party, and to my mother for her continued support. The ladies of Harem Pod never failed to make me laugh, even when I was pulling my hair out. Lady Gaga should also be thanked for her part in keeping me happy; we could definitely have a bad romance.
CHRIS THANKS: Bronwen, for being the hardest-working person at LGHQ and an awesome person at the same time. Marykate, for remarkable patience in the face of an avalanche of questions. My RWs, for each bringing their own style and personality to this book, for being great at their jobs, and for a whole load of amity. DChoi and all of Prod land, for coming to the rescue countless times. Let’s Go Italy 1982, for being totally baller. Gazetta Football Italia, for teaching me everything I know about this great country. Any product preceded by the letter G, for making everything so much easier. Kirkland House, for being so damn fine. Catan, for the settlers. Tanjore, for feeding me. No thanks to the Nepalese flag, the Social Security Administration, or any and all Florentine purse-snatchers. Finally, the most special thanks to Area 51, for three years of happiness; my family, for 22 years of the same; and PJ, for everything.

ABOUT LET’S GO
THE STUDENT TRAVEL GUIDE
Let’s Go publishes the world’s favorite student travel guides, written entirely by Harvard students. Armed with pens, notebooks, and a few changes of clothes stuffed into their backpacks, our student researchers go across continents, through time zones, and above expectations to seek out invaluable travel experiences for our readers. Because we are a completely student-run company, we have a unique perspective on how students travel, where they want to go, and what they’re looking to do when they get there. If your dream is to grab a machete and forge through the jungles of Costa Rica, we can take you there. If you’d rather bask in the Riviera sun at a beachside cafe, we’ll set you a table. In short, we write for readers who know that there’s more to travel than tour buses. To keep up, visit our website, www.letsgo.com, where you can sign up to blog, post photos from your trips, and connect with the Let’s Go community.
TRAVELING BEYOND TOURISM
We’re on a mission to provide our readers with sharp, fresh coverage packed with socially responsible opportunities to go beyond tourism. Each guide’s Beyond Tourism chapter shares ideas about responsible travel, study abroad, and how to give back to the places you visit while on the road. To help you gain a deeper connection with the places you travel, our fearless researchers scour the globe to give you the heads-up on both world-renowned and off-the-beaten-track opportunities. We’ve also opened our pages to respected writers and scholars to hear their takes on the countries and regions we cover, and asked travelers who have worked, studied, or volunteered abroad to contribute first-person accounts of their experiences.
FIFTY-ONE YEARS OF WISDOM
Let’s Go has been on the road for 51 years and counting. We’ve grown a lot since publishing our first 20-page pamphlet to Europe in 1960, but five decades and 60 titles later, our witty, candid guides are still researched and written entirely by students on shoestring budgets who know that train strikes, stolen luggage, food poisoning, and marriage proposals are all part of a day’s work. Meanwhile, we’re still bringing readers fresh new features, such as a student-life section with advice on how and where to meet students from around the world; a revamped, user-friendly layout for our listings; and greater emphasis on the experiences that make travel abroad a rite of passage for readers of all ages. And, of course, this year’s 16 titles—including five brand-new guides—are still brimming with editorial honesty, a commitment to students, and our irreverent style.
THE LET’S GO COMMUNITY
More than just a travel guide company, Let’s Go is a community that reaches from our headquarters in Cambridge, MA, all across the globe. Our small staff of dedicated student editors, writers, and tech nerds comes together because of our shared passion for travel and our desire to help other travelers get the most out of their experience. We love it when our readers become part of the Let’s Go community as well—when you travel, drop us a postcard (67 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138, USA), send us an email ([email protected]), or sign up on our website (www.letsgo.com) to tell us about your adventures and discoveries.
