He stepped towards me. I stepped back and around the table. He kept walking towards me. I stopped, put my hands on my hips and gave him my best death glare.

“Calla, you are being ridiculous. Let me show you how much I care about you.”

I almost felt bad. He looked genuine, but I knew the man was a master manipulator. It could all be a show.

“Will you please leave?” I asked, in a much kinder tone. “I’m sorry, but we both need to move on. We were never really happy together, it’s why we were constantly fighting and breaking up. I don’t blame you, Blake. I want you to be happy. Find a girl that suits you.”

He looked at me, really looked at me as if he was seeing me for the first time. “You’ve changed. What’s different about you?”

I shrugged a shoulder. “I have changed. I’ve realized I want something different and you aren’t it.”

That seemed to surprise him and I inwardly laughed. If he knew what changed about me he would probably become apoplectic. The man was a boring stiff in the bedroom. He would be absolutely appalled to know what Jake and I did together. That idea alone gave me a great deal of satisfaction.

Blake could have never pleasured me like Jake did.

  Chapter Thirty-Nine

  Jake

I woke up and instantly knew she wasn’t beside me. I had a woody and was hoping for a little early morning sex. I reached out to find her warm body, but felt nothing but emptiness. I stayed right where I was, hoping she had just gotten up for a second and would be back in bed soon. I smiled thinking about how she was planning to wake me up.

My fantasy was ruined when I heard something that didn’t fit with what I had been hoping for. What the hell? My eyes popped open, scanning the room, looking for her. She wasn’t in the room. I froze when I heard voices.

“Oh shit,” I felt sliver of fear at the thought of an angry father finding me in his daughter’s bed. She told me they wouldn’t be home for a few days. This was going to be very awkward.

I reminded myself she was an adult. I was an adult. The worst that could happen is they kicked me out of the house. That was fine with me, but she was going with me when I left. I wasn’t usually the kind of guy fathers wanted their daughters seeing. I had learned to live with that fact a long time ago. I was perfectly okay with it and needed no one’s approval.

I threw off the sheets and pulled on my jeans. I had no idea where my underwear went and didn’t want to waste time looking in case someone came barging through the door. I heard Calla’s voice get loud and instantly knew something wasn’t right. I opened the bedroom door, pausing to listen a heartbeat before stalking down the hall to investigate.

I heard a man’s voice and could hear the frustration in Calla’s voice, even if I couldn’t make out the words.

“What’s going on?” I asked, stepping into the living room.

I quickly took in the situation. Blake was standing a little too close to Calla. Calla looked as if she wanted to run. She was wearing her robe, clenching it tight around her neck.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Blake shouted. “You’re fucking that guy?” his voice was high-pitched and annoying as hell.

“Blake, I said you need to go,” Calla said in a calm voice, looking back at me and telling me to stay put with her eyes.

I was glad she was calm, because I was pissed. I got the message, but didn’t like it. Why was her ex-boyfriend standing in her living room early in the morning? I wanted to throw the guy out on his ass.

“Is this why you don’t want to have dinner with me? This guy?” the other man sneered. “Is this some mental breakdown or that hostage syndrome thing?”

I glared at him but stayed where I was. I would not disrespect her parents’ home. I didn’t give a shit if he thought I was unworthy of Calla. He was a puke. His opinion didn’t mean a flying fuck to me.

“Blake, I told you before, we are over. I don’t want to go to dinner with you because there is nothing for us to talk about. You need to go.”

Blake took a step towards Calla. I stepped closer behind her and shook my head, warning the man not to get any closer. He sneered, but stopped moving.

“So, you fucked him?” Blake said the words as if he had been chewing on a dirty shoe. “That whole time you were supposedly lost and I was worried sick about you, you were fucking him? That’s a new low, even for you Calla.”

“It’s none of your business what I do,” she shot back. “I’ll go as low as I want. After all, I fucked you.”

