Being boring was the only way to manage that self-conscious feeling.

And she was hardly boring right now, naked beneath Dr. Jack Karsten’s muscle-bound nude body, his cock softening in her, strappy high heels still the only clothing she wore.

“Mara,” he whispered, firing her nerves, making her press back against the mattress and short-circuiting her mounting anxiety. His fingers stroked in light circles against her shoulder.

“Yes?” Her throat hurt as she answered, making her wonder why.

“The way you called out my name as you came was like listening to a word that unlocks something inside me.” He lifted up and kissed her, his tongue so warm, savoring her, the kiss driven by passion but so intimate it made her fears dissolve, made the blood rush through her like a ritual bath, as if Jack’s confession were cleansing her of all self-doubt.

“And,” he murmured against her mouth, “that was one hell of a bite you gave me.”

  “Bite?”

Nudging her cheek with his chin, Jack turned Mara’s attention to his shoulder, the clear red marks of her teeth in a strange circle, the skin broken.

She blushed with horror. “Oh, my God, Jack, I am so, so sorry!”

He chuckled, the feeling vibrating against her belly and breasts. They were so naked, so close, so fused together.

  It was divine.

  Like... fate, almost.

“Don’t apologize. That was the moment when I realized that you—” He cut his words off like someone had chopped time in half, then shook his head slightly, swallowing so hard she heard a click in his throat.

  “You realized I—what?”

His smile was polite. Something in her started screaming, the intimacy gone. Jack Karsten had walls, too. Mara knew damn well what he was doing, but she was powerless to stop him.
