Analysis:
This story is a metaphor to war in general, with the loss involved and how many youth are eager for it without knowing the implications it carries. Specifically, this is supposed to model World War Two. It has a large amount of symbolism, one being the different phases of the moon that come to reveal Kichner’s path to enlightenment. The other, which is very obscure, is that this story revolves around ants. These are not people or aliens, simple ants. This is supposed to also show the universality of loss and death.
