She was the sexiest and most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Her hair was tousled and spilling over her slender shoulders, her eyes shone with her recent orgasm, and her cheeks were still flushed. She didn't bother wrapping herself in a sheet; she just sat cross-legged on the bed completely naked. He loved that she was not shy about her body in front of him.
Dorin raised his glass. “To you, Dr. Kennedy.”
Brooke smiled as she raised her glass too, and toasted. “To four more years of utter hell.” She meant her residency. He had heard the horror stories of new doctors going through the grueling four years it would take to complete their training. It would be rough on her, and even on him to watch her go through it. But she would make it, he had complete faith in her. In them.
He couldn't stop a laugh. “You'll be just fine. At least we'll both be close to work. And you'll always have me to come home to.”
“Promise?”
Dorin leaned over the bed, and opened the drawer to the nightstand. He pulled out the blue velvet ring box, and kept it hidden in his hand as much as possible.
“I promise. For the rest of our lives, I'll always be by your side.” He opened the box, and he turned it to face her. “Will you marry me?”
Brooke's hand immediately clapped over her mouth as she stared at the ring. Her eyes welled with tears as her cheeks flashed bright red. He held his breath for her reply. She nodded her head, and dropped her hand.
“Yes, Dorin, I will.” Her face bloomed into the most radiant smile he had ever seen as she launched herself across the space between them, her arms wrapping tight around his neck as she kissed him.
Dr. Brooke Kennedy-Milosovici. He liked how that sounded.
