Demon Hunters Do It Better…
Book One
“AVA”
I cannot tell you exactly when it started, but I can sure as hell tell you when it ended. It ended when I realized that life is too fucking short and you have to take what is presented to you, or at least you SHOULD take it, bite it…wrap your hands around fates throat and give that bitch a what for. I mean why not? What is stopping you and me from taking the leap into the unknown and start depending on what you know in your heart you CAN do…and with that realization, my story began…or should I say, my real life started…finally...

“Bitch, I am not going to ask again.”
I looked up at Sal and sighed; he is the ugliest man in the world and has a mouth as ugly as his hairy ass.
“Where the fuck are my eggs?” I asked him and he slammed the plate down and I looked at the mess and raised my eyebrows.
“You know you cook like shit,” I said and he dinged the bell on the counter with his hash flipper and I flinched and picked up three plates and placed them on my tray. I glanced down the counter and saw Monica leaning over and flirting with yet another anonymous man and I cleared my throat. She ignored me and I walked up to her and bumped her with my hip and she rolled her eyes and looked at me, cocking back and placing her hand on her hip, staring me down like some nuisance.
“Monica, I hate to bother you…but we are fucking working and I cannot serve every god damn table in here.”
She glanced at the well-dressed man and then back to me.
“Whateve...” she said and I hate that, I hate that she tries to sound like she is in high school when she is 25 and has a 3 year old at home, by fucking who... I have no idea.
I waited for her to help me as she should and the man reached out to her and touched her hand. I looked down and rolled my eyes. I then looked at the man and grinned.
“Listen, I get it…you want some pussy, but could you possibly wait until we get past the lunch rush?”
Monica made a noise of disgust and he actually smiled at me, which was not my intention. I could give two shits less if he thinks I am clever or not.
“When is your break baby?” he said and I looked at Monica and raised my eyebrows as I shoved the tray into her hands and walked away, needing a break…mainly a cigarette. So I slipped my apron off as Sal tried to call out to me and left it on the counter. I headed to the back of the diner and slipped out the service entrance and stepped out into the alleyway that smells like shit on shit, roasted with shitnuts. I pulled my cigarettes out and lit one, tilting my head and sucking that toxic smoke deep into my lungs, I held it and then let it slowly roll out my mouth and heard a voice to my right and turned quickly to see who and why.
“Those will kill you,” the figure said and I narrowed my eyes and tried to see who he was. He then stepped out and I stood up straight, as I looked him over.
Now, I am not a girl who normally gets weird about men, or women for that matter. I find myself attracted to both occasionally, but for the last 6 months I have found myself in a drought of sorts. By that I mean…no fucking, none and I have no idea why. In fact I have probably helped the battery industry out as I have gone through more than needed on my new friend, that of a fabulous dildo with rabbit ears on it…and that thing is just, well, it fucking rocks. No conversation needed and the thing makes me come every single time, so what’s to complain about?
But…as this man stepped towards me I noticed his lips first, full and soft looking and then his jaw line, which seemed a bit too perfect and then his hair…nice and black and just long enough to hang in his face, making him look even hotter, the rabbit disappeared from my recent memory. He stopped about three feet in front of me and I took another drag from my cigarette and he watched me, studying my lips too and watching me suck on it. I shifted my weight to my other foot and shrugged my shoulders, trying to back off of just how hot I thought he was.
“I know they will kill me, who says I am looking to stick around that long anyway?” I said and he grinned and pulled a cigarette out too and lit it up, and it was then that I knew he was just using the topic to talk to me and was not one of those people who felt it necessary to bitch at people for smoking. He smiled and flipped his cigarette in his fingers quickly, facing the black butt of it towards me.
“Suck on that,” he said quietly and I looked down and grinned, letting my mind go straight to dirty thoughts and then I took it and placed it to my lips and he stepped towards me and watched my lips as they made contact with his cigarette. I immediately tasted the sweet flavor on my lips and then let the smooth smoke fill my mouth and sucked it in. He watched me with more intent than I expected and I closed my eyes and let the smoke out slowly.
I immediately felt a slight tingling in my chest and my head became lighter, I swayed on my feet and he touched my arm and I opened my eyes and grinned at him.
“What the hell is this?” I asked him as a slow but deliberate feeling of pleasure rolled through me.
“I make them myself, they contain a poison of sorts,” he said as he watched my face.
I dropped his cigarette and stepped back from him.
“What the fuck?” I asked him and he tilted his head and grinned as he pulled out another one.
“Yes, it will not kill you…it just brings on a sense of calm and pleasure,” he tapped the cigarette on his silver box that held them and I crossed my arms on my chest.
“So it’s a drug,” I said as I started to walk towards the back door of the diner.
