The Brothers of Brigadier Station Page 15

She took a deep breath as he opened it to reveal a large, square, pink stone, set on a simple gold band. It sparkled in the sunlight.

  "Marry me?"

"Yes! Nothing in the world would make me happier." She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.

Finally releasing her, he placed the ring on her finger. It was a perfect fit. She studied its simple perfection.

"It's a pink sapphire. My great-grandfather found it fossicking in central Queensland. He had it made into this ring for his fiancé. It's been passed down ever since." Darcy explained.

  "Was it Harriet's?"

He nodded. "I asked her why she didn't give it to Lachie to give to you. She never answered me at the time, but I think she always knew you were meant for me, not him."

She gazed into his sea blue eyes. "And you were meant for me."

"I love you, Meghan." He picked her up around the waist and spun her around. She squealed with delight, knowing that this time, she would marry the right man for the right reasons.
