“Yes. She was attacking my family.”

“You should have stayed behind me.”

“She’s my problem.” Eric looked at him. “You’re my soul.”

“Baby.” What could he say when Eric said things like that to him? He kissed Eric. Hard.

Eric groaned, lips opening up, and the world went away. He could have lost Eric again. For good this time. Groaning, he pulled Eric in closer. Eric’s arms wrapped around his waist, held on tight.

He kissed Eric until he was breathless and then he rested their foreheads together, ignoring the craziness going on around them.

“I want this to be over. We need to make things normal for our family again.” Eric sounded tired.

“We need to find out what normal is for us.”

“God, yes. After we take a vacation.”

“The boat?” They could sail away. Josie was already sold on the idea. It sounded amazing.

“Yes, please. Now works for me.”

The police were swarming, the noise insane, but they were together, focused on each other.

“Stephanie’s going to kill me, but that’s what I pay her the big bucks for, right?”

“It is. You have an iPhone. Let’s go.”

“I have an iPhone. Hell, the yacht has a computer and wireless.” He could call and have the boat ready in two days if he threw a lot of money around. It would take them that long to get flights, get packed, get down to where it was docked.

“I have… a beautiful daughter, a clear calendar, and an endless amount of sunscreen.”

“How much staff are we bringing? Someone to run the boat, someone to help with Josie. A cook-cum-first mate?” He wasn’t going out there without help this time, not with Josie as young as she was, not with him wanting to hide away with Eric and not have to worry about anything.

  “Gordon and Max.”

  “Yes.” His lover was brilliant.

“Excellent.” Eric reached up, cupped his jaw.

He would have kissed Eric again, but his phone started ringing at the same time as an officer came up to them.

“You’re going to need to come downtown with us, sirs.”

Eric gave him a look. “You need to call your lawyer.”

“Yeah, I do. We’ll have him meet us at the station instead of at his office.” He turned to the cop. “We’ll take my car. But first, tell me you arrested that bitch.”

“Yes, sir. Are either of you injured?”

“No, I’m good. Eric?” He was pretty sure Eric was physically fine, but it didn’t hurt to check.

  “I’m angry, not hurt.”

“Of course you’re angry.” He himself was livid. Eric’s mother had been arrested, though, and he was hoping, between the kidnapping and her coming here today with the gun and making threats, that she’d do jail time.

  “Let me call Devon.”

“Yeah. Yeah.” Eric nodded, but stayed right there.

He dug his phone out of his pocket and unlocked it. He had Devon on speed dial. He wasn’t sure what that said about him.

“Ms. Watson.” Devon’s secretary had been and always would be Ms. Watson. She was a scary old bat who guarded Devon’s door like a bulldog and knew her shit; she was almost as good a lawyer as Devon, she knew that much.

“It’s Brock Vencenza. We were supposed to be meeting with Devon there this morning. I’m going to need him to meet us at the precinct downtown instead.”

“Oh, dear me. I’ll let him know, right away.”

“Thanks.” He ended the call and nodded at Eric. “Okay, we’re good to go. Let’s go give our statements and get this thing behind us.”

  “Please. Please, Brock. Let’s.”

“Whatever you want, baby.” He’d move the earth and moon if it’s what Eric wanted.

He guided his lover back over to their car. It was time for this to be over.

  Epilogue

BROCK LAY out on the deck enjoying the slow roll of the yacht, the sunshine beaming down, and the breeze coming off the ocean and cooling everything down.

This had been a brilliant idea.

Eric was relaxed and recuperating beautifully, ditto for Gordon.

Dillon, an ex-marine in Gordon’s employ, was captaining the boat, which meant they didn’t have anything to do but relax, play, and look after each other and Josie.

And Josie. Just thinking about her had Brock smiling. His girl took to the ocean like she was that little mermaid she loved so much.

They were going to have to pull into port somewhere soon, pick up fresh supplies. The islands yielded an amazing bounty of fresh fruit and they’d been eating like kings. He’d let Dillon worry about that, though. He had a book to read. That he hadn’t turned a page in the last forty-five minutes didn’t bother him in the least.

“Daddy Bee! Daddy Bee! I drawed you a fishie!” Josie came barreling down the deck, a paper in one hand, a Popsicle in the other. Eric wandered behind her, as tanned and hale as he’d ever seen.

The scars were hot as hell.

“Yeah? A fishie just for me?” He pushed himself into a sitting position and thought about that Popsicle landing on his lap to get his cock to stop noticing how good Eric looked. His book in his lap kept everything circumspect.

“Uh-huh. Daddy says it’s pretty and I can give it to you ’fore I have my bath and a nap.” Those huge, dark eyes pinned him. “Do I have to take a nap?”