“Isn’t everything a drug?” he asked me and I rolled my eyes and stepped into the diner to immediately be met by Sal with a nasty looking cleaver in his hand.
“Lunches are scheduled, and your lunch is not for an hour,” he said.
I sighed.
“Listen, I smoke, I needed a...”
“You are gonna need a new job if you don’t knock off the free loading shit Ava.”
I stared at him for a moment and he left me there. I rubbed my chest and hoped the stupid “poison” I had sucked in would just fade. I may be a smoker, but I am not a drug addict and that asshole pissed me off.
The rest of my shift sucked as usual and finally closing time rolled around and the last of the customers left us and I started to clean up the bar. Sal stepped out and smiled at Monica and me and we both faced him wondering why the hell he looked happy, because he never is.
“Girls, I am leavin’ you twos to clean up.”
“What?” Monica asked him.
“The both of yous,” he said as he pulled off his apron and straightened his shirt.
“Oh,” I said as I laughed and started to clean the counter some more.
Monica stared at me having no clue, she may be a hottie but what God graced her with in looks, he took away in brains.
“Date,” I mouthed to her and she laughed and looked at Sal who was heading towards the doors.
“How much she cost ya Sal?” she yelled out and he stopped and looked back at her.
“I am not going to see the whores,” he said and I laughed too. Sal would probably have money if he didn’t give it all to the strip club 3 blocks over and if I am correct, it was some little red head that took most of his money in lap dances and fake jack offs, named “Princess.”
“Uh huh,” Monica said as she picked up some plates and walked to the back bar.
“I happen to be going on a date with a lovely lady by the name of Stella.”
“Better check her crotch, she may be a man,” I said under my breath and Monica giggled. Sal did not and instead of arguing with me as he normally does he hurried out, putting on his coat and flipping the open sign to “closed.” I started to move quicker, ready to get the hell out of here. Monica walked to her coat and grabbed it and I looked up at her and raised my hands.
“What? I got stuff to do,” she said and she left me too. I rolled my eyes and thought about chasing her down and beating her ass for being so lazy but I continued to clean. I may be a bitch about most things, but I have a work ethic…only interrupted by the need to get a smoke in here and there.
I continued to clean and then heard a knock on the front door and stepped out from behind the counter, my hair a mess and big yellow gloves on from doing dishes. I narrowed my eyes and then realized it was the “poison drug dealer” I had met in the alley earlier. I pointed to the clock and yelled at him.
“Closed!” I said and he looked behind him and to both sides and knocked on the door again, this time louder. I sighed and pulled my yellow gloves off and as I walked towards him he suddenly stepped back, looked up and was lifted upward and disappeared without any noise at all. I stopped and felt my heart jump and slowly walked towards the door, then I screamed as he dropped from the sky and hit the street in front of the diner with a thud. I opened the door quickly and ran out to him as he rolled onto his back laughing and I narrowed my eyes and shook my head wanting to talk, but out of breath from the shock of it. Then he stood up quickly and grabbed my shoulders, with one quick move he tossed me towards the diner, into the air and I hit the red and white awning made out of thick material, I bounced a couple of times and then slid off and hit the sidewalk, yelling out an echoing “What the fuck?”
My new stranger than strange intruder stood in the street, looking towards the sky and then he pulled his long black coat off and dropped it, reached over his shoulders with both hands and pulled out two very large guns that looked more like something you would see in the movies than real life. I scooted back and held up my hands, hoping like hell that he was not going to shoot me, then I heard a screeching sound overhead and something swooped down, looking like a…well, fuck…it looked like a bird? A man? A weird mixture of the two? I let my mouth hang open as this double gunned dealer pointed his guns towards the beast and fired one, then the other and each blast knocked the winged thing back a few yards, but it shook its head and started to come at him again. He then spun those big guns in his hands and placed them onto his back and then quickly pulled out a glowing white ball and threw it at the ground, it hit as most glass would but as it shattered the pieces slowed in the air and so did the light. The demon above him slowed, almost to a crawl but my gun toting hottie did not and he pulled his guns and shot that beast in the heart and then the head and it lingered in the air until the light faded from the ball he had shattered against the road and he stepped aside and the beast fell like a rock right where he had been. I pushed myself up slowly and reached behind me for the door and the gunslinger looked at me and pulled out another glowing ball, only this time it was black as night, he threw it on the beast and the body disintegrated and small cloud of ash blew up and towards the night sky. I opened the door, not even breathing and backed into the diner as the man started to walk towards me. I glanced around the diner and then ran to the kitchen and pulled Sal’s cleaver and ran back out. The man stood there, looking calm as ever in the entryway and I held the cleaver in my hands as they shook. He watched me and then pulled out a cigarette and tapped it on his silver box.
“You want?” he asked me as he pulled one and flipped it once in between his fingers and held it towards me.