The man’s eyes widened in shock at her use of the word. I had to fight back a proud smile. I had heard her say that word many times, but in a much different context. Blakey boy had no idea who Calla was or what she liked. The self-centered prick didn’t deserve her.

“Did you get it out of your system? I know that smut you write about is all about your fantasies. Now that you have had one of these, these, barbarians,” he waved his hand at me and curled his lip with disgust, “can we get back to normal?”

She chuckled. “Oh, Blake. After sex with a barbarian I would never go back to you.”

I grinned at the man who looked as if she had slapped him. I didn’t even try to hide my amusement. Blake looked at me, then Calla and then back at my fresh out of bed appearance. His face twisted into horror as he put it all together.

“You dirty whore!” he yelled. “You nasty slut. I can’t believe I ever touched your fat ass! I can do so much better than you. In fact, I have, many times. All those times you thought I was out with the guys, I was getting laid by women ten times prettier than you!” he screeched.

I saw red. I stepped around Calla and punched Blake square in the mouth. He fell backwards, landing on the couch, barely avoiding smashing through the glass coffee table. I stood over him, my bare chest heaving.

“Stay the fuck down. You get up and I will knock your fucking teeth down your throat. Do not ever disrespect her again. Got it?” I snarled, fighting the urge to hit him again.

Calla was beside me, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from the bleeding man sprawled on the couch.

  “Go, Blake. Now,” she ordered.

Blake stared at me before scrambling off the couch and rushing out the front door.

I turned to Calla. “Are you okay?”

“Yes. He didn’t do anything but bitch at me.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to actually hit him, it just kind of came over me,” I explained, hoping I hadn’t scared her.

“It’s fine. Really. He had it coming,” she said, bursting into laughter. “I wish I would’ve hit him.”

I grinned and pulled her close to me. She reached up on her tiptoes and kissed me. The kiss started out fun and flirty, but quickly changed into hot and fiery. I grabbed her butt and yanked her up my body. Her legs wrapped around my waist. Her robe fell open, revealing her nude body underneath.

Her body around my waist pushed my unbuttoned jeans down my hips, my cock pushing out.

  “Ohhh,” she moaned. “What’s this?”

I laughed. “I was in a hurry. I didn’t take the time to put on anything but my jeans.”

She kissed me, biting my lower lip as her tongue thrust inside my mouth. I moved towards the direction of what I hoped was the hallway. I couldn’t see with her covering my face. I bumped into something and found myself standing in the kitchen.

“Oops,” I chuckled. The view of the counter was all I needed to see. “Perfect,” I whispered dropping her onto the counter. It was the perfect height for fucking.

I stepped back and pushed the robe off her shoulders then dove my face between her breasts, plunging my fingers inside her pussy with one quick move.

“Oh,” she yelped at the swift invasion.

“You’re already wet, Calla. What has you so wet?”

“You!” she shouted when I began fingering her with serious intent.

She pushed my jeans down my hips and wiggled her butt forward on the counter. Her hand reached out and grabbed my
cock, stroking and pulling it towards her center.

I was ready. I couldn’t wait another second. I pulled my fingers out of her slick pussy and guided my dick inside, keeping my hand wrapped around the length until my knuckles were pressed against her lips. I used one knuckle to rub against her nub while my dick throbbed inside.

Her mouth came over mine, her tongue swishing inside. I probed her with my dick while my tongue probed her mouth. She grabbed my tongue with her teeth, then sucked hard. I released my dick and pushed in. My hands moved to her breasts, kneading and tweaking the nipples with my fingers. Her body collapsed against me with the first orgasm. I knew this was just the beginning. I rolled her nipples between finger and thumb, spiraling her right back up and ready for the next orgasm.

She leaned back and away from me, exposing her naked body. I looked down at my dick pushing inside her, then slowly pulled out before sliding back in. I was mesmerized by the scene.

“I want this everyday for the rest of my life,” I groaned out.

