I’m so grateful to the teams at Little, Brown and Hodder and Stoughton for championing this book and making my experience memorable, exciting, and everything I’d hoped it would be.
To the team at Alloy Entertainment: Les Morgenstein, Josh Bank, Sara Shandler, Joelle Hobeika, and Viana Siniscalchi…I will forever be grateful for your support and enamored with your creative minds. Viana and Joelle, you two have truly been my literary soul mates on this project and beyond.
Jess Dallow, my brilliant agent and friend, I am a better writer because of you. Thank you for your notes on this book and others, for being in my corner, for the care you take with my career…and for enthusiastically texting with me about television shows.
My coven: Sonia Hartl, Kelsey Rodkey, Andrea Contos, Auriane Desombre, Susan Lee, and Rachel Lynn Solomon—I love your books, your humor, your support, and all of you in general. I got lucky when I found you.
Two of my favorite writers and dear friends caught both me and this book early on when we were falling: Doctor Professor Author Jenny Howe and Jen “Gator Whisperer” DeLuca. Your words inspire me; your friendship nourishes me.
I’m fortunate enough to have writer friends and CPs who are as talented as they are wise and funny. Much love and gratitude to Roselle Lim (my life coach), Suzanne Park (my hoodie twin), J. R. Yates (my Monday writing buddy), and Milo Mowery (my fellow Aggie). Thank you to Jody Honywood, who may not be a writer but still held my hand through so much of this process.
Team Dallow, I appreciate the group celebrating and commiserating that has occurred through our ups and downs. You are all wonderful.
Much love to my Pitch Wars family, particularly the table-flippers of 2016. Thank you for the writing sprints and shenanigans. I sure like you weirdos.
My friends and family have provided so much support as I pursued this uncertain career path. There are too many to name, but I’m blowing kisses your way.
To my parents, Ray and Sally Pyne, who encouraged my lofty goals and gave me my quirky sense of humor: I love you both. Aren’t you glad I didn’t actually become an accountant? I’m terrible at math.
Paula Smith, I’m sorry your name isn’t in thirty-two-point bold font here, but it is in my heart. Thanks for your continued encouragement. There’s no one I’d rather eat pickles and cheese with.
My darling kids, G and A: I really hit the jackpot with you two. Being your mom has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. Thanks for cheering me on and making me laugh (and for naming at least half of my characters).
And, of course, to that handsome man I married: I love you and I like you. I’m grateful to have you by my side through this and every journey.
