Blood of Brekkon (The Complex Book 0) Page 9

by Kristen Middleton

Brekkon arched his eyebrow. “Just… well?”

I was about to tell him that it was the best I’d ever had when he pulled me down onto his lap. Burying his fingers into my hair, he pulled my face to his and claimed my lips in a hot, searing kiss.

I sighed in pleasure and slid my arms around his neck, kissing him back. Encouraged, he thrust his tongue into my mouth and began exploring while I slid my hand over his chest, enjoying the way his muscles felt under my skin. Soon his lips were on my neck, giving me goosebumps.

“You smell like honey,” he whispered against my skin, his kisses making my nipples hard.

Closing my eyes, I threw my head back, and when he touched my breast for the first time, I moaned.

“I’m sorry,” he said, pulling his hand away.

I grabbed it and put it back. “Please, keep touching me,” I whispered.

Groaning, he squeezed them through the fabric and when that wasn’t enough, he slid his hand under my shirt.

“You’re so soft,” he murmured, touching and caressing one and then the other.

Dizzy with desire, I rocked against his lap.

He sucked in his breath and groaned again. “Natalya,” he said in a husky voice. “We shouldn’t be doing this.”

“We haven’t done anything yet,” I whispered, turning so I was straddling him on the chair. I knew he was right, but my body was on fire and nothing else seemed to matter at the moment.

Panting, Brekkon raised my top and I felt his warm, wet tongue on my nipples.

I moaned as he squeezed and licked his way around my breasts, sending hot ripples of desire all throughout my body.

“One of us needs to stop this now. Tell me, and I will,” he growled, grinding his pelvis against mine. “But, you’d better do it quickly.”

In answer, I slid my hands under his shirt, marveling at the hard planes of his muscular chest and smooth skin. I knew what we were doing was wrong, and yet, I didn’t want to stop. My hand dipped lower and I touched the hard outline of his manhood.

Brekkon gasped and then stood up with me in his arms. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he carried me out of the kitchen, toward the bedroom. Our mouths met again and his tongue thrust into mine hungrily, my lips already bruising from the hardness of his kisses.

  Chapter 23

  Brekkon

I was out of control and knew it, but didn’t care anymore. I wanted Natalya in every way and could barely contain my excitement. I’d never kissed or fondled anyone’s breasts, not even a Dragon-shifter’s, and the pleasure it seemed to be giving both of us was almost enough to send me over the edge. Then, when her hand touched my manhood, I was ready to throw all my money at Javich. He was about to win the bet and for the first time in my life, I was happy to lose.

I carried Natalya into her bedroom and laid her down on the mattress. Not knowing exactly what to do next, I got on top of her and began kissing her lips again. She wrapped her legs around my waist and soon, I was making love to her through our clothing. She made little mewling noises and it drove me crazy. Realizing that I was about to have an orgasm, I stopped and caught my breath.

“I’m sorry,” I said, looking down into her eyes. “I want to take it slow, but everything seems to be happening so fast. Obviously, I’ve never done this before.”

“Neither have I,” she replied softly.

Knowing that I would be her first made me want her even more. I wondered if it was the Dragon side of me and the need to claim that treasure, or just old fashioned lust.

“We can stop,” I whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes.

“I don’t want to,” Natalya said shyly.

Her words set me on fire. I began kissing her again and this time, I slowly slid my hand down her stomach, to the waistband of her pants. I could feel her trembling beneath me and knew she was just as excited.

“Can I?” I asked, aching to feel what was hidden underneath.

  “Yes,” she said breathlessly.

I slid my fingers under the material and was greeted by soft curls and a velvety treasure box. Excited, I began exploring her wet folds, my own desire building as I imagined burying myself inside of her. Natalya squealed and then squirmed against my hand, gasping and moaning.

“I’m sorry, did I hurt you?” I asked, stopping.

“No,” she murmured and then urged me to keep going.

I began touching her again and could tell that she was in some kind of wild frenzy of her own. Suddenly, she grabbed hold of my shoulder and began digging her nails into my skin, telling me not to stop. A few seconds later, she cried out, her face twisting with desire and relief. Realizing what had happened almost drove me over the edge. I couldn’t wait any longer and needed to be inside of her. My hands shook as I began removing my pants, the anticipation of what was to happen next making it hard to concentrate. As I was about to kick them away, someone began pounding on the front door.

I swore and Natalya sat up quickly.

“Are you expecting someone?” I asked, wanting to throttle whoever was interrupting us.

She pulled her pants back up and quickly got out of bed. “No. But it could be my sister.”

Watching her rush out of the bedroom, I quickly put my clothing back on and followed her.

“Natalya? Hurry. Open the door,” called a woman’s voice. “I know you’re in there.”

Natalya’s face turned white and when she looked at me, I knew something was very wrong.

“Dammit, you need to let me in. Now.”

It was then that I recognized the voice. Angry, I walked around Natalya and threw open the door.

“Oh, shit,” said Cleo, looking from Natalya and then back to me.

  Chapter 23

  Natalya

Brekkon’s face was red with rage. I couldn’t blame him for being mad, but it still scared the hell out of me.

