“Kate, get on my cock, babe.” Without hesitation, she slid on top of my lap and unfastened my belt and zipper, her dress riding up her thighs. I gripped her wrists and stopped her going further.

“Hold it. Trisha . . . your turn . . . free me,” I ordered. She took over, leaning in to suck and lick while fisting my cock in her palms.

“Get the condom, Kate. Top pocket,” I hissed as I released my grip on her. She found it and handed it to Trisha who rolled it on expertly, then guided my cock into Kate’s wet pussy.

This was my idea of the perfect night—getting action on the back seat with two beautiful women—before tying them down and making them submit to me, then screwing them senseless till dawn. My inner dom reveled.

Life couldn’t get any better, could it?

“Sir, where to go?” Kumar asked, alarm in his voice. But I was on the verge of coming; I simply didn’t care where the hell we were going.

“Just drive,” I groaned. “Just drive . . .” I mumbled some incoherent shit, my eyes rolling back in my head.

“Sheesh,” he exclaimed as Kate bounced on my lap, shaking the car. Trisha had pushed her bra down and caressed her own breasts while watching us with glee. An orgasm ripped through me and I grunted as I pumped into my newest lady friend.

Leaning back, I closed my eyes, only to be assaulted with the vision of a pair of steel-grey eyes looking at me with disgust. Fuck, what was that? My eyes flew open and I shook my head. How the fuck did Eva Ryder get inside my head at a moment like this?

Running my fingers through my hair, I sighed. The plan had just changed. “Kumar, pull over,” I instructed. “Ladies, where can he drop you off?”

“Baby, what do you mean? The party hasn’t even begun,” Trisha wailed. “I haven’t had my turn on your cock.”

I slapped Kate’s naked ass. “Get off me. Now.” I shoved her aside and pulled the condom off, tied it into a knot and placed it in the overfull plastic bag my Indian friend had hung in the back to collect rubbish.

“What bit you, tiger? You can’t be serious about stopping this now?”

“I am. Party’s over. Stop the taxi.”

The driver pulled over to the curb. I put my cock back into my pants and zipped up, then shifted passed the girls and opened the door. I shoved a Franklin into the man’s hands.

“Chuck out the rubbish when you drop the girls, Kumar.” He nodded.

“Later,” I said as I got out into the cool night air to wait for the next taxi to take me home. I didn’t need visions of Eva in my head while I was fucking other girls. It was going to be a long night indeed.

  Chapter Twenty-One — Eva

I hadn’t had a decent night’s sleep since I’d packed Nolan’s bags and told him to get the fuck out. We’d picked out every single item in the apartment together, so everything reminded me of him, and sometimes I missed him so much that my heart clenched in my chest.

But when I remembered why I’d thrown him and his engagement ring out, my blood seethed as rage gripped me, dissolving any feelings of sadness and replacing them with stone-cold resentment.

Miu-miu whimpered, going around in circles, chasing her own tail. She wanted to do her business outside. If I didn’t hurry and take her out, she’d leave a poo right there on the bamboo flooring. “Jesus, where’s Nolan now?” I grumbled. He bought the dog for an anniversary gift six months ago, even though I’d told him countless times I didn’t want pets in an apartment.

“But every happy home needs a pet to cuddle,” he’d said as he handed me the fluff ball. And in spite of my resistance, she’d wormed her way into my heart on the damn spot, making me melt. She was smart too. As a puppy she chewed his slippers and peed on his side of the bed. I had to laugh at the irony of it all.

“Come, let’s take you out,” I said as I grabbed her leash. It was getting chilly at night because winter was creeping closer, but I couldn’t be bothered to grab a robe. Usually there was nobody around at this time, and I’d slipped out in my silky pajamas many a night before without being busted.

Miu-miu shot out as soon as I opened the door and bolted down the stairwell. I laughed and ran after her, thinking of all the calories I’d burned running up and down these steps after her the last few weeks since Nolan had gone. He’d never wanted me to take her out at night; according to him it was dangerous for a woman to be out there alone. When I'd replied that my watchdog would protect me, he just laughed and tucked her under his arm before leaving the apartment. Little did I know that the whole frigging toilet training routine was rigged as a chance for him to make phone calls to his new assistant. And not to talk about work, either. I caught him screwing the bimbo not long after, in our bed, in our apartment.

