His shouts faded as he looked around, confused.

“Bluster!” Mother said. “How lovely of you to join us!”

Bluster didn’t seem to know how to react. “Is this a … party?”

  “For Serenity,” Mother said.

“Oh.” Bluster tugged on his vest and cleared his throat. “Well. I suppose my invitation went missing?”

Mother laughed warmly and put a hand on Bluster’s arm. “Bluster, of course you’re invited. Have you seen the buffet? I made Hurricane Cake.”

“Hurricane Cake?” Bluster asked. “Why … that’s my favorite.”

“Like I didn’t know,” Mother said, and led him toward the food. With Bluster no longer a threat, the music started again and everyone went back to celebrating.

Autumn looked around, taking it all in. Mother and Bluster were at the buffet together, nibbling on treats. Serenity sat on her cloud while party guests admired her sparkling blanket. Even the Weeds were busy. They had been cornered by a very friendly and thorny rosebush that loved to give hugs.

Autumn’s sisters pulled her from her thoughts. They ran to her and pounced in a giant group hug, then pulled her into the middle of the canopy, where they whirled and twirled and danced. Autumn nearly burst with happiness, and she realized something she knew was absolutely true.

In two hundred years, she thought, I’m going to remember this as one of the happiest days of my life.