“You know the answer to that one, honey.” Man, she was good at that—he felt guilty as hell.

  “I’m a big girl, now….”

Eric swooped down, tickling her. “Yes, but Gordon and Max say there’s a surprise tonight, for a big girl, and you want to be able to see it, right?” Eric was so good with her, it was wonderful to watch.

“Give me a kiss.” He turned his cheek for her.

She smacked his cheek with sticky lips. “You coming for the surprise tonight?”

“Of course!” It wasn’t like there was anywhere else to go. Not to mention he was damn curious himself about this “big surprise.”

Eric chuckled. “Go on, now. Lacy is waiting for you.” Eric kissed her on the top of her head, the nanny waving and smiling. If he wasn’t mistaken, she had a hickey.

He raised an eyebrow. “Dillon and Lacy?”

Eric watched Josie run off. “Yep. I have a fifty-buck bet with Max over whether she’s knocked up by the time we dry dock.”

  “You betting for or against?”

“I’m for. He says no way.”

“You better check he’s not slipping Dillon condoms, then.”

“Oh, that cheating ass!” Eric laughed and plopped down next to him. “Hey, sexy man.”

He looped his arm around Eric’s shoulders and brought him in for a soft kiss. “Hey. You’re looking good, baby.”

“Feeling good, too.” Eric’s eyes were dancing, happy. Every day away from the city made things easier. “I got an email from Devon. The house sold.”

“All right! I told you it would.”

All it had needed was a fortune’s worth of cleaning. It was more than worth it to get the place off Eric’s hands.

“Yeah. It’ll give a nice nest egg, too, to support me through college. I thought I’d let you put your brain into investing it for me.”

“Yeah? I think I can turn it into a tidy sum for you.” It wasn’t like Eric actually needed money—Brock was loaded. The man had a thing about paying his way, though. Luckily, Brock had another member of the family he could happily spoil rotten.

“I know you can.” Eric settled in close, hand on his belly. “Thank you for this. It’s been like heaven.”

The whole scenario had gotten so ugly; Eric and Josie, even him, they’d needed space, distance from all the nastiness and legal wrangling. Hell, the criminal cases would drag on forever, and by then Eric would be ready to face them all.

They had the internet, they had his iPhone, they had Gordon’s cell phone; Stephanie and Devon both knew how to get in
touch. But most days… most days were like this.

He brought their mouths together, kissing Eric, letting the heat between them begin to build.

“Mmm. Love.” Eric pressed closer, proof of his need, his hunger, evident.

“You gonna ride me, baby?” Now that Eric was better, there were no limits on their lovemaking.

“God, yes.” Eric moaned softly, licked his bottom lip. “Until you beg for mercy, Bee.”

“Me? You’re the one who’s going to be begging, baby.”

Eric’s laugh winged up into the air. “I’d love to see you try.”

“I’ve got the hard-on, you bring the slick.”

“You’ve got a deal.” Eric’s fingers framed his face. “My hero.”

He turned his face and kissed Eric’s palm. “Yours, baby.”

“You know it.” Eric stood, held out one hand. “Come on. Bed. Oh, do you know what Gordon’s surprise is?”

“I haven’t got a damn clue. I’ve even threatened to torture Max, but he won’t tell.” He shot Eric a look. “Do you know?”

“I do.” Eric grinned. “We’re going to have a ball.”

“Oh, no—you don’t get to just leave it there. What are we going to have a ball doing?”

Eric grinned. “Let’s just say there’s going to be cartoons, singing, popcorn, and an extremely happy little girl watching the big screen on the upper deck.”

“He’s going all out to win brownie points with her. We’d better watch out or she’s going to want to spend all her time with her ‘Uncle G.’”

“Mmm.” Eric reached out, cupped his cock. “Brock. Focus. Bed.”

He laughed, pushing into Eric’s touch. “You just want to get into my pants.”

  “Absolutely.”

“Should be pretty easy. They’re yours, just like me.”

Eric’s arm wrapped around his waist and they leaned together. “Promise?”

“I do, baby. Forever.” He tugged Eric in, their lips pressing together.

God, he was one lucky man.

In the background he could hear Josie laughing as she had her bath, the high-pitched sounds sweet.

  “I’m telling Daddy Bee!”

  Oh yeah.

  The luckiest man on earth.

Often referred to as “Space Cowboy” and “Gangsta of Love” while still striving for the moniker of “Maurice,” SEAN MICHAEL spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection, and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the Kama Sutra by channeling the long-lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to Chicago.

A longtime writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He’ll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.<