I’d put the apartment up for sale immediately. It sold within three weeks because I was willing to take a knock on the price just to get out. I’d also thrown in the furniture Nolan had bought which had sweetened the deal. In a few weeks I was moving to a new apartment I'd bought in an entirely different area so that I wouldn’t be reminded of him in any way.

Part of me also wanted to get rid of the dog after that, but I just couldn’t let her go too. So here I was, doing the toilet training by myself with a puppy I’d never really wanted but now loved. I smiled at how strange life was, how it took us on paths so different to what we expected.

Usually the glass door was closed at the entrance and that gave me a chance to catch up to Miu-miu before I clipped the leash on and walked her out, but tonight someone had left the door open and she had darted right out by herself. My heart beat wildly in my chest. Damn, she was so small she could easily get run over by a car. Panic swept through me as I ran out, calling her name.

In the distance I saw a stranger crouch down and pat her. Jesus, he’d better not steal my dog. Miu-miu was a thoroughbred Yorkie, and she was worth a small fortune. It would be easy to snatch my baby and walk off with her. Damn little bitch was way too trusting of strangers. I'd be crushed if I lost her too.

“Hey, Mister, let my dog go,” I shouted. “Miu-miu, come here.” I tried to keep the panic out of my voice, but I couldn’t help mistrusting the stranger. He seemed dark and dangerous, looming over her.

He rose to his feet and stared in my direction, holding Miu-miu under his arm. He was a humungous man, tall and wide; his silhouette in the dark was ominous and scary, but nothing was going to stop me from protecting my dog. She really was all I had to pour my love into.

As I stepped into the light, he quickly put her down, turned and disappeared around the corner. Damn. I was shaking like a leaf, cold and shivering. But adrenaline was running through my veins, readying my fight or flight reflexes. I scooped the tiny dog into my arms, a sigh of relief escaping into the night.

Just then a hand rested on my shoulder. I swung around, ready to punch whoever approached.

“It's only me. What the hell are you doing out at night by yourself?”

“N . . . Nolan? What the hell are you doing here?”

He gave me that sexy smile that always made my heart skip a beat. “I missed you, babe. I can’t stop thinking about you.”

  “That still doesn’t explain why you’re here . . .”

“I was in the neighborhood and just wanted to stare up at our window, knowing you were inside, sleeping.” He reached out and stroked Miu-miu’s head. She licked his hand and wagged her tail, overly happy to see him. Traitor.

“Well, stare at the window all you want. I'm going back in now.” Miu-miu yelped as I yanked her away from him and stormed toward the building.

“Babe, wait.” With a few long strides he caught up to me, placing his hand on the small of my back.

“I'm not your babe. And no, you can’t come up. It's not our apartment any longer—it's mine, and I don’t want you in it.”

“Try to stop me. You know you can’t. You were never good at hiding your feelings. I bet you are wet for me at this very moment.” He pulled me back so that I stumbled against him, nearly dropping
the dog.

His lips crushed down on mine. I pushed against his chest, breaking the kiss. “Nolan, no. Let me go.”

“No way, babe. I want you back. And I want you in our bed. Now.”

“Fuck off, Nolan. Go screw your hussy,” I spat at him. I used to love how he bossed me around, always so cocksure of what he wanted. It had been a huge turn-on for me. But there was no way I was going to let him near my bed tonight or any time in the future.

“We’re going up together and I'm going to fuck you tonight,” he hissed as he gripped and squeezed my arm.

“Let go. You’re hurting me,” I cried as I tried to loosen his grip.

A deep gruff voice spoke out from the dark. “You don’t listen well, do you, Senator?”

It was him. The man I’d seen crouched over Miu-miu earlier . . . was Harrison. Holy crap, could this night get any worse?

Nolan spun around, caught off-guard. His eyes were round. “Asshole, who the hell are you?”

