Leopard at the Door Page 34

by Jennifer McVeigh

My thanks and love go to my father and Jenny, who first took me to Kenya on that wild and extraordinary journey—the one which lit the fire and so nearly ended in disaster. And to Sveva—who had Dave and I to stay and who looked after us so well. I am grateful to my late father-in-law, Lee Harragin, who described so clearly life in Kenya in the 1950s and his work defending Mau Mau detainees; to Ron Stanfield, for his description and photographs of the Uplands Bacon Factory; to Nick and Vinnie Day, who offered valuable insight; to Jenny McPhee and Alba Arikha, who gave me confidence when I needed it most; and to Kirsty Gordon, who unfailingly helps me to see my writing more clearly.

Most importantly, thank you to Dave, Alice, Daisy and Tommy Lee. You are the best.
