My heart is pounding in my chest, filled with such love for this man. I can’t stand it and jump into his arms, both of us falling on the floor with an “Oomph!” We’re both laughing as we kiss, tears streaming down my face. “Yes! Yes! Yes!” I murmur over and over as I kiss him. Needing air, and of course, I need to pee, he helps me up. I’m still in his arms, him holding me tightly as I sit on his lap. He pulls out a small black box, and I gasp when he opens it. There sits the most beautiful ring with amethyst stones in small triangle settings surrounding the biggest diamond. It’s perfect! He removes it from its cozy confines, and I hold out my left hand for him. Of course, my fingers are so swollen that it doesn’t fit.
He looks at me and smiles. “Once Kaelyn is here, it’ll fit perfectly.” I nod, knowing he’s right. He puts it back into the box for safe keeping then helps me stand. I sit back down on the chair and he leans down over me, kissing me hard.
“I love you, Jax,” I whisper against his lips.
“I love you, Coffee Girl.” He winks. “You can just call me HT.”
Oh.
My.
God!
Epilogue
Molly....
Okay, now, where were we? Oh yeah!
“Chance Geary?” Rylie blurts.
“Hmmm, isn’t he that guy in those two movies? Oh, what’s the name of them? And didn’t we meet him that one time? Oh yeah. Then he came to your birthday party – more like crashed the party,” I state with a huff. Yeah, I remember him from the signing. And Rylie’s birthday party? Don’t get me started. Arrogant piece of shit.
“A Time For Love and Breaking All The Rules,” she whispers.
“Yeah! That’s them! What the….” I walk over and stand next to her when I see a guy peering in the front door. It couldn’t be. Son of a bitch!
“Chance Geary,” she whispers, frozen in her spot.
“Oh, my fucking God!” I walk toward the front door, my hand on the knob, ready to open it and kick his ass to the curb. Seriously, I don’t know why she’s acting this way. I mean, granted, we haven’t seen him since her birthday party, but she wasn’t too klutzy around him then. Well, except for knocking that dish onto the floor. Hmm.
“NO! Don’t open that door!” She screams, backing up until she hits the counter.
“What the hell, Ry?” She’s freaking out because he’s one of her “idols” when I know him differently. Oh, so differently. Between the signing, her birthday party, and seeing him on the movie set, she still freaks out when she sees him. She’s gonna have another one of her klutzy moments, if she’s not careful. Maybe it’s best that I’m so far away from her. We can’t afford to lose any more employees. That’s a story for another time. And she’s ready to pop Kaelyn out any moment. With all this nervous excitement, she’s liable to have her at the shop. I ain’t birthin’ no babies. Ha, I crack myself up.
She starts moving toward the back room. I know exactly where’s she’s going. We really should add a room with a lock back there with a couch and TV, something more comfortable for her to hide in, instead of the bathroom. Like an employee lounge only it would be where she can go when she’s flustered. “Don’t you dare open that fucking door until I’m safely back there! Wait on him and then get him outta here fast.” Oh, don’t worry. I fully intend to. He might be leaving with a black eye or bent over from me kicking his junk though. She starts backing into the room, and then I hear the bathroom door in there slam.
Once she’s safely locked into her beloved bathroom, I open the door a crack, keeping the chain securely fastened, inhibiting it from opening further. “What in the hell do you want? And why did you come here?” I shout/whisper. He smiles, showing me those fucking white straight teeth, acting like it’s no big deal for him to just show up here. Unannounced! Jerkwad!
“Hey, Cupcake. What’s the big deal?” He shrugs his shoulders, and I want to junk punch him. “I wanna see you. You won’t answer my texts.” No, I won’t. “You won’t answer your phone when I call.” Definitely not! “And I’m not even sure you’re listening to my voicemails.” Nope. Not a one! “What’s a good lookin’ guy gotta do to get you to go out with him?” Not be so arrogant? Not be so – you?
I start to close the door in his face but he pushes it back. “Look.” I sigh. “Leave me alone. Just because….”
He pushes his hand through the small opening, wrapping it around the side of the door, keeping it open. “Just because I kissed you?” Once! “Doesn’t mean it meant anything – I know the drill.” Thing is, it kinda did. Dammit! “Thing is – most women like me to kiss them, want to go out with me. I gotta tell ya, I normally don’t have to work this hard.” He did not just say that!
“Well….” I start putting my free hand on my hip. “I’m not most women. In fact, I’m not one of your regular floozies that fall at your feet when you even look at them.” His smile grows. “I don’t even like you!” I’m getting angrier by the second with his arrogant behavior. Thinking he’s all that!
His eyes travel down my face, stopping at my lips, lingering a little too long there, then make their way down until they zone right on my girls. “I dunno, Cupcake. Looks like you might be saying no but your body is definitely sayin’ – why the hell are we still standing here? Let’s go somewhere private.” He winks as he looks back up into my eyes.