He stepped into the light. “Harrison? What the hell are you doing here?” Jesus, this was becoming a comedy of errors. How in hell did he know where I lived? And what was he doing outside my building? Miu-miu wagged her tail again. This time, the little bitch was getting grounded for turning against me.

“A taxi mix-up. Was just on my way to the main road to catch another when your dog attacked me.”

“Attacked you? You’re kidding, right?” I couldn’t help laughing—it cracked me up to think of my small dog biting this big muscled man.

“Yeah, she nipped my ankles. Drew blood.”

“Hang on a minute. How do you know each other? And who the hell are you?” Nolan growled, pushing his chest out to make himself bigger against his large opponent. He could have saved himself the trouble. Ten gym passes wouldn’t get Nolan Walker to ever look anything like Harrison.

“Look, Senator Walker, just trust me when I say it's better for you to leave now. Otherwise I may have to take you in for harassing a woman.” Harrison flashed a badge that he’d dug from his pants pocket.

“This is my fiancée, idiot. And it's none of your business what we’re doing.” Even in the semi-darkness I could see Nolan’s face turn red.

  “Ex-fiancée. We are over, remember?”

Harrison flipped his phone open. His voice was tight. “I'm giving you a chance to change your mind before I call my team to bring a patrol car around.”

“Cunt. I’ll have your badge for this,” Nolan spat out.

Harrison’s face was drawn, his jaw clenched. He grabbed Nolan by the collar of his shirt and jerked him forward with ease. “You can call me anything you like, senator, but never a cunt. Especially not in front of a lady. Because a cunt is a beautiful thing. I hate when assholes use the word as if it's something ugly. Now get the hell out of here before I—”

The animosity between the two men was escalating by the second. I cut in, not wanting a fight on my doorstep. Placing a hand on Harrison’s arm to stop him from saying or doing something he may regret, I turned to Nolan. “Please leave. If you want to talk to me, call to set up an appointment at my office. Otherwise, I have nothing more to say to you.”

Nolan opened his mouth to respond, but changed his mind. He turned on his heels and walked towards the Bentley that stood ten yards away. Before he even reached the car, the driver jumped out and held the door open for him. He stopped dead in his tracks. “It was a misunderstanding, my love. I’ll call tomorrow so we can fix it.” He blew me a kiss, then ducked his head as he got into the vehicle. Miles, the driver, smiled at me as he always had, probably thinking everything was sweet with us. Wrong.

I shivered, aware that my nipples were hard from the cold and probably visible through the thin fabric. I hugged Miu-miu to my chest in an attempt to hide it, but Harrison was grinning as he watched me, a strange twinkle in his eyes.

“Your dog bit me. I think you at least owe me a cleanup.”

I doubted very much that Harrison cared about a few teeth marks on his ankle, if that were even true. He noticed my hesitation. “There’s blood, Eva. I hate blood on me.” His face was stern, not one iota of joking in his expression. That part was definitely true. How very strange. I'd never expected that from a hard and somewhat callous man like him. In fact, I’d have thought he’d be used to seeing and possibly having blood on him in his line of his work. Bizarre.

My skin was icy-cold and goose bumps were now covering its entire surface. Harrison laid a hand on my back and steered me inside the building. “You’re freezing. Let’s get you inside.”

I nodded, at a loss for words at his bossiness, but deep down I really liked it. I liked when a man took charge. I liked when he cared enough to want to protect me. Whoa, steady, Eva. This one is off-limits. He’s all kinds of fucked up . . . He’s Jade’s brother . . . And I never believed in hooking up on the rebound, anyway.

We rode up the elevator in silence. Even Miu-miu buried her head under my arm, feeling the loaded atmosphere. The way he was staring at me, his eyes piercing mine, his jaw clenching so I could see the muscles move . . . Was there something so raw and carnal about Harrison Summers that I actually started feeling hot? A shiver ran up my spine, eliciting a chuckle and a raised eyebrow from Harrison. How could I be hot and cold at the same time? The man made me feverish, confusing my body and my mind.