I could feel my heart beating so hard in my chest I swear I could taste the blood in my throat. I swallowed the nausea and stared him down, gripping that cleaver in both hands and trying to steady myself, spreading my feet apart like I had seen those who were about to fight for their lives do in movies forever. He sighed and leaned his head down, snapping his fingers once and a flame appeared and he lit his cigarette, he snapped again and the fire disappeared and quite honestly it was so not my concern after the crazy shit I had just witnessed him doing in the street.
“Ava, right?” he said as he looked up at me and grinned.
“Who the fuck are you and what the fuck was that!” I yelled at him as I shoved the cleaver out further towards him.
“Oh, I guess I can be rude. My name is Saigon…but people call me Sai,” he said.
“Like the city? Wait, I don’t fucking care! AND how did you know my name?” I yelled at him, taking one step back as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
“That is where I was born, so to speak,” he added and he took a drag of his cigarette making me think about smoking too, he glanced at me and for a split second I let my thoughts of a nicotine fix distract me and he flipped his cigarette into the air… moved in a flash, snatched the cleaver, flipped it towards the wall, it stuck into a very ugly picture of Sal all grinning and holding two knives in his hands and then he was back to his original spot, caught the cigarette and took another drag before I took one full breath. I stood there shaking and glancing at the cleaver in the wall and then back at him.
“Ava…have you ever felt like you should be more? Do more? That you were destined to be something you could not quite grasp?” he asked me as he dropped the cigarette and crushed it with his military style black boot.
I shook my head and he smiled at me.
“Well…you are,” he said and he spun on one foot and a trail of white light wrapped him and as he came back around he extended his hand towards me and the light raced towards me and struck me in the chest, I lifted from the ground as the energy of it penetrated every part of me and he ran in a flash under me as I fell into his arms, in a deep sleep...
****
I have never had one dream in my entire life. In fact when I was 13 my parents had taken me to the doctor thinking I may have some weird shit going on like a tumor or mental break thing. Truth is my brain has this glitch in it, the whole REM sleep thing never happens with me and because of it I never dream, I never reach that state in sleeping where my brain can give me visual candy. This explains my obsession with movies and art, anything visually stimulating, because I cannot and never will have my own visions of beauty made up entirely of thoughts, or under digested pizza to late at night.
Then without warning I found myself in a room, surrounded by shadows, shifting slightly as I turned in my silver chair. I looked down and saw my hands, and they started to glow slightly and symbols started to rise under my skin and emerge on the surface. I touched the palm of my hand and felt it, and then it moved slightly and I took a breath and it echoed in the room and I looked up to see each shadow start to solidify and one by one a figure emerged from the shadow form, one a girl with bright blue hair, braided over her shoulder…she was wearing a black shiny corset and black leather pants, straps on each side with a gun attached to each leg. I stared at her face for a moment and noticed how beautiful she was and youthful, she had two tattoos that started at the middle of her chest and stretched out over her shoulders in black ink, a pretty pattern and it looked awesome against her pale skin. Then a boy to her right emerged, wearing a short black coat and jeans, military style boots and his hair was shaggy a bit, blonde
and was perfect for the shape of his face, that was almost in a heart shape. His eyes, just like the girl standing next to him, were large as were his lips…then I turned and looked as a boy stepped up to me and I grinned as he held his hand out to me and opened it up, a glowing white ball rolled slowly in the palm of his hand and as I touched it I felt a surge, not unlike the one I had felt when Sai’s light slammed into my chest…not a pain, but almost a pleasurable one that caused vibrations to slowly course through me. He let the ball go and it levitated in the air in front of my face and I watched my reflection in it as it slowly moved in a slow spinning motion. I then turned when I heard his voice and I stood up as Sai approached me, smiling and looking me over, I looked down and realized I was in a see thru short white gown, that sat above my knee, my nipples were hard with excitement and he certainly let his eyes linger there for a moment until I cleared my throat and crossed my arms on my chest. Then I heard a screeching, so loud it caused a slight pain in my right temple and I placed my fingers to it as I narrowed my eyes and looked up to see thousands of those things, not unlike the one who had tried to attack Sai, circling above us. I screamed as everyone suddenly went into action and guns were drawn. Sai nodded to me and I looked down as he placed a gun into my hand and I raised it slowly as everyone else went into attack mode and as I slowly squeezed the trigger, the blast knocked me back and I sat up in a strange bed…strange room with a strange smell to it.
“Dreaming?” I heard a voice say and I looked to my right and Sai step out from the shadows of the room. A large fireplace roared across the room against the wall and the light played off of his perfect features as I pulled the blanket up and stared at him in disbelief.
“I was, I think…I mean, I have no idea what the hell is going on here,” I said as I scanned the room quickly and noticed the nice furniture placed in it and the large paintings on the walls.
