I kissed her forehead, her nose, and then finally, her lips. Kissed her longer than I’d planned, savoring the last one that we would share. I looked into the brown eyes that had captured me from the first moment her picture stared at me from my computer screen.
“I love you,” I whispered. “I love you so much, Kitty Davis.”
With one last look, I left her crying with a broken heart, all the while carrying my own, unable to wish her goodbye because saying it would’ve hurt even more.
***
It had been a year since Kitty left and went to Rhode Island and I’d missed her every single day since then. She was always the last person on my mind before I went to sleep and the first person when I woke up.
And she still remained in my heart, even after the long year apart.
“You have a vacation coming up,” John said, startling me out of my thoughts. I looked at my friend and envied him for a moment. He’d kept his submissive this whole time and from the looks of it, he hadn’t gotten enough of her just yet.
I nodded at him in response, sipping my scotch. John decided to pay me a visit at home since he claimed that I’d been isolating myself even more after Kitty left. He’d been checking on me the entire time she’d been gone to make sure I was still in the right state of mind.
“Are you going to get yourself a submissive?” John asked cautiously, knowing that he was treading through dangerous waters. The night after Kitty left, I couldn’t bear the loneliness and had gotten myself drunk with John, confessing my feelings for Kitty to him.
I sighed and shook my head. “I can’t. I can’t replace her, John.”
“Have you spoken to her?”
Again, I shook my head. “I told her not to contact me. It would only be a distraction to her. I want her to have the chance to be who she’s meant to be in this world.”
John didn’t say anything else. Letting me wallow in my sorrow. By the time we’d finished our drinks in silence, it was well into the night and John had to leave.
Any distractions I’d had disappeared once John left to go home and I couldn’t help but check on Kitty. I’d kept track of her progress during the year and she never failed to impress me with her grades. She’d managed to score a spot on the Dean’s list last semester and had been thriving in each of her classes.
God, I missed her. My heart literally ached to hear her voice and I couldn’t stop myself. I called her.
She answered on the first ring. “Connor! You have no idea how much I’ve missed you. It’s about time you called me. I’ve started to call you a million times even though you told me not to. I’m so glad you called, Connor.”
“Me too. I’m glad too,” I said, voice rough with emotion. Did she love me after all this time or had she found someone new? “I’ve missed so much, Kitty.”
I could almost hear her smile through the phone. “Not as terribly as I have.”
“Do you still love me?” I asked, blurting out the question, unable to keep the words locked away. It wasn’t fair of me to ask, but I had to know.
“Yes,” Kitty answered without hesitation. “Do…do you still love me?”
I smiled. “I’ve never stopped.”
“We have to think of a way to make this work, Connor,” she told me, “We have to make this work. I can’t go on missing you like this every day. It hurts too much.”
“I’ll visit you this weekend if you’d like that,” I said, hoping that she would say yes.
“If I’d like that?” she repeated, incredulous. “Of course, Connor! I’d love it. You don’t know how many times I’ve dreamed about you surprising me and coming here.”
“Then be ready, Kitty. Be ready for your Master, little sub, he’s coming to take care of you.”
Epilogue
Kitty
I never could’ve imagined that two years could’ve gone by so fast. And Connor had stuck with me through it all. I couldn’t have been more thankful to love a man that chose to be with me no matter how rough life had gotten.
Or for a man that knew how to please me so well in bed either.
Connor cuffed my wrists to the bedpost of our hotel room, fucking me without mercy just the way he used to when I’d been nothing more than his submissive.
When we agreed to have a real relationship, our sex life had grown wilder and kinkier. I didn’t even think it was possible.
“Yes, Connor!” I screamed, my climax building as Connor pumped into me.” He grabbed the leather whip off the nightstand and slapped it against the side of my thigh, never breaking stride. The smack of it on my skin sent me over the edge. “Ohh yes, Connor!” I cried out, riding my orgasm as his thrusts turned harder, his own climax close.
“Fuck, you’re still so tight, Kitty,” he said with a grunt. He nipped at my exposed tits, making me shiver as pleasure crested and consumed me.
“God, yes!” I said, moaning and arching against Connor. Ecstasy filled me as my orgasm reached it’s highest.
Connor pummeled his cock deep into me, tensing as he fell over the edge and filled me with his cum. His thrusts turned slow as his climax took over him completely. His groans of pleasure filled the room until he finally stopped rocking above me.
We were both breathing hard, smiles on our faces, as the pleasure of our shared orgasms faded away. Connor kissed me lightly on the lips before pulling out of me and falling to one side. Panting and covered in sweat, he’d never looked as tempting to me as he did in that moment.
Connor propped himself up on one arm and looked at me, a lopsided grin on his gorgeous face. “Good morning, Mrs. Strickland.”