“So, you didn’t know Cleo?” he snapped, glaring at me.

“I… Okay. We’ve met,” I replied, taking a step back. He looked so angry that I knew it didn’t matter what had just happened between us. I’d lied and he was feeling betrayed.

“And you,” he growled at Cleo. “I bet you’re the informant. The one who contacted Talon.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” said Cleo with a brittle smile. “I’m here for medical purposes. She’s a Healer, after all.”

Brekkon folded his arms across his chest, obviously not believing her. “The clinic is open. Why are you making house calls?”

“I don’t have time for this,” grumbled Cleo. “And I certainly don’t need attitude from a Dragon-shifter. I’ll go and get help elsewhere.”

Before she could leave, Brekkon grabbed her arm. “You’re not going anywhere until you start talking. I already know you tried stealing blood from Javich.” He looked at me and his eyes narrowed. “And you… with the lies. What kind of games are you two playing?”

“Unhand me,” said Cleo shrilly. “Or, I’ll call Intra.”

“Yeah, why don’t you do that,” he replied, releasing her arm. “I’m sure they’ll want to know about your dealings with Talon and the fact that you tried stealing blood from Javich.”

“You’re crazy,” she replied, looking back at us over her shoulder before storming away.

He slammed the door shut and turned on me. “You’d better start talking.”

“Listen, Brekkon,” I said, my eyes filling with tears. “I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I swear to God.”

“So, you were involved,” he replied, staring at me with disgust.

I nodded. “But, I only did it for my sister. She’s suffering from a horrible skin disease and—”

“Save your lies and excuses for someone gullible,” he snarled. “You’ve been lying to me from the beginning, Natalya. You knew all along about Cleo and never said one damn word.”

I began to panic. I knew he was going to leave and that my sister would be the one who’d suffer in t
he end. If I’d have only listened to her in the first place. “I’m sorry. I tried stopping her from—”

“It doesn’t matter!” he hollered, opening up the door. “Our business here is through.”

“But, we made a deal,” I begged. “Brekkon, please, don’t go.”

He looked back at me. “I don’t deal with traitors, Natalya. And from now on, I only deal with the kind of Metas I trust. Dragons.”

  Then he was gone.

  Chapter 24

  Brekkon

I was so furious, I stormed down to the courtyard, undressed, and shifted into Dragon form. I spent the next hour trying to work off my rage by flying and even starting a few things on fire, which didn’t help much. Although I’d met many liars and deceivers in my time, none of them affected me the way she had. She’d played me for a fool, just like Cleo had done to Javich. The worst thing was, I’d actually begun to feel something toward her.

Sometime later, I changed back to my human form, my mood still foul. Hungry and needing a stiff drink, I called Javich and told him to meet me down by the zipper station.

“Uh oh. From your expression, I take it things didn’t go down well?” asked Javich, when he saw me.

“You could say that.” As we waited for an available zipper, I told him what had happened, leaving out the intimate parts.

“So, those two were working together all along?” he replied with an angry scowl.

  “Apparently.”

He rubbed the side of his face. “She didn’t get any blood from you, did she?”

  “No.”

“We should report them to the AS.”

“I thought about it, but what good would it do?”

“They’d get kicked out of the Complex. Probably go to jail.”

As angry as I was, I only wanted to forget all about Natalya and Cleo and move on. “Screw them. Let’s put this behind us.”

  “What if they try again?”

I thought about how frightened Natalya had looked when I’d confronted her. Something told me that she wouldn’t be a problem.

“If they do, we’ll deal with it. But, to be honest, I think they’ll stay away now,” I replied when we stepped onto one of the zippers.

  “Let’s hope you’re right.”

We found a tavern, in the middle of the city, and ordered some food and wine. There was a live band playing some kind of annoying techno beat. I didn’t care much for the music, but knew Javich did, so I agreed to stay. When the waitress left, I noticed Javich and her making eyes at each other.

“Don’t you ever learn?” I muttered, sitting back in the chair.

“Not every female here is out to get us, Brekkon,” he replied, tapping his fingers on the table to the music. “Besides, the waitress is Human.” He winked and smiled at her. “And a mighty pretty one at that.”

I shook my head in disdain. He was incorrigible when it came to females.

“You know what you need?” he said, looking back at me. “To get laid. It will take your mind off of today.”

If he only knew. I’d almost done just that and it had made everything worse. Even now I couldn’t get the image of Natalya out of my head, and as furious as I was, I still wanted her.

“Not going to answer, huh?” he said with a sly smile. “That could mean one of two things—you know I’m right, or you already got laid.”

“I don’t want to talk about this anymore. You’re obsessed with this nonsense and I don’t want anything to do with it or the women on this planet, Meta or Human.”

“Fine,” he said. “Then at least let’s get you drunk, because you’re no fun to be around right now, my friend.”

“I concur,” I replied as the waitress set down our wine.

“Is there anything else I can get you while you wait for the food?” she asked, batting her eyelashes at Javich.

“Darlin’, there definitely is but it’s not on the menu,” he said with a wicked grin.