I look down, and I’ll be damned if my nipples aren’t poking out against my t-shirt, like twin peaks and harder than fucking pebbles. Traitors! Letting out another sigh as I close my eyes briefly, I stand up straight, thinking of another approach. “Okay. Well, you got me there. How about you call me later and we’ll set something up?” I smile, well I try to, hoping I can get him to leave if I pretend to fawn all over him. I’m gonna throw up.
He looks like he’s considering it then laughs. “Nice try, Cupcake. But that’s not gonna work.” Dammit! He may be an arrogant asstwat but he’s a smart one. I’ll give him that. He pushes on the door and the chain clangs. He sighs. “Look, we’re gonna be seeing a lot of each other with some of the filming of your friends movie being down around here. Why don’t we just shake hands and be friends.” He smiles and I swear that toothpaste commercial flashes in my mind. You know, the one where there’s like a spark that glints off his front tooth when he smiles? I wanna smack that smile right off his gorgeous face. Okay, I’m not blind! Suddenly, keeping his hand on the door, he reaches in the small opening with his free hand grabs my hand and pulls me toward him and locks his lips on mine. I struggle. I melt. I lose my mind. And then – I regain my senses. Pulling back, hard, I get loose from his grip. He smiles and winks. His eyes widen in shock and then – I slam the door, with his hand still holding onto the side of it. Oops! That had to hurt.
“OW! OW! OW!”
Smiling, I hear him screeching, rubbing my hands together as if I’m washing my hands of him, and walking into the back room, whistling, until I’m in front of the bathroom door. “It’s okay, Ry. You can come out now. He’s gone,” I sing-song. Taking a deep breath, I let it out slowly, still smiling and feeling pretty proud of myself.
The door opens slowly, and she peeks out. “You sure?”
I nod. “Most definitely,” I say rocking back on my heels.
She creeps out of the bathroom and walks over to the desk. “Why do you look so unusually chipper? What did you do, Molly?” When she sits down, it doesn’t go unnoticed her hand covering her very large stomach. I can’t believe I’m going to be an aunt and to a little girl! I’ll teach Kaelyn that girls can be tough. That they can play hard and when they grow up they can get piercings and tattoos and to stay away from arrogant guys! Which doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for dating. Then again, my Rylie is getting married too! Of course, I’ll be the maid of honor. God! I hope she doesn’t expect me to wear some fancy dress. So not my style!
“Can’t a girl be i
n a good mood?” I walk over to the preparing table and start laying out dough. I pick up the rolling pin and tilt my head. I could’ve used this a little bit ago. I beat it against the palm of my hand. Would have made a great weapon. Nah! Would have left a mark. I hear her laugh and I shrug, while kneading out the dough.
“Yeah, so not like you.” She lets out a snort. Well, I see that even though she’s found her real book boyfriend, some things haven’t changed. “So….”
Damn, I love how I get a good arm workout kneading dough. “So? What?”
I can feel her rolling her eyes, something she inherited from me from when we were teenagers. “So, what happened with Chance at the front door?” And – there it is. Took her long enough. I’m surprised she didn’t ask that when I opened the bathroom door. I guess her patience is getting a little better.
“Nothing. I told him we weren’t open yet.”
There’s that snort again. “You told the Chance Geary we weren’t open? Oh, my God, Molly! That’s just crazy!”
I let out a breath. “Sheesh, Ry! He’s just a guy!” I shrug again, stretching my arms out as I roll the dough to the other side of the table. He’s one of the most gorgeous and sexy guys I’ve ever seen!
“Well, I like to think I’m more than just any guy.”
I look up, my breasts pressed against the table. What the hell? He’s standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame, and holding onto his hand that I may have smashed in the front door. Didn’t I lock the door? Shit! “What are you doing in here?” I growl. His eyes aren’t on mine, they’re looking down at my major cleavage that’s smooshed on the table. “Eyes up here, Buster!”
“Molly!” Rylie yells. She stands and walks over to him. “Oh, my God! What happened to your hand?” Her eyes are huge as she cups his very swollen, very red hand. She gives me the evil eye as she grasps his arm while she continues to cup his hurt hand. “Come in here.” She walks with him over to the desk chair and he sits. Great! I guess my plan backfired. “I’ll go get the first aid kit.” She walks off and into the bathroom, still giving me the stink eye.
“What?” I mouth at her. She just lowers her brows and scrunches her face.
“Thanks for the present, Cupcake.”
I look over at his smug face and sneer. “Don’t call me that.” Okay, I’ll admit I feel a little bad for hurting his hand. But in my defense, he shouldn’t have had his hand on the side of the door, and he should have left when I asked him to. Okay, told him to. I’ll also admit, he is very good looking and would make the ultimate book boyfriend to some, but for me – he’s too arrogant, too cocky, and too damn perfect! Ugh! He infuriates me!
“Here we go!”
