Force of Love (Forever and Always #4) (Ryan and Janice) Page 17

by Todd, E. L.

“Don’t you get jealous when guys hit on me and buy me things?”

“Nope. It comes with the territory.”

  She rolled her eyes.

“Besides, I’ll beat the shit out of them if it gets out of hand.”

“Now that is a normal reaction.”

I adjusted myself in the mirror. “Now let’s go before Scarlet pulls back on her pajamas and starts sobbing in her room when she thinks we can’t hear her.”

Just when I thought Sean and Scarlet’s relationship couldn’t get any more fucked up, it did. Sean was with his colleagues when we went to the bar, sitting next to a particular attractive brunette. The sight would make me mad under a different situation, but I knew Sean loved Scarlet based on the way he freaked out the other night. If he said she was just a colleague, I believed him.

But it got weirder when we went to the courts the next afternoon. Apparently, the same brunette showed up at Sean’s apartment, and I was furious. How else did she know where he lived unless Sean took her there? And why would Sean take her there unless he wanted to fuck her. I was prepared to rip that fucker apart. Even Janice, the person who could control my rage and calm be down with a gentle kiss, couldn’t stop my rampage. I stormed over there with my fist raised.

After he explained the situation I realized I was overreacting. He made some good points about trying to keep the ladies away. I had so many issues with that even though I blatantly told everyone I met I was practically married to Janice. I could sympathize with the guy. After an apology, I left.

“I just find it odd that they have so many problems even though their relationship is still fairly new,” Janice said in bed one night. “We have our fights but we forget about them within a few hours. And I never storm out of the apartment and you never leave.”

I spooned her from behind. “I don’t get it either.”

“They sound like they have communication issues.”

“It’s probably because they had a bad start. I think they’ll figure it out.”

“They seriously need to talk this out when they resolve their issues.”

“I’ll talk to Scarlet about it.”

“I love Scarlet to death but this wouldn’t have happened if she wasn’t being so unfair.”

I sighed, knowing she was right. “I’ll set her straight. I don’t want her to lose Sean over it.”

  “I think that’s best.”

Sean and Scarlet worked out their difference in the next few days. There were some booty calls in between that Scarlet thought I didn’t notice. I knew about everything that happened in my house, being the watchdog that I was. I knew Sean fucked her here, then took her back to his place another night. It didn’t bother me because they were still monogamous. Sex always seemed to make my relationship with Janice stronger. I always felt connected to her when we made love.

When she and I were eating lunch in the kitchen on Saturday, Scarlet and Sean walked in the, grabbed her belongings, then left.

“Yes!” I said as I jumped up, doing the snake hip dance.

Scarlet rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t that much of a nuisance.”

“That’s what you think. You aren’t coming back, right?”

Sean kissed her on the forehead. “That was the last time she’ll ever stay here.”

  She nodded. “Yeah, it is.”

  I clapped. “Now scram!”

Scarlet and Sean laughed as they left.

I looked at Janice. “So, what do you want to do for the day?”

  “Catch up on some sleep.”

I raised an eyebrow. “That better be a fucking joke.”

“Come on. You know how much of a whore I am.”

  I smiled. “That’s better.”

We abandoned our food then moved to the floor, where I took her hard and fast. We always tried to make it to the bedroom but we never made it that far. I couldn’t count the number of vases, dressers, and glasses we broke as we screwed all over the house. That weekend was reserved for lovemaking. We both enjoyed not having to be quiet, moaning and screaming as much as we wanted. By the end of the weekend, I felt like I would start shooting blanks. My body felt satisfied after I had as much of her as I could. But then again, it would never be enough.

When I went to work on Monday, I bought a few jewelry magazines and started to skim through them, looking for the perfect ring. Every ring I found was beautiful and sparkly, but nothing reminded me of Janice. The ring couldn’t just be beautiful. It had to be perfect. The love of my life deserved only the best.

I was getting more frustrated with very magazine I looked at it. Sean customized Scarlet’s ring so I may have to ask for his help, as long as he didn’t tell Scarlet, my girl’s best friend. I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted my proposal to be so amazing and beautiful that she would cry. I had to play this close to my chest.

When Scarlet called me, I sighed. I had been with her for the past two weeks. I was sick of her at this point.

  “Yeah?”

  She was crying.

My heart palpitated in my chest, making me feel panicked. “Scar, are you okay? What happened with Sean?”

“Come get me,” she said with a sob. She was crying so hard I could barely understand her.

  “I’m at work. Call Cortland.”

  “It’s an emergency. Please.”

Now I was really scared. “Scar, calm down. I’m locking the shop right now and I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

  “Okay,” she said weakly.

“Now tell me what happened. Don’t hang up on me.”

  “Sean—Sean was arrested.”

I was not expecting that. “What? Why?”

“Carl is taking him to court for assault and now Sean thinks he’s coming after me and Janice.”

I didn’t know what to say. I never felt so scared in my life. I knew Scarlet’s boss was a psycho pervert. The memory of him harassing Janice spread through my mind, along with the way it made Janice feel afterwards. Before I left, I grabbed my gun from under the counter.

  “I’m on my way.”