I couldn’t stop my own smile from spreading across my face. “Mrs. Strickland, I like the way that sounds. You haven’t called me that in a while.”
The day that he’d arrived on the doorstep of my apartment, the moment I opened the door, he gotten down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
I didn’t hesitate to say yes.
We’d had a quick Vegas wedding the next day to tie the knot before heading back to Rhode Island since there were still classes that I had to get to, but neither of us wanted to wait. The honeymoon had been postponed, but Connor had stayed with me for a month and it was nice going home to him at the apartment after school.
“Good morning, Mr. Strickland.” I smiled at Connor and then glanced at my hands that were still cuffed. “I’d appreciate it if you’d remove these cuffs off of me.”
“I like it when you’re in bondage,” he said with a wink before removing the cuffs. I rubbed my wrists, already red from the restraints. Connor held my hands and kissed the marks on them.
“How did I get so lucky?” I asked him, slipping my hands out of his and cupping his face. The slight stubble on his face scratched against my palm. Out of anyone, this man chose to marry me and everyday I was still amazed by it. All my life, luck was never on my side, but still fate led me to Connor and everything else just fell into place when I found him.
“I’m the one that’s lucky. Happy anniversary, my love,” Connor said, dipping his head and capturing my lips with his. I melted into the kiss and whined when he pulled away. He chuckled and kissed the hand that held the heavy ring set that he’d given me. “I’m so happy that you agreed to marry me.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m happy that you broke the self-inflicted separation between us and showed up at my apartment, and with a ring too!”
“It was a good thing you said yes.” Connor laced our fingers together and I rested my head on his chest, listening to his rhythmic heartbeat. “But I still feel like we need an actual wedding. Whisking you off to Vegas wasn’t very romantic.”
I smiled. “It’s okay. We were never a very romantic couple anyway.”
We were quiet for a moment, the silence comfortable. But one thought wouldn’t leave me alone. I turned to my husband and said, “I miss Blaine. I know it’s only been a day, but I do.”
Connor laughed. It reverberated throughout his body and echoed in the ear tha
t I had pressed against his chest. “You’re his mother. It’s fine for you to miss him. I do too.”
I chewed on my bottom lip. I’d never had a real family before, but the wait for mine was worth it. “Thank you.”
Connor’s eyebrows rose. “What for?”
“Because I met you. Because we have Blaine. I’m so lucky to have two of the most handsome men in the world in my life.” I stared straight into his gorgeous blue eyes. “Having a family has always been my biggest dream of all. One that I was never sure I’d actually get.”
“And someday soon, we’ll add to that family. I think a daughter would be perfect. A little girl with chocolate brown eyes just like yours.” Connor smiled at me. “But in the meantime, we’ll have fun trying for that daughter.”
“You make it sound like a game,” I said, swatting him on the chest.
“Isn’t it kind of?” he asked, giving me that lopsided grin of his. He twisted in the bed, pulling me with him until he had one arm around my waist as he hovered above me. “I like our games,” he added, grabbing the blindfold he’d brought and winking at me.
“I love you, Connor,” I said, sighing happily before smiling up at him. Always.”
He let the blindfold slip from him fingers, forgotten, before taking my hand and caressing the wedding rings I wore.
“I love you too, Kitty. Always and forever,” he said.
I leaned forward and pressed a kiss against the lips of the man who used to be my dominant.
But was now my happily ever after.

Chapter One
Emma
“Hey, keep up!” Travis yells. “We’re just getting started!”
A bead of sweat drips down my forehead and I stumble on the ground, nearly losing my balance and falling right on my ass.
“Okay!” I yell back, trying to sound cheery and happy. “Sounds good!”
With a whoop of boyish enthusiasm, Travis disappears into a clump of trees. Branches and twigs snap loudly as he moves away into the distance. For a moment, I think about stopping and leaning against the trunk of a tree. There’s a big one right next to me, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more comfortable place to recline.
“Emma, come on!”
With one more reluctant glance at the tree, I take a deep breath and push forward. The muscles in my thighs are burning and my narrow chest is heaving with every breath, but I can’t stop now. I have to keep going if I want to keep up with Travis.
Breaking into a jog, I finally catch him. God, he looks so hot right now – his green eyes are glinting in the sun and his muscles are rippling under his t-shirt.
I wonder when he’s going to drop this stupid hiking act and kiss me.
“So,” I pant. “This is fun.”
Travis eyes me and snorts. “Yeah,” he echoes, glancing down at his watch.
“I’m not really the biggest fan of hiking,” I say. “But when you asked me, I couldn’t say no.” I bite my lip and try to look as kissable as I can.
