“Deal.” He pulled me in and kissed me, his lips everything that I’d been longing for. Then he wrapped me in a hug and crushed me to his chest. His heart was hammering. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, Hannah Roberts. And I’m never letting you go.”

  “Jake.”

“Yes, sweetheart?” He kissed the top of my head. “I like when you sound like that, all breathless.”

“You’re squeezing me so hard, I can’t breathe,” I squeaked.

“Sorry.” He loosened his hold, but not by much.

“Jake,” I said again. “Do you, um, know this trail very well? Because maybe there’s a spot where we could, you know, be private.”

He froze. “Why, Ms. Roberts, are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting?”

  “Maybe.”

“I knew I loved you for a reason.”

He stood up, swept me into his arms, and charged into the trees. I grabbed on to his shoulders to keep from falling. “Where are we going?”

“I don’t know. But we’ll know what to do when we get there.”

I licked his neck. It was warm and salty and delicious. Ideas flooded my brain of all the ways I wanted to touch him. Be with him. Love him.

  “Yes, we certainly will.”
