Flash Point Page 24

by Brooke Blaine

I’M GOIN’ TO DISNEY WORLDDDDDDDD!! Okay, maybe not quite so literally (yet!), and maybe I didn’t hit the lottery (yet!) but sweet Lord have mercy, I wrote a BOOK, and really, that’s so much better. Hot damn.

There is no way Flash Point would be in your hands right now if it wasn’t for my person/bff/critique partner/all-around-saint-for-putting-up-with-me, Ella. From the first day I met you, you encouraged me to do this. Demanded, really. You believe in me when I don’t believe in myself, which, let’s be honest, happens in spectacularly dramatic tantrum fashion at least once a week. I’ve never met a more patient, generous, genuinely good person in my life, and I’m beyond thankful for you every day. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished over the last three years, and I can’t wait to see what we come up with next. Although, knowing us, we’ll probably need to invest in punching bags, muzzles, and lots of ice cream.

To my awesome team of alpha crit & beta hookers: thank you, thank you! Though your feedback was invaluable, your friendship is even more so. Donna/Donner & Jen/Colewhore—also known as the most supportive and fabulous hamcatapple duo on the planet— I appreciate you more than you know. I wish we all lived next door to one another so we could sip cocktails on the patio and bitch about our crazy neighbors every night. Love my tribe. Stacy/Queen Mary & Bianca/Sweet B—there is nothing appropriate I can put in here that won’t scare my grandma if she reads it. Do you see me racking my brain? I love you both so hard. Thank you for (not) kissing my ass, and for making me laugh until I have tears running down my face and have to change my underpants. Yeah, I just said underpants like I’m twelve. I know. I own it. And you’re still not embarrassed to be seen with me. A massive thank you to Renee K, Judy, & Sabrina/Rachel (my wingwoman aka book bitch) for your help, especially during crazy deadlines. I appreciate your (fabulously picky) eyes, but honestly? I’m grateful you wanted to read my little bookie book.

Thank you to Hang Le, my cover designer, who continues to blow me away with her creativity. Do you know how hard it is to sit on the designs you make and not blast them all over the world as soon as they’re ready? It’s torture. You are incredibly gifted, and I look forward to working with you for many more covers.

To Arran, my kickass editor. Thank you for accepting canned spam and Vienna sausages for payment on this book. Maybe I’ll upgrade you to sardines for the next one.

To my Mom, Crystal, and all of my friends and family that I’ve practically ignored for months and months. See? I wasn’t just playing on the computer! I know you all think I’m a hermit now, so I will endeavor to at least step outside and get fresh air once a week. Maybe. Tell me there’s cupcakes, and I’ll be there. Thank you for supporting me while I live out my dreams.

Special thanks to Michelle Tan & Pat Johnson for the gorgeous teasers. To those who always help share those teasers – you all rock. (Looking at you especially, Karen Branton!)

A heartfelt thanks goes to the incredible bloggers that have taken a chance on a newbie. You all are overwhelmed with requests, and yet, you somehow managed to see my book through the chaos. I appreciate you all so much. You do this because you love it, without pay, without many thanks, without recognition. You’re my kind of people. I see you. And thank you.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m something of an obsessive article reader. There is so much information out there, and I’ve spent countless hours gobbling it all up. I have to thank all of the generous writers and those in this business who share their stories and experiences so we can all learn from each other and grow. I will do my best to pay it forward.

And last, but most importantly, YOU. Thank you so, so much for picking up Flash Point. You have a wealth of choices, and the fact that you chose to read mine, whether you loved or hated it…well, I’m beyond grateful. I hope you’ll connect with me on social media so I can thank you personally.
