I ran with her to see what the fuck was going on.
As we ran down the hallway to the front, I heard another voice and immediately went cold all over.
“My ex told me that you the nigga who knocked her up? She was with me when you fucked her, nigga. The kid I thought was my kid for the last seven years is yours, nigga. I’m ’bout to burn this shit down to the fuckin’ ground!” I heard Greg said.
“Greg!” I said in horror as I ran out to the front.
When we got to the reception area, the place was a disaster. Everyone who had been patiently waiting was standing around watching the fight in shock, except it wasn’t even really a fight. Greg was like a fucking wild animal, and Marcus was the prey. He was on top of Marcus and pummeling his face and body. I had never in my life seen him like this. Blood stained the cream tiles of the shop, and Tati, the receptionist was screaming as she held the phone up to her ear on the phone with the cops.
“Greg, stop!” I yelled as tears started to form in my eyes.
Marcus was fucked up. I couldn’t even make out his face because there was so much blood. It was everywhere. He wasn’t even moving, and I was pretty sure he was unconscious.
“Bitch ass nigga. My ex-bitch told me you fucked her in our bed when we were together. You think you ’bout to live, nigga?” Greg screamed.
That was news to me. Summer must have divulged that piece of information after I left the house. This was too much. The fact that Marcus was Summer’s ex, and Greg was about to kill his ass, I didn’t even know what to do.
“Get off him!” some big, black guy who had been watching stepped up and tried to wrestle Greg off Marcus.
He managed to pull him off Marcus’ limp body, and I had to cover my face. It was awful. Greg tried to fight the guy to let him go, but as he struggled, his gaze met mine, and he froze.
“Sade!” his voice boomed. He tried to struggle even more to get out of the big guy’s grip. “Sade!” he yelled again.
“Greg, what did you do? Look at him, what if you killed him?” I yelled.
I couldn’t believe how hysterical Greg was, and Marcus was legit on the floor not moving.
“You worried about this nigga? I’m comin’ for you and whichever nigga knocked you the fuck up next!” he yelled. “You were supposed to be my bitch, but you out here throwing my pussy at random niggas. You a slut just like Summer. Ima find you and your nigga. If I can’t have no kids, you not either, Sade. Believe that!”
Bo stepped up in front me, which was a good thing because I was shaking.
“Hold his ass till the cops get here. Dumb motherfucker,” Bo yelled at him.
I could hear the sirens in the distance, but I couldn’t keep my eyes off Marcus. He was still bleeding, but I couldn’t even see his chest moving. Greg had fucked him up.
“Let go of me!” Greg was fighting the big nigga again. Another guy had to jump in to hold him down.
It felt like a lifetime, but the cops ran in there a few minutes later. In seconds, Greg was on the ground, still struggling with the cops like he didn’t give a fuck about his life. Paramedics ran to Marcus, and all I could do was pray for him.
When they managed to handcuff Greg and pull him up to his feet, he looked over at me and grinned like a fucking psycho.
“Just wait, Sade. I’m comin’,” he said to me as they pulled him out the door.
I burst into tears as the paramedics left with Marcus, and Bo wrapped her arms around me.
“Oh my God, he’s lost his mind,” I cried.
The way he looked at me, I expected him to stay true to his promise. I couldn’t have this man hurt me, or my unborn, or Guwop. It wasn’t even something that I could begin to speak into existence.
“Let’s go. We don’t need to be here,” Bo said and gripped my hand then walked with me out of the shop.
I watched her as she dialed City, but the phone just rang. She called him a few more times, but he didn’t answer.
“Fuck,” she said and drummed her fingers on the steering wheel. Turning to me she said, “Let’s go to City’s house and stay there. They gonna lock Greg’s ass up, but who knows if they dumb enough to give his ass bail. We don’t need to be at my place because he knows where I live. When City and Guwop are done with what they need to do, we’ll let them know what’s going on and figure out what we should do.”
