His chuckle stirred strands of her hair and her scent filled his head. “We did some mighty good lovin’ a few minutes ago. Just give me a few more minutes.” He nipped at her ear.

  “Softy,” she mumbled.

He nipped at her ear. “You’re going to regret saying I’m a softy. I’ll see to it.”

Lacey stared into Hunter’s eyes. Her heart swelled with love for this passionate, kind man who was her husband. “I certainly hope so,” she said as her fingers outlined his handsome face.

He kissed the spot where her heart pounded with love for him. “I love you.” Then he asked, “You are sure you want children right away?”

“Yes, I want to have our child to hold in my arms.”

“Then we’ll do our best on this honeymoon to make a baby,” he said with a wide grin on his face.

  Three Months Later

They’d waited until all the family had gathered around the dining room table for Sunday dinner. Hunter squeezed Lacey’s hand and whispered, “Shall we tell them now?”

“In a moment, after they’ve eaten some food.” She took a bite of the roast beef and mashed potatoes and listened to the conversation flowing around the table.

Hunter’s and Billy’s campaigns were going well. She’d taken over Hunter’s, too. Lacey grinned, remembering the look Magdalena had given her when Hunter paid her and told her Lacey would be taking over his campaign. The woman had definitely had designs on Hunter.

“What do you think, Lacey?” Mom Garrison asked.

  “I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.”

“You’ve looked distracted all morning.” She glanced at Hunter and Lacey. “I hope nothing is wrong.” Her brow furrowed.

“Can I tell them now?” Hunter said. “I’m about to explode.” The others at the table looked at them questioningly.

Lacey grinned. “Okay, tell them our secret.”

“Lacey and I are going to have a baby in about six months.”

His mom jumped up and ran around the table to hug them. Tears were in her eyes. “My first grandchild, I’m so happy.”

Mr. Garrison followed her, hugged Lacey, and patted Hunter on the shoulder. “Congratulations.”

Everyone was grinning. “Thanks for taking the pressure off of us,” Cort said, and gave his brother the thumbs-up.

“This does not mean I will quit fussing at you all to find a wife. It’s time,” his mother said. She grinned at her family. “But this is a start.”

Heath, who was home for a week, said, “My cabin must be a potent place. Maybe I’d better avoid it for the next few years.”

“Maybe you should,” Lacey agreed. “It is magical, but I think the magic only works for couples who truly love each other.”

  “Well put, sis,” Josie said.

Later in the family room after all the hugs and congratulations, they sat around quietly talking.

Mrs. Garrison looked at each of her sons. Lacey watched and smiled. She was almost sure what their mom was going to say.

“Let me see, I’m trying to decide which of you will be next?”

Cort and Devin both jumped up. “We have to leave,” Devin said, “before you put your evil eye on us. I’ve promised to help Cort with a chore.” He pushed Cort toward the doorway.

His mom laughed. “It doesn’t matter how far you run,” she warned him, “my evil eye will find you.”

Cort and Devin rushed out of the room as the laughter followed them. Lacey smiled and held tight to Hunter’s hand. Her heart was full of love for Hunter and his wonderful family. Moving back to Pleasure Valley had been the smartest decision she’d ever made.
