More Than Friends

“Okay.” He leaned towards me again, gave me a quick peck on the cheek, and climbed out of the car.

I put my car in drive, exited the park, and headed back to the hospital. I needed to be with Chloe. I figured Skye would most likely be there as well. I called the detective again and was sent straight to voicemail. While I left my name and a quick description of why I was calling, I noticed a blue, Dodge pickup pull out behind me.

I immediately recognized Todd in the driver’s seat through my rearview mirror. His rusty bumper barreled toward my VW until it was barely inches away. Terror washed over me in giant waves. Without looking down, I grabbed my phone and hit send on the last call, hoping Harley would answer quickly.

The phone rang twice, but the voice that answered was definitely not Harley. It was then that I realized I was holding Tom’s phone. I’d just called the last number he’d dialed.

“Hey, Sara. Beautiful day for a drive, isn’t it?” Todd sounded like a creep from a slasher film.

“Why are you riding my ass, you creep?” I shouted at him. BAM. My little Beetle jerked forward.

“Stop! Are you trying to kill me?” I screamed.

“That depends. Tom here says you took something that belongs to him. He’d like it back. Why don’t you pull over and give him his phone, Sara?” Bam. My car jolted again. Are you fucking kidding me? I pressed the gas, speeding up and hoping to lose him.

“You tell that traitor that he won’t need his damn phone where y’all are going.” BAM. My car was fishtailing. Luckily, I was able to regain control.

“Now that wasn’t nice, Sara. Just pull over and give him his phone, then you can go on your way,” he lied.

“No chance in hell. Which is exactly where you’re going to fucking burn for what you did to Chloe.” WHAM! My car swerved to the far left and began spinning.

About me? Huh well what can I say. I'm a twenty-eight-year-old stay at home mother of two beautiful girls.

My children are amazing. There isn’t a day that goes by that they don’t challenge my husband and I or make us laugh and feel loved. Growing up the way I did, I never wanted kids, but they’re here and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world for. God has truly blessed my family and me.

My husband Bill is the levelheaded one; he’s always so calm and logical, whereas I'm the loud-mouthed spaz that doesn’t know when to shut up. He was my saving grace in a time when I really needed one. I honestly believe he is my gift from God. He’s everything I've ever wanted: smart, kind, loving, PATIENT, (lord knows he needs it living with me) and so very supportive!

I'm a firm believer in going through life’s tragedies and blessings so that you can become the person you were meant to be. Writing has always been a hidden passion of mine and I am so thankful that I finally have the opportunity to share my stories with you.
