  Chapter Seven

  CRIMINAL ACCUSATIONS

Sarah was pleased to see Kyrah return in better spirits. While she was heating water for a bath, Sarah asked her, “Have you seen the book I was reading?”

“The last time I saw it, Ritcherd was holding it in the garden. Have you had it since then?”

“No,” she said, “I don’t believe I have. I’ll go out and get it. I’m glad it hasn’t rained.”

Sarah found the book on the bench and sat down there to read. She opened it to find an enveloped tucked between the pages. Opening it, tears came to her eyes as she found an immense amount of money, along with a note. The handwriting appeared almost like a child’s, then Sarah recalled that Ritcherd would be learning to write with his left hand.

For my room and board. And don’t be unbearably proud like your daughter. I want you to take this so you’ll know there will be food on the table, and next time I come to breakfast, I’ll help cook. And remember, there’s always more where this came from. All you have to do is ask. All my love, your son.

Sarah held the note tightly, thanking God for Ritcherd Buchanan’s presence in their lives.