I straighten up, picking up the cutter and slam it into the dough as Rylie walks back into the room. “I feel so bad that this happened,” she says as she squats down in front of him and opens the first aid box. She’s never gonna be able to get up with that large tummy. “I think you should go to the ER.” Her eyes slide to mine and then back at his hand. “We’ll pay for it.”
He does something that shocks the hell outta me. He stands and helps her up. “You shouldn’t be down there, especially in your condition. Here. You sit and I’ll stand.” Well, I’ll be.
First of all, I’m kinda proud that she isn’t her normal stuttering, stammering, klutzy self. Huh. I guess falling in love with her own real book boyfriend has helped her with all that. Still, she did run into the bathroom to hide when the almighty Chance showed up. Well, I guess she’s getting better, at least. Second, my heart might be racing, just a tad, with him here, especially when he stood so she could sit down. You know, like a gentleman instead of his normal asshole self. Stupid heart! I’m just gonna ignore him, the best I can with his woodsy manly smell, and is that – Bottle Caps? The candy? Weird! I’ve got to concentrate on what I’m doing and not arrogant, good looking, Bottle Cap smelling asshole! God, I freakin’ love Bottle Caps.
“Well, if you insist I’ll go to the ER,” he says, staring intently at me.
Rylie wraps his hand in an Ace bandage then walks to the freezer, gathers some ice in a plastic bag and wraps it in a dish towel, then takes it over to him and places it on his hand. “Good. Molly will take you.”
I’m shaking my head, and my eye is twitching. “I’ll what?” She gives me her mean look. “No. I.... uh. I have to finish this now that I started.” Shit! Please, please, please. Don’t make me go. Don’t make me be alone with him! She looks back at him.
“That would be very nice,” he says, looking at me with playfulness in his eyes. I stick out my tongue at him. I can tell he’s trying not to laugh. “But I don’t want to be any bother,” he adds, looking at Rylie. Suck up.
She’s stares back at me. “Oh! It’s no problem. Really. Molly would love to take you. Isn’t that right, Molly?” Her – don’t make me hurt you look – is winning out but then again, she is my best friend, even though she’s getting ready to hand me over to Satan himself and doesn’t realize it.
“Sure.” I smile but say through gritted teeth.
She turns to Chance as she pushes her hand against the desk, trying to get up from the chair. He reaches down and grasps her arm with his good hand helping her up. “It’s settled!” She smiles at him. “Thank you. I drove the SUV this morning so Molly can take you in it.” She looks at me, holding up the keys.
Kill.
Me.
Now.
I smile as sickingly sweet as I possibly can, wipe off my hands, and walk over to Rylie, taking her keys. Reluctantly, I walk with Chance out of the room.
“Bitsy and Duncan will be here in a few minutes so we’ll open. Don’t worry about anything here, Molly. Take your time,” Rylie shouts.
Shit! I hope it doesn’t take that long. I don’t want to be with him any longer than I possibly have to. Alone.
Unlocking the doors to the SUV, I walk around the front of the car, looking up and down the street, then get in. It was kinda nice she got to part on the street right in front of the shop. Good thing I’m not like her and even though I don’t own a car, I got my license as soon as I turned sixteen. Just in case. I start her up and look around, pulling out onto the street. The hospital isn’t far but too far to walk. It’s quiet, which is good and bad, scary all at the same time. I’m loving the small reprieve. Then, as if reading my thoughts, I feel his hand on my thigh, squeezing. I look down, tilting my head at his hurt hand. Hmmm. Must not hurt that badly as he kneads my thigh like he’s squeezing a stress ball. Which reminds me. I need to get me one of those – or a dozen. I think I’ll be needing them to keep my temper in check when he starts filming. He’ll be around way too much.
I look over at him and smirk. “Do you mind?”
He winks at me. “No. Not at all.” He winks, again. The arrogant....
We both sway as I pull on the steering wheel hard, parking next to a curb and slam it into park. Turning slightly, I lower my brows and give him my best scowl. “Look, Jerkwad!” He puts his hand over his heart, feigning like I hurt him. “Give me a break! You don’t fool me. I’m not a stupid floozy! I’ll take you to the ER only because my best friend asked me to but this in no way means I like you. Or ever will!”
He blinks several times. “That’s the hottest thing any woman’s ever said to me.” What?
I turn to start the engine when he grabs my hand with his so-called hurt one and pulls me to him. His mouth covers mine in one swift movement. I push against his chest. I try to tear my lips from his. I become lightheaded as his tongue pushes inside my mouth, playing a game of cat and mouse. I melt. I may have even swooned. Shit, if he doesn’t have a magical and very talented mouth and tongue. Wait! Shaking my head, I manage to push back, breathing heavy and covered in a light sweat. He smiles, flashing me those pearly whites.
“Don’t worry, Cupcake. I’ll grow on you.”<

I doubt that. I’m in so much fucking trouble.