Darting out of the elevator, I pushed the door open. He followed me in and closed the door. “What? You don’t lock your front door? Are you aware that there is a whole city of crazies out there?” he growled as he locked it.

I lifted my chin. “This building is very secure. Nolan checked it out before we moved in. Nobody is going to get in here.”

“Sweetheart, you have no idea, do you? But I blame the Senator. He should know better.”

“How did you know who Nolan is? And how come you were outside my building? It's too strange to be coincidence. Start talking.”

  Chapter Twenty-Two — Harrison

I blinked hard. I was in a tight spot, all right. She was justified asking me these questions, but even I wasn’t sure how in hell I’d ended up here. Had I mentioned her address to the taxi driver subconsciously while I had that chick on my dick?

I shrugged. “Your ex is a high-profile politician—of course I know who he is. And I told you it was a taxi mix-up that got me here. How would I know where you live?”

Moving with feline grace, she took the first-aid kit from the kitchen cabinet. I couldn’t tear my eyes from her body, tall and slim, with athletic arms and legs I would love to feel wrapped around me. But it was her mouth, full and sensual, that made my cock jerk at the thought of her lips wrapped around me.

She laughed. “Of all the places in Los Angeles, your taxi drops you near where I live. Right.”

She lifted my jeans and flinched when she saw the blood that ran into my shoe. I'd never worn socks in my life, but now I could see the sense in wearing them. “By the way, I’m assuming your dog has had all her shots?” Fuck, the last thing I needed was some disease.

“You bet.” She winked. “But have you had all your shots? I don’t want my puppy picking up a strange disease.” She wiped the area down with a solution that stung like hell. Her hands were quick and efficient, yet also soft and gentle. She applied just enough pressure to stop the bleeding, but there was something in her touch that affected me like never before. My stomach rolled, unsettled by the unfamiliar feeling that had lodged itself somewhere between my dick and my heart.

I watched her without a word as she applied antiseptic cream and then stuck a big Band-Aid over the wound. The skin had only been punctured; it wasn’t really a big deal at all. But every time I saw blood, it transported me ten years, back to the day I was covered in Amy’s blood. Blood anywhere on me freaked me the fuck out; it turned me into a goddamn mess.

“You’re so pale. Can I get you anything to drink? A nice cup of tea? My grandmother swore by it after an upset.” Her voice was soft and coaxing, as if she were speaking to a frig
htened child.

“Fuck, that bad, huh?” I croaked, my chest tight as hell. Was it the sight of blood or was it her nearness that was affecting me like this? It's the blood. Definitely.

“I’ve never seen a grown man react like this to a bit of blood. Luckily the bite looked worse than what it really was. You’ll live.” She smiled and turned to boil the kettle.

Truth be told, I would’ve preferred something a lot stronger to drink. But I sensed I wasn’t getting anything other than tea.

  Chapter Twenty-Three — Jade

Six weeks after the trip to New York.

The time had come to tell Ryder. We’d been back from New York for a week and although we’d both been busy catching up with business, I had to sit him down and talk to him, face to face.

Good Lord, I was shaking from head to toe, uncertain what his reaction would be. What if he didn’t want this? What if he turned his back on me and walked out of my life forever?

Stupid girl, Jade. You should never have let this happen.

For a smart intelligent woman, I'd fucked up royally. But I had to get it out, tell Ryder, and take the consequences, whatever they were. It was eating me alive, keeping secrets from him.

I curled up on the sofa beside him, folding both my legs under me. I'd just had a shower, and my hair was still damp. I pulled the white fluffy robe closer to my body, a shiver running down my spine.

Ryder looked up from what he was doing on the laptop, raising both eyebrows in question. “Cold, baby?” he asked, concern in his voice. He set the computer down on the coffee table and gave me a smile that took my breath away. He held both arms out, inviting me to snuggle into his warmth.

  God, I love him.

“N . . . no,” I lied, frozen to the bone as panic gripped my throat. This was the moment of truth.

His strong arms encaged me, pulling me against his chest as his hands ran up and down my back in soothing circles. This was heaven. I sighed and relaxed against him, savoring the moment, drinking in his intoxicating scent.
