by Susan Leigh Carlton

Eighteen months after their marriage, Susannah fulfilled her promise to Kyle. She delivered a healthy seven pound nine ounce, Abigail Susannah Thompson. When compared to baby pictures of her mother, it was agreed she was a miniature copy. From the outset, Abby was Daddy’s girl. She would immediately stop crying when he picked her up. Susannah told him he was spoiling her. “Yeah, isn’t it great?” he said.

Two years later, Kyle Thompson II was born. All boy, he was able to get around his mother’s attempts at baby proofing their home. Kyle and Susannah accused Catherine of spoiling him, but she ignored them.

“One evening, the family was relaxing, when John said to his wife, “We finally got what we wanted when we added on to Papa’s house. Kids running all over.”

John turned operation of the ranch over to Kyle and he and Catherine decided to complete their bucket lists, a venture that would involve travel throughout the United States and Europe. Both of them would live to enjoy their great-grandchildren. Each year at the beginning of the fall fashion season, Catherine and Susannah would fly to Paris on a shopping trip.

Kyle was able to convince his father of the value of a helicopter to their ranching business. Susannah did not like to fly in the helicopter; she said it was too noisy. She did enjoy the Gulfstream jet that replaced their venerable Cessna 310.

They continued to enjoy a robust sex life and many evenings ended when Kyle announced he was going to take a shower. He also liked to shower in the afternoon.

The TbarS thrived and remained a force in the Montana economy.

Each year, during Zach’s summer vacation, they would fly to California and visit Ashley’s grave in Crescent City. Kyle had contracted with the cemetery management to place a headstone on the plot, and to maintain the grave site.

  About Susan

Susan’s Animals: Lissie, Bobby and Charlie

Susan lives in a gated community just outside Tomball, a small Texas town, 26 miles northwest of Houston, with her husband, two toy poodles, Bobby and Charlie, and Lissie, the cat.

“Kyle’s Modern Montana Bride” is her latest book to be published by Amazon. She says, “The Montana Doctor’s Bride kicked off a new series, called New Brides of Montana.” Then came The Montana Rancher’s Bride, Charlotte’s Montana Husband, The Montana Widow’s Husband, and “My Montana Sweetheart.” Now with The Modern Montana Bride, the series numbers six.

In the time setting for the first five books of the series, Montana has just become a territory and is in the midst of a gold rush. In addition, the Indians have grown tired of the miners and settlers moving onto their lands and fight back. It is the time known as The Great Sioux War. The time frame for The Modern Montana Bride is 2010.

Susan passed through Helena many years ago, but memories fade. She says if she had a bucket list, another visit would be near the top, and in particular, the area of Yellowstone. (Author’s Note: 3% of Yellowstone National Park is in Montana.)

She continues to monitor all of the reviews and comments. She says, “A real treasure comes from the emails from readers. I revise my writing process and style accordingly. This is a learning process for me and I love every minute of it.”

The names of all her books are on the pages following this one.

She says, “My thanks to you readers. I appreciate your taking the time to read them. As an avid reader myself, I will read several books during the time I am writing this book. Our kids love to read, as does my husband. He takes his iPad with him everywhere, and reads during waits for the doctor. He would take it when we go out to eat, but he knows I would do him bodily harm.

I would like to thank those of you who cared enough to email me about the plots and the style. For someone to have the interest and take the time to email… well it makes my day. I had an email from a gentleman who lives in the area I used as the setting for ‘In Search Of Love’. Since I research the geographical setting of all my books, the names of the trails, creeks and towns were familiar to him.”

Another reader emailed a picture of her great-great grandfather after she read ‘The Widow Finds Love’ which is based in part on my great-great-great grandmother and her 1888 trek from South Carolina to Utah.”

“Thanks again. Now I can begin research on my next effort. If you have suggestions for additional books, I would love to hear them. Email them to me or enter them as comments on the website.”

If you enjoyed Kyle’s Modern Montana Bride, please consider leaving a favorable review on Amazon.
