Maddie Winslow had tried to convince her that she wasn’t worthy to be Gabe’s wife and that he would regret marrying her. Those had all been lies inflicted on Rory because Maddie was jealous.
She saw that clearly now.
Gabe really did love her.
He didn’t feel sorry for her. He setup security around the Island to keep her safe and helped her expand her skin care products, all because he loved her. He’d risked his life to save her from Aunt Mal’s cruelty, all because he loved her.
Now Gabe and his family had become her own. Rory truly belonged to a bigger family again. For such a long time she’d felt lonely and abandoned since her parents died, and she believed things would never change.
Becoming Gabe’s wife had changed everything for her. It was the best feeling in the world.
Her heart overflowed with gratitude.
Gabe ended the kiss his blue eyes glowing with tenderness.
“I have a surprise for you.”
“What is it?”
“Since the fire we only hired people to clean up and board up that side of the house. But I thought since our family is growing we could hire a restorative team to expand and restore Grand’s old Hunting Lodge.”
Rory smiled. “I would love that. What a great surprise.”
“Well, we need to get that house fixed up like new so we can have more children.” Her husband chuckled, his eyes crinkling with playfulness.
“You are so right. What a great plan.” Her eyes glimmered brightly with love and she reached up to kiss his cheek.
“You’ve taught me how important it is to feel the love of family.” He kissed her forehead and they turned to watch the sunlight glistening on the water.
“Near this tree by this little bay is the same spot I saw you one year ago.” Rory grinned as she remembered. “I was a wet, soggy mess and a little rude to you.”
“We both need to grow beyond our mistaken beliefs and fears.” Gabe tilted her chin up with gentle fingers looking deep into her eyes. “When I made that marriage promise years ago was the best decision I ever made because it brought me to you.”
He kissed her lips tenderly. “I love you so much Rory.”
At his words, a lone tear escaped and slid down her cheek. She knew she would never get tired of hearing her husband say those words.
“I love you too.”
