Once Upon a Heartbreak

Leaning back from her husband’s face, Clover gave him a mischievous smile. “I didn’t wait for the countdown. I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t wait to kiss you…”
“Don’t apologize,” murmured Cade, caressing her cheek almost reverently. “That’s exactly what I’d been hoping you’d do.”

And so we have reached the end of this trilogy. I don’t know how I will manage from now on without these characters to keep me company, but I hope I’ll soon find some new ones to spend my time with.
I’d like to thank all of you who have followed this story together with me, and who have laughed and cried with the protagonists and felt such a part of their lives that you have asked me to write more chapters: I understand you, and a part of me would like to oblige by continuing to tell the stories of Clover, Cade, Zoe, Eric, Liberty and Zack until they’re at retirement age, but the beauty of fairy stories is knowing that they remain stories, without any really definitive conclusion.
At the cost of repeating myself, I’d like to thank those “few good” people who are with me every day, for sharing this adventure with me: my publisher, for their continued trust and help (especially Martina, Alessandra, Gabriele and Clelia above all, because they are the ones who have to put up with me most!).
I’d also like to send out a virtual hug to all the children who have been around me for twelve years, because they’ve reminded me how beautiful it is to be open minded, to believe in the impossible and to always be enthusiastic, especially about the simplest things. I hope, in my small way, that I’ve taught you all something in turn.
I’d like to thank, now and always, my personal coach and friend Battina, because she was able to make the talent that I knew I possessed but for too long had struggled to recognize, shine.
I’ve dedicated this book to “those who managed to look beyond,” and I’d like to repeat the concept: don’t stop at the appearances, don’t be stopped by obstacles, don’t be afraid to live your dreams – more often than not, we are the ones who stop ourselves from achieving our happiness.