I nodded because I was so scared that I was shaking. I hoped to God Marcus wasn’t dead, although the way he looked, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he was. But, more than that, I needed Greg to leave me the fuck alone now. I had just found this happiness, and I would die if I lost it.

I stood in the park, still trying to wrap my mind around this shit with Lucas and Rigs. Lucas was a quiet ass nigga who kept to himself, so I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t know this shit about his personal life, but that was neither here nor there to me. The fact that Rigs was in my face right now talkin’ about he knew for a fact that Lucas was trying to set up beef between me and City off some dumb shit that didn’t even involve him had me pissed. Worse, the motherfucker stole from me. There was no coming back from that. It hurt me to know what I had to do today, but he left me no choice. He couldn’t come back from shit like this. There was no way.
I glanced down at my phone and saw that Sade was calling me. I hated leaving her unanswered, especially now that she was pregnant with my kid. I knew she was probably worried about this situation with me getting locked up, but I needed to handle this first before I talked to her. My mind was already fucked up about what I would have to do with Lucas, and I didn’t want any distractions. I just needed like twenty minutes.
Me and City had stepped off away from Rigs, so Lucas wouldn’t see us when he pulled up. But he was still in my line of vision, and I had no qualms about shooting his ass if he tried to run. The park was empty now anyway, and it was getting dark, so Lucas needed to hurry his ass up.
“This some shit,” City said beside me, and I shook my head.
“I ain’t never think we was comin’ here to hear what we just heard, man.”
“We been knowing him since we was kids. This is crazy,” City said, and I felt my stomach dip.
Just like that, a friend could turn into an enemy. That’s why I didn’t put anything past anyone.
“There he go,” City said.
I looked to the right and saw Lucas driving up in his Charger. Lucas jumped out and sauntered over to Rigs, who got up from his bench to meet him.
“Come on,” I said as I walked toward them.
Lucas didn’t see me at first, but when I got in his line of sight, he stopped walking. The happy smile he had on his face from seeing Rigs disappeared when he turned to look at me. And when he saw City, the surprise turned to fear.
“What’s good, Lucas? Word from your nigga is a whole lot more than dicks been coming out your mouth lately. You been runnin’ your mouth and got a lot to say, so I’m ready to hear that shit,” City said to him.
“City. G. What’s... um… what’s up? I been lookin’ for you, so we can talk about a couple things,” he said and took a step back.
I saw him look around like he was about to take off running.
“Aye, don’t go nowhere. What you steppin’ off for? We got shit to talk to you about too,” City said and got up right beside him, so he couldn’t bolt even if he wanted to. I knew Lucas was shittin’ bricks.
“We all in the same place now. You had a lot to say to me the other day at my crib about City. You sure you want to stick by that version you told me the other day?” I asked and pulled my gun out my waist. I wasn’t trying to be out there all evening, and I was already sick from the fact that I was about to do this shit.
“Woah, wait a second,” Lucas said. He put his hands up and stepped back. “What you pullin’ out a weapon for, G? We boys, right?”
“Nah, you see the way that shit works is, my real day one nigga would never lie on my partna or steal money
from me. So, you ain’t shit to me right now, bruh. But Ima give you a minute, so you can say what you gotta say and get shit off your chest. The clock is tickin’.”
His eyes widened when I said that, and he frantically looked between me and City frantically.
“How y’all know I was comin’?” he asked instead. I guess he figured there was nothing he could say that I would believe at this point.
“Your boyfriend sang like a bitch,” City said and chuckled.
Lucas turned his head fast to look at Rigs. The pain of betrayal covered his whole face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think it was gonna go like this,” Rigs said.
“Nigga, you said you loved me. How you gon’ sell me out and tell them what I did. What we fuckin’ did? How you gon’ do me like this?” Lucas yelled.
His voice broke, and Rigs reached out for him, but he hit his arm away. Lucas had an angry look of betrayal in his eyes, and I could see his bottom lip shaking as he looked at Rigs for the last time.
