Joyce Gregory was wanted for the murder of five men she had befriended, flirted with and invited back to whatever apartment she lived in at the time. She then killed each one of them. A female serial killer.

Beth Carter had been Europe’s most wanted hacker for the last three years. She had hacked into top security sites and sold the information contained to terrorist organisations, resulting in the deaths of many men and women.

Matilda Watkins, that kind little old lady, had once been the mother of five children, the youngest of them being David. You see David had never helped anybody leave Bristol, she had locked him in his room, beaten and poisoned him, like she had done with his four elder siblings.

Natalie and Imogen, who were the last two people to be rescued from Brighton, had been on the run from the IGS for a year after they had planted bombs killing many English soldiers. They were Scottish sympathisers and had been recruited to work undercover in England.

Selina Montgomery was never mentioned to me, until I saw the list and it was then I started to piece together what was happening. I had noticed the name badge of The Commander back in my boss’ office and as soon as I saw her name I put two-and-two together to come up with the answer.

Jesse was just a victim of being the child of two people who were hell bent on increasing the devastation of the war. Duncan and Maria were fighting the good fight, but their daughter did not deserve to be punished for their decision. That is why I could not let a child be handed over to the authorities to be killed.

I knew every single person, with the exception of Selina would die, but with their backgrounds and the fact my family were safe I put to bed any doubts I had.

Jackson and Lizzie were never part of the plan, but on our journey they had become friends and I knew I had to try something to save their lives. As they were not part of the deal they too would have been killed. I only came up with the Selina plan on our journey to Brighton. I wasn’t even sure if it would work; a massive gamble.

I explained all of this to Rebecca, Jackson and Lizzie. They were in shock for quite a while but once the information settled into their heads they understood everything I had done.

I had also made contact with a private charter boat, using the radio Jackson found. The reason it stopped working was because it blew when I was using it one night, secretly. I did not know how to fix it until Beth came along. I was a bit nervous in case the boat captain tried to radio back, but he never did.

Now we all live in peace on The Rock, otherwise known as Gibraltar. There is no infection, no war and no curfews. It is like life was before.

I can watch Amelia and Jesse grow up in safety. I have my wife back. Jackson and Lizzie both took jobs at the border, helping to screen those coming in from England.

Jackson was listed as my brother on the immigration forms, Lizzie as my sister-in-law, Rebecca’s sister and Jesse was included as our child. That way, under the new laws of Gibraltar, families could not be separated and those with no ties could not be sent back to continue fighting the war.

  Peace now fills our world.

Through everything we encountered and all of the dark times that troubled us, surviving was the only hope we had left.
