Her Bear Protector Trilogy Page 20

by Bonnie Burrows

Alex nodded, smiling and blinking back tears. "I'd like that. I'd love that, actually."

Seth grinned, his eyes closing again. "Good. Pick you a whole armful of them. Treat you how you deserve to be treated."

He appeared to fall asleep again, this time for good, a little smile curving his mouth. Alex leaned over and planted a kiss on a tiny spot of unbloodied skin on his forehead.

Over the next couple of days, everyone recovered from their injuries, what was left of Victor's body was buried deep in the wilds, and all signs of carnage were removed from the yard of the Victorian mansion. And also, Seth and Alex got to take their walk.

And soon it became clear they were falling deeply in love. It was agreed that Alex would stay with all of us at the cabin settlement indefinitely.

The evening that was decided, she went into Houghton to buy some clothes and call her grandfather's maid to check that he'd made it home to his mansion outside of Detroit okay. Although she planned on never speaking to him again, she still felt it was her duty to make sure he had arrived home safely. The maid told her that he had, but had died in his sleep from a heart attack that night. Which made Alex the new owner of the immortality land within the wilds. She told Aaron she wanted to give the land to everyone in the family, to repay us all for our kindness to her.

About a week later, Aaron and I were married under an archway of orange and gold leaves. I wore a thin wreath of lavender coneflowers in my hair, the same flowers he'd given me the day we'd met. After our wedding reception in the meeting cabin, he carried me into our own cabin and set me on our bed, whispering near my ear that he loved his new wife with all his heart and always would. I closed my eyes for a long moment, savoring perfect bliss.