“Ay, cut that shit,” Lucas said. “I’m not gonna go out like no fuckin’ punk.” He turned back to look dead at City then reached into his back pocket.
I let my gun off twice and the bullets hit him straight in the forehead just as he pulled his gun out.
“No!” Rigs screamed as Lucas’ body hit the ground.
He ran over and fell on top of his body, trying to pull him up. Lucas’ eyes were staring up at heaven. The nigga was dead.
“You ain’t have to kill him!” Rigs screamed and looked back up at me as he cried. “What the fuck did I do? I’m sorry Lucas, fuck! What the fuck did I do?”
“Not enough, cuz we ain’t done with you, bruh,” City said then reached down and pulled him off Lucas’ lifeless body.
“No, we’re done. We said if I got him here for you, both of you would leave me and my mother alone,” he said defiantly with spit starting to gather in the creases of his mouth.
“Nigga, you said that shit. I ain’t agree. Get the fuck up. Where your mama at?” City snarled at him.
“She’s back at my house waiting for me. What are you gonna do?”
“I just gotta talk to her,” City answered.
I was ready to get this shit done too, so I started walking toward the car.
“No, please. Please, I gave you what I had. I’ll even tell you where Lucas put the money. If I tell you, will you just let us go?” Rigs begged.
“Where he put my money?” I asked, turning back and getting in his face.
He flinched. “It’s in the trunk of the Corolla he parks outside his house and barely drives.”
I kissed my teeth at this dumb motherfucker. If he wasn’t dead already, I would’ve killed him again for leaving my shit in a car parked on the street.
“Walk!” City yelled behind Rigs.
“I told you what you wanted. You need to let me go!” Rigs yelled back.
“I ain’t tell you I was gonna do all that. You keep assuming, nigga, and that’s your problem. We still takin’ this ride,” City said then opened the passenger side car door and pushed Rigs in it.
I hopped into my car and drove behind them toward Rigs’ mothers house. I’d bodied a couple of people over the years, but this was definitely the hardest one. I never thought I would have to kill my own fucking friend. We were driving down the highway, and I was anxious to get this done, so I could get at Sade. My head was pounding, and I was stressed the fuck out.
Suddenly, the passenger door of City’s car flew open, and Riggs jumped out. I swerved as Rigs rolled across a lane, narrowly missing the wheels of a red Honda in the other lane.
“What the fuck!” I yelled as I looked in the rearview mirror.
City had swerved to the right shoulder and was pulling over, so I did the same. But just as I pulled over, the blare of a loud ass horn made me look behind me.
“Oh shit!” I yelled as I watched a semi plow straight into Rigs, who was trying to run across the busy highway.
His body flew up in the air and landed on the left shoulder where it rolled for a minute and stopped.
City had jumped out his car and watched like me in shock. Ain’t no way he survived that. My mouth was dry as I processed what the fuck I just saw.
“We gotta go,” I said and turned to City. He looked at me and nodded. I knew he was in shock too.
“That shit happened so fucking fast. I didn’t even see him reaching for the door till it was too late.”
“Ain’t nothin’ to do about it now. We gotta go,” I said and looked back over at Rigs’ body where a crowd was starting to gather.
“We still goin’ to his mom’s house?”
City shook his head. “Nah. I gotta go tell Pops before he sees this shit on the news.”
“Aight. Let’s go,” I said as I walked back to my car.
The highway was starting to back up with cars, and I heard the sound of sirens coming down. Putting my car in drive, I rolled back onto the lane and drove away with City right behind me.

Sade and I were at City’s house, and I could tell she was still visibly shaken, but I didn’t blame her. What we saw at the shop today was something I knew I would never un-see. The way Greg beat Marcus to a pulp, I didn’t know if he was dead or alive. I had never seen Greg like that, and Sade said she hadn’t either. I couldn’t lie, I was a little scared about what this man might do when he saw Sade again. I just hoped and prayed that the cops would keep him locked up long enough for us to figure out what the fuck we were gonna do.