Travis turns to me and frowns. He rakes a hand through his blonde hair and shakes his head. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah,” I reply. An awkward flush spreads along my cheeks.
It’s true, too – only an idiot would have said no. Travis Peterson is the hottest guy at school – all the girls I know are dying to go out with him.
“Well, I’m glad you came,” Travis says. He gives me a suggestive look and my heart lurches to the side.
Finally, I think happily as I smile back at Travis. The whole time we’ve been hiking, I’ve been wondering when Travis is finally going to make a move. I mean, there’s no way he brought me out here because he actually wanted to hike. For one thing, no one would mistake me for an athletic girl – I’m big and curvy. Pretty much the opposite of athletic.
Besides, who goes hiking on a first date?
My heart thuds as Travis steps closer. His hand brushes my shirt and for a moment, I think I’m going to lose it. I haven’t ever been out with a guy like Travis before, and I don’t want to screw this up.
“You’ve got some dirt on you,” Travis growls. He frowns as he brushes my shirt with his fingers.
I stand waiting, holding my breath. Kiss me, darn it! Ignore the dirt! Who cares about that?
“Come on,” Travis says. He throws a glance over his shoulder. “Let’s keep going.”
Disappointment swells in my chest and I force a smile on my face. “I was thinking maybe we could rest for a while?” I ask. “My feet are starting to hurt.”
Travis glances down at my shoes. “You should have worn hiking boots,” he says dismissively. “Come on!” Then, without waiting for my reply, he sprints off into the woods.
Shit.
“Coming!” I call weakly. At this point, I’m almost wishing that I’d said no when Travis asked me out….or at least asked him if we couldn’t do something other than hike. But then I remember that I’m with Travis and the thought is enough to get me moving again.
The rays of the sun overhead are hot and merciless. As I plod along after my very own Greek god, I can feel sweat beginning to trickle down my forehead. My tongue feels fat and dry in my mouth and my lips are cracked and blistered.
“Hey,” I say. “Travis, I gotta stop for a second. I feel like I’m about to pass out.”
Travis groans and I flush awkwardly. To my relief, he stops walking and stretches his arms high over his head.
“We should really be making better time,” Travis says. “Don’t you want to see the falls?”
“I don’t know why you’re in such a hurry, it’s not like they’re going anywhere,” I grumble.
“Emma, they’re really pretty,” Travis says. “Everyone should see the view – it’s really something.”
His words fill me with sudden hope and I understand why he hasn’t kissed me yet – he’s waiting for the falls! My heart skips a beat and I grin.
“That sounds amazing,” I say, eyeing Travis flirtatiously. “I just need to take a short break,” Slinging my bag over my shoulder, I reach for my phone and check the screen. “Hey, I don’t get reception out here.”
Travis snorts. “Yeah, no shit,” he says. “You ready to keep going?”
I take my water bottle out and twist off the cap. To my dismay, the bottle is already mostly empty. But the water is like heaven in my mouth, even though it’s warm and tastes like chlorine. Besides, if the waterfall is as clean and beautiful as Travis insists, I can always fill up my bottle there.
“Okay,” I say. “I’m ready.”
“Finally,” Travis mutters under his breath.
I frown. His comment stings, but I let it
slide. After all, here I am – Emma Hadley, luckiest girl in the world. Travis could have asked anyone, but he didn’t.
He asked me.
“So, um, how are your classes going?” I ask as we plod along under the hot rays of the sun. I can feel the skin on my face burning and I hope that I don’t look too awful. In my excitement of getting ready to go out with someone as hot as Travis, I forgot my usual sunscreen.
“Fine,” Travis says.
I bite my lip, wondering when he’s going to start showing any interest.
“Mine are good, too,” I chirp. “I mean, except biology. It’s my least favorite subject and I hate Dr. Callahan! He’s so rude,” I continue. “He staples Burger King applications to your test if you don’t get at least seventy-five percent!”
I expect Travis to laugh or even commiserate with me but he plows through the trees like I haven’t even said anything.
“Hey, are you okay?” I ask. I stop walking and shove my hands into my pockets. “Travis?”
At the sound of his name, Travis stops. He turns to face me and I can see the irritation on his face.
“What?”
“Are you okay?” I repeat. “You’re not really saying much.”
Travis shrugs. “Yeah, fine,” he says. “I guess I’m just distracted.”
“Is there something going on? I mean, we can talk about it if you—“
“Let’s just keep hiking,” Travis says. His frown disappears and he flashes a big grin at me. The sight of his gorgeous smile is enough to make me forget my annoyance.
“Okay.”
Travis leads me deeper and deeper into the woods. At first, I’m really glad for the trees overhead – the shade feels cool and soothing on my burned skin. But after a while, it starts to feel kind of chilly.
