by Julie Thomas

From the Holocaust to the present day, across continents and oceans, Kobi’s journey will ultimately lead him to the truth about his family – and his own identity.

‘. . . seamlessly weaves important historical detail into this saga of a single family riven and nearly decimated by the Holocaust.’ – NZ Listener

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JULIE THOMAS’s first book The Keeper of Secrets was published by HarperCollins USA in 2013. She had written it while working fulltime as a writer, producer, director and executive producer in the media, and achieved considerable success self-publishing it on Amazon and Smashwords.

Blood, Wine & Chocolate followed in 2015, published by HarperCollins NZ. This wine crime novel revolved around a mob murder, witness protection, barrels of delicious wine and boxes of scrumptious chocolate, and some innovative murder techniques.

In 2016, Julie published Rachel’s Legacy with HarperCollins NZ, a sequel to The Keeper of Secrets, which expanded on the fate of Rachel Horowitz and her part in the Red Orchestra resistance movement in World War II Berlin. With Levi’s War, the Horowitz Chronicles come to an end.

Julie lives in the small rural town of Putaruru, where she looks out on farmland from her study window and is serenaded by cows. She is an active member of her local community and is Mum to Chloe, a black-and-white cat who rules the house.

  PRAISE FOR JULIE THOMAS

Praise for The Keeper of Secrets

Thomas’s writing comes alive when describing the glories of music and the alchemy of its extraordinary practitioners. She has also managed to portray the horror of life in Dachau with pinpoint accuracy and emotional conviction.

  NZ Listener

Originally self-published as an ebook, gaining widespread popularity and rave reviews, The Keeper of Secrets is the culmination of years of meticulous research, for which the reader reaps the rewards. Prepare to be swept up in a captivating story that both entertains and informs.

  Australian Women’s Weekly

I can see why it’s been so successful. The Keeper of Secrets is holocaust fiction with a difference, a compelling tale about a precious violin and the people who love, play and covet it.

  Herald on Sunday

  Praise for Rachel’s Legacy

This sequel . . . seamlessly weaves important historical detail into this saga of a single family riven and nearly decimated by the Holocaust. Of local interest is Thomas’s compassionate rendering of the cruel prejudices inflicted on German refugees to the Antipodes. Ultimately, this lovely sequel, driven by the trajectory of characters rather than the fate of an instrument, will leave Thomas’s readers eager for the follow-up to come.

  NZ Listener

The weaving together of present and past makes for an enthralling read, and the author’s obviously extensive research shines through, without being too overwhelming to the story.

  Bay Weekend

Secrets and legacies in many different forms are important throughout and Thomas does a good job of conveying dramatically the importance that art can have in people’s lives.

  North and South

This book, at its core, is a celebration of heritage. It is about the importance of remembering the past, not for the purpose of learning from history’s mistakes but simply to acknowledge that it happened and that each event has shaped and moulded our present.

  Oamaru Mail

Praise for Blood, Wine & Chocolate

From the mean streets of the East End to the sparkling waters of Auckland, this tale of switched identities, vengeful obsession and lethal ingenuity is as addictive as chocolate with more twists than a corkscrew.

  Bay Weekend

Be sure you have nothing else planned because this book will carry you away.

  Greymouth Evening Standard

Thomas balances plot and character perfectly and her plot points are nothing if not creative. One character is dispatched with a wine bottle in a manner that will have you squirming simultaneously in delight and horror. Readers will finish this book looking forward to Thomas’s next offering.

  North and South

The wine and chocolate are described in loving and detailed terms, which will appeal to wine and chocolate buffs. Readers who enjoy thrillers will find this to be a page-turner that’s likely to be consumed in a couple of gulps.