Sade had fallen asleep on the couch beside me as I had the news on in the background, but I wasn’t even paying attention to it. They were saying something about an accident that shut down the highway. Some crazy person had jumped out of a car and was killed by a semi. I looked at my phone and bit my bottom lip. It was getting late, and I really wished City was home already. When I heard the front door unlock, I got up and walked to the front.
City walked in with Guwop behind him.
“Hey,” I said then walked up and hugged him.
He hugged me back without saying anything. I leaned back and looked at him. He looked like he had the world on his shoulders.
“What happened?”
“Rigs is dead.”
I stepped back because I didn’t think I heard him right. “What? How?”
“It’s been on the news. He was with me and jumped out the car on the highway,” he explained.
“Oh my God!” my hand flew up to my mouth.
I knew City and his half-brother weren’t close but hearing that this had happened was horrific.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good. I just came from tellin’ Pops. He’s not okay, though. He took it real hard. That bitch nigga was his son at the end of the day, so he’s torn up about it. I feel like this shit is my fault since the nigga was with me. He was trying to get away from me. I couldn’t even tell my pops all that.”
I wrapped my arms around his waist and pressed my head on his chest. I felt awful for him. I didn’t even want to bring up what happened in the shop now, even though I was sure he knew.
“Where’s Sade?” Guwop asked then walked past us and to the living room.
“She’s on the couch.”
“I heard what happened in my shop. Tati called me,” City said, looking down at me.
“Yeah. Does Guwop know? What are we going to do?”
“Ima handle that shit. Marcus is in intensive care right now. He’s alive, but they not tellin’ me too much. That nigga beat him up pretty bad,” City explained.
I breathed a small sigh of relief upon hearing that Marcus was alive. Somebody had to deal with Greg.
“I’m out,” Guwop said as he walked back holding Sade’s hand. She looked half asleep, but she was leaning against G.
“See you tomorrow, sis.” I gave her a half hug, and she nodded. “You okay?”
“Yeah.”
I gave her a small smile and loc
ked the door after them.
“She’s scared of what Greg might do. He was a beast today, City. I don’t even know what to tell her to make her feel safe.”
“She’s with G. She’s good. We not about to let no fuck nigga come ’round and mess with y’all. You already know that shit,” City said and grinded his teeth together.
“Come on, babe. It’s late. We’ll worry about this tomorrow.”
I held his hand, and we walked up the stairs to his bedroom. I was happy that he was finally home. A lot had happened today that I probably would never find out about. To be honest, I didn’t really want to know. The way I saw it, the less I knew, the better. Plausible deniability.
I sat on the bed and watched City peel his shirt off over his head. I couldn’t help biting my bottom lip as I watched him. The definition of his chest, the tattoos on his torso and arms, and the way his jeans hung low on his hips made my pussy do jumping jacks. My eyes went back up to his face, and he was watching me watch him.
He smirked. “I’m ’bout to take a shower.”
“K, babe.”
“You comin’ in with me?”
The way he was looking at me, there was no chance that I would say no. I pulled my shirt over my head and shimmied out of my pants as I watched him walk over to the bathroom. When I got inside the bathroom, he was already in the shower with the water on. I loved his shower. It could fit at least four people. It was big, and the shower head pulsated and had different settings. I got in behind him and the warm water started to hit me. He turned around and started kissing my neck.
“You ridin’ with me, Bo?” he asked as his lips trailed down my neck and across to my shoulders.
“Yes, babe,” I managed to say.
“Fuck them other bitches?”
“Uh huh.”
“Me and you, right?”
“I got you, City. It’s me and you,” I promised, and I meant it.
When I was with him, I felt like I was supposed to be right there; like there was nowhere else I wanted to be. His lips made their way back up to mine, and in a second, his tongue was in my mouth. I kissed passionately kissed him back, and I felt his hands making their way down to my ass. He squeezed, and I moaned. I felt his dick bricking up and poking against my leg. Dropping to my knees while the warm water fell all around me, I grabbed it and kissed the head.