“Don’t let that stop you,” she replied, smiling back.

“He and I are both good,” I said firmly, my patience exhausted. “Thank you.”

She gave me a frosty smile and left.

Javich chuckled. “Damn, you’re a cold bastard.”

“Can you blame me? The females here are bad news. You need to get that through your skull.”

He gave me a thoughtful look. “We’ve been through situations before. Bad ones. I’ve never seen you this bitter, though.”

I poured the wine into our cups. “I’m not bitter, I’m pissed off.”

He sighed. “You really liked her, didn’t you?”

I looked at him but couldn’t deny it.

He grinned. “You did. I can’t say that I blame you. She’s gorgeous.”

  “She’s also a liar and a thief.”

“And what would you say of one who owes a shitload of money and then skips town after promising to pay it back?” he asked,

“This is different,” I grumbled, clenching the cup tightly in my hand.

“Yes but it was still deceitful.”

  He had me there.

“What was her reasoning for wanting the blood anyway?”

“I don’t know. She claimed it was for her sister and some skin affliction. I saw her sister last night and she looked fine to me,” I said, although it had been dark and she’d been wearing a robe.

“The lies keep stacking up,” he replied.

“Damn right they do. My guess is that she’s turning around and selling Dragon’s blood for profit,” I answered.

“Too bad we have no proof.”

“Yep. Too bad.” I took another drink of wine, enjoying the warmth it was giving me. “You know, let’s not talk about Natalya anymore. It’s been one hell of a day.”

“No problem. I won’t mention her again,” he replied, staring past me. “My, my. What do we have here?”

I looked over my shoulder and noticed a young woman walking toward us with a determined look on her face. She was beautiful, with jet black hair and sparkling blue eyes. As the woman drew closer, I recognized her. I also noticed the enflamed scales running along her arms and neck. My stomach suddenly felt sour.

“Hello,” she said, after stopping at our table. “My name is Ria Phron and… we need to talk.”

  Chapter 25

  Natalya

After Brekkon left, I was riddled with guilt. I was also sickened by the fact that Ria wouldn’t be healed anytime soon. With my head hung low, I went to her apartment and told her what had happened.

“Can you blame him?” she asked. “I told you that you should have been honest all along. You’re lucky he didn’t turn you in.”

“I know,” I answered, feeling ill about the entire situation.

  “So, what now?”

  “I’ll think of something.”

“I should go and talk to him,” she replied, biting her lower lip.

I smiled grimly. “Believe me, it won’t help. I tried telling him about you and he didn’t want to hear it.”

“He probably thought you were lying or didn’t care anymore.” She sighed. “Well, I have to do something about this. The salve hardly helps anymore and I’m pretty sure that I will be completely covered with scales by the time I wake up tomorrow.”

Looking at her, I knew she was right. They were covering two-thirds of her body already. “I’m going to find Oscow and talk to him. He might have some ideas.”

She looked relieved. “Okay. No more lies, right? Not to anyone.”

  “No more,” I mumbled.

She began scratching her arms again. “I’m going to take another bath. It seems to give me the most relief.”

“Okay.” I walked over and gave her a hug, wishing that I’d had listened to her in the first place. Especially knowing that Brekkon had been willing to negotiate. But, who would have known that he’d have been so compliant and willing to sell his own bodily fluids.

“Talk about ‘blood money’,” I mut
tered, thinking out loud.

She smirked. “Yes, the irony of it all.”

I let out a ragged sigh and stared at her square in the eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll do whatever it takes to help you overcome this.”

“I know. That’s what frightens me,” she replied, her eyes searching mine.

  ***

When I tried contacting Oscow, he wasn’t available to talk, so I left him a message. I then paced around my apartment, trying to come up with another plan, but it all seemed so hopeless. And then Cleo called me.

“Look, I know you’re angry,” she said, talking quickly. “And you have every right to be—”

“Why in the hell did you show up here?” I asked. “If you hadn’t, everything would have worked out. Everything.”

“Well, it wasn’t as if I expected him to be inside your apartment,” she said. “That was the last place I expected him to be.”

I sighed. Being angry with her wasn’t helping. If it was anyone’s fault, it was mine. All of it.

“I know. You’re right. Everything happened so fast.” I then explained to her why he’d been over.

“A deal, huh? Damn, if we’d have known that Brekkon was so greedy, we could have saved a lot of time and energy on this. So, did you get any of his blood?”

  “No,” I replied miserably.

She stared at me with a funny expression. “You know, the two of you looked like you’d just rolled out of bed.”

I was about to lie to her but then I remembered the promise I’d made to Ria. No more of them. Taking a deep breath, I admitted that we’d been fooling around.

“I knew it,” she said, scowling. “Talk about a hypocrite. That prick.”

  “What do you mean?”

“He told me he was engaged to someone on his own planet and would never fool around on her.”

Her words made my stomach twist with jealousy. “He’s engaged?”

“That’s what he told me, but who really knows. The fact is it’s only been day two on this planet and he was in your bed,” she scoffed. “Either he’s cheating on his fiancée or never had one.”
