LIVING THE DREAM
The Story of Two Brothers Journey in the Exotic East – With 102 Colour Photos
Part One – Khaosan Road, Thailand
UK USA
The author Glen Johnson decides to give into his midlife crisis (he's only forty-one – it hit early) and he gives away all his worldly possessions and embarks on a journey of a lifetime – to see as much of the world as humanly possible, before he's buried six feet under it.
With no fixed address, and all his material property fitting snugly, and heavily, upon his back (in a very impressive backpack) Glen leaves his country of England behind to follow his dreams. Living on royalties from his books, and having just signed an eight book deal with a large American publisher, he heads to the sprawling city of Bangkok, and the infamous Khasoan Road – a place he is utterly unfamiliar with and doesn't speak a single word of the language. All the while, he has over a million words to write to fulfill his contracts, and he has other deadlines to meet, while trying not to die in a tuk tuk, or choke on a ping-pong.
Part One follows him as he unclutters his life, while physically and mentally preparing to leave behind his family and friends, and everything he has ever known to travel and eat his way across Asia. It also covers the first two weeks of his journey following his antics on the infamous ‘Backpackers Ghetto’ Khasoan Road, and how he deals with the change of culture and scenery.
Luckily, there is a silver lining, he has convinced (with promises of untold riches, exotic delicacies, scantly clad females on deserted beaches, and the fact he's paying for everything) his older brother Gary to join him on the journey – so at least he has someone to carry all his stuff, and a supply of warm protein, just in case of an emergency. Gary offers his own form of ‘tactful’ insights as they awkwardly learn the lessons of trying to settle into a new routine in a foreign country.
Glen has previously visited twenty-nine different countries, and lived in Mexico City, Mexico for far too long for a pale skinned European. However, he soon realizes that they are completely and utterly unprepared for what they are about to face.
Glen Johnson's unique sense of humor (and the fact he’s a weirdo magnet) and unusual view of the world makes Living the Dream – Part One: Khasoan Road, Thailand unlike any other travel book you have ever read. Oh, and there might even be some useful tips about the country and culture you will be able to use if you are thinking of traveling to the same locations.

SOI DOG
The Story Behind Asia’s Largest Animal Welfare Shelter – With 108 Colour Photos
UK USA
PLEASE BE AWARE: By purchasing this book you are helping! All the royalties from the sale of this ebook and paperback go directly to helping the animals at the Soi Dog Foundation. You ARE making a difference!
The Soi Dog Foundation is the largest animal welfare charity in Asia dealing with stray dogs and cats, located in the north of the province of Phuket and in Bangkok. It was co-founded in 2003 by Margot Homburg, a Dutch retiree, and John and Gill Dalley, who retired from England.
Soi Dog helps the homeless, neglected and abused dogs and cats of Thailand. They tirelessly work to end the dog meat trade throughout the region, and respond to animal welfare disasters and emergencies.
Soi Dog runs a shelter and rehoming center for over four hundred dogs (that’s growing daily) that have been abandoned or abused and subjected to sometimes terrible cruelty. Thousands more are treated for injury and disease every year by providing emergency and ongoing veterinary treatment for abused and neglected street dogs and cats. They also feed hundreds of dogs and cats who live in temples and other locations around the province of Phuket. They have also built a shelter in northern Thailand that holds over one and a half thousand dogs that have been rescued from the illegal dog meat trade. They also have a permanent clinic in Bangkok.
This book will give you an overview of the whole organization, and what they are striving to achieve and what they have achieved to date.
You will learn everything there is to know about Soi Dog, and the people who spend their lives helping the neglected dogs and cats of Thailand. People who have suffered immense personal injury in the pursuit of protecting the animals that have no voice, and who need someone to stand up for them.
You will meet the people who make Soi Dog possible, who volunteer their time and energy into the foundation. People who have drastically changed their lives in order to make a difference. You will read their stories and those of the animals that have been saved.
You will get a personal tour of the Soi Dog Foundation, and the day-to-day running of the Phuket facility, by the author Glen Johnson, who also goes out with rescue officers and follows the procedure of catching the stray dogs and returning them to the Soi Dog clinic to be sterilized.
Read the story of those who give their time and energy to save the animals of Thailand.
“Thank you for all the work you do for those who have no voice.”
