Until he got some of his senses back, all that could be done for the old man was to confine him to a bed in a sanatorium. Since he obviously wasn’t the English man whose papers he’d had, the British Embassy declined to do any more.
He just lay helpless and disconnected from the world around him. Weeping all day long and seeming to only find morsels of comfort at night.
Whatever happened to that young man and to Frau Kurten, and just who this strange old man with the broken mind was, are mysteries which remain open.
Mysteries that could almost have come from an old horror story.
