“Where the fuck is my money, Rich?” Lisa asked.

I tried to play dumb. “What money?”

I looked over at my naked daughter and couldn’t believe what I was seein’. My baby girl was handcuffed by both her feet and hands with blood all over her legs. Both of her eyes were black and swollen, so I didn’t even know if she could see me. I was paralyzed wit’ emotions of anger, but most of all pain.

“Lisa, what have you done to my baby?”

“I haven’t done anything…yet. Now, where the fuck is my money, Rich?” Lisa walked over to Denie and snatched the tape from her mouth, but made sure to keep her gun pointed at me. She ordered me to sit on the floor Indian style and kick my gun to the other side of the room. I knew Lisa had snapped, but what I didn’t know was what she was capable of next, so I did what she told me to do. I knew Juan was on his way, and it was only a matter of time before he would put an end to all of this.

  “Daddy, help me,” Denie begged.

For the first time in my life, I felt there was nothin’ I could do to help my daughter. “Okay Lisa you win. Just let Denie go. I know you’re upset wit’ me, but damn Lisa, how could you hurt our daughter this way. What are you tryin’ to prove?”

“Muthafucka that’s your daughter, not mine. She knows Rich. Tell your daughter the truth for once in your life. Tell her I’m not her mother,” Lisa demanded.

“Why are you doing this? Why would you tell Denie this shit? You want my daughter to hate me that much?” I couldn’t believe her. “Are you doin’ this shit because of Carlos? He wasn’t your fuckin’ husband Lisa, I am.”

“You will never understand what Carlos and I shared. I loved him and you took him away from me. You have no idea what you’ve done to me.”

I had to laugh. “You loved him? That’s funny. Well, I doubt if he loved you. He really fucked you up wit’ those drugs if you think that shit.”

“No, Rich. You fucked me up. All the things that you did to me turned me into this person. The lying, the cheating, you turned me into this person!”

“Stop blamin’ me for this shit. You chose this life, Lisa. You knew what came wit’ the territory of fuckin’ wit’ a nigga like me. The money…the cars, you loved that shit, remember. You loved this life when you got respect in the streets for bein’ my wife.”

“And that same respect in the street turned around and got me raped and kidnapped.” At that point, she turned to Denie. “Open your legs!”

Denie looked at me like she needed my approval first. The fear in her eyes was unbearable to look at.

“Open your legs!” Lisa ordered again. This time, Denie slowly did as she was told. Wit’ one hand on her gun, Lisa grabbed a screwdriver that was layin’ on the bed and held it near Denie’s open vagina.

I shook my head. “Lisa, I’m not gonna sit here and watch you rape my daughter wit’ that thing,” I said. “You’ll have to shoot me first.”

“Why not. You sat and watched me get raped. It’s just her pussy. Life goes on. Isn’t that what you told me after what those bastards did to me!” Lisa held the screwdriver by Denie’s body that was shakin’ uncontrollably.

“Lisa, I’m sorry I said all those hurtful things to you,” I replied. “If it’s a divorce you want, then fuck it. I’ll sign the papers. You can have everything. The house...the cars. I’ll even pay alimony. Just don’t hurt my daughter.”

“Fuck you, Rich! You had two babies on me. How much did you want me to take all these years?” Lisa asked. “But you know what, now the tables are about to turn because I’m pregnant with your cousins baby.”

My eyes widened. All the nice shit that I’d just said, was no longer an option. Just thinkin’ about Carlos made me angry. “You stupid bitch, Los wasn’t my cousin, he was my brother. Because of you, I killed my brother!”

“Stop lying. You’ll say anything to keep me from hurting your precious Denie,” Lisa replied.

“I’m not lyin’. He was my brother, and because of you, he’s dead!”

Not thinkin’, I jumped up and ran toward Lisa. I needed to get the gun out of her hand, in order to save my daughter. As Lisa and I wrestled for the gun, I caught a glimpse of Juan standin’ in the doorway wit’ a smirk on his face. I didn’t understand why he was smilin’. I didn’t understand why he wasn’t helpin’. I didn’t understand what went wrong when two shots were fired through the room and everything went dark.