Her head came forward, I looked up to meet her eyes and saw tenderness and love. I nearly blew my wad right there. I clenched my jaw, fighting back the orgasm, knowing she needed to cum again or she would never be satisfied. I was dying for release. I reached out and did the one sure thing I knew would make her scream. I pushed against the one spot that always pushed her over the edge before clamping down on one nipple with my teeth.

In an instant, she was exploding around my dick, and her shouts of pleasure pulled me over the edge, tumbling into sweet ecstasy. Her head rested against my shoulder as we both took a minute to catch our breath.

“My parents can never know what happened on their kitchen counter. My mother would die,” she burst into laughter.

“I’m sure as hell not going to tell them.”

“Do you believe in soul mates?” she asked, her robe still in a puddle around her body.

I kissed her before answering. “I don’t know. I don’t think so. I guess it’s not something I really thought about.”

She nodded, a thoughtful look on her face. “Me either, but I can’t help but feel we were destined to meet. Our bodies seem to melt together so perfectly.”

I grinned before pulling her robe up her arms. “Maybe. I don’t think we have to believe in something for it to be real. Our bodies make beautiful music together, but I think it’s who we are that really makes it click.”

“I guess that’s true. There are plenty of beautiful bodies out there, but I doubt they would all be compatible.”

I heard a scratching at the back door.

  “Evie,” she said.

Oh. I reached down and pulled up my jeans before leaving the comfort I always found between her legs. I walked to the back door and let the little dog in. Calla slid off the counter and tied her robe closed.

“Come on, Evie, let’s get you some breakfast.”

I watched as she poured kibble in a bowl, loving the way her body moved under the silk robe. She finished with the dog and then walked towards me.

“You got that look in your eye again,” she said, with a sexy smile.

“I think I always have that look in my eye when I’m around you, especially when I know you’re naked under that robe.”

“My parents recently remodeled the house,” she said, as if it was supposed to mean something.

“That’s nice,” I murmured, unsure of what else to say.

She started down the hall. “They put in a beautiful, huge shower in the guest room. Lots of jets and a lot of room.”

Now I knew what she was getting at and I quickly followed her lead. When I stepped into the bathroom I was pleasantly surprised.

“I need one of these at the cabin.”

“Yes, you do, but I’m not sure how it would fit.”

“I could be convinced to make a small addition. I think you need to prove to me the investment would be worth it,” I told her, already shedding my jeans.

She dropped the robe and turned on the water. “I think I can do that.”

  Chapter Forty

  Calla

I took one last look around my childhood bedroom and burst into laughter.

Jake came to stand behind me. “What’s so funny?”

I shook my head. “I remember laying in this bed back when I was probably fifteen. I used to dream about my first kiss and wondered what it would be like to have a boy’s tongue in my mouth. If these walls could talk after the last couple of days, my parents would burn down the house. I’m so glad I’m not going to be here when they get back. I would never be able to look them in the eye. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to visit without thinking about what we did.”

  “Where?”

  “Huh?”

“Which area gives you the most cause for concern? Was it when I took you on the kitchen counter or when I had you up against the wall in the hallway? Oh, I bet you it was the table. That one will certainly give me some wet dreams for a long time to come,” he said, with that dirty little smile that always made me want to jump him.

“Great, now I won’t even be able to have Thanksgiving dinner here.”

He laughed, low in his throat. “You and the turkey will have a lot in common.”

My mouth dropped open and I playfully slapped at his chest. “You are so nasty!”

“I wasn’t the one with my legs spread wide and my ass up in the air on that table.”

“Jake!” I said in mock horror, blushing at the memory.

He walked towards the door, laughing the whole way, pulling my suitcase behind him.

“Come on, Evie,” I called the dog.

She pranced out the door and out to Jake’s truck. I put her little bed in the back of the extended cab and lifted her inside.

  “Ready?” he asked.

  “Yep.”

We drove back to his place, chatting about our pasts, our future and everything in between. It was weird to think we had barely been able to exchange two words in the past and now we couldn’t stop talking. It was like the cork had been popped and our lives were freely flowing together.

“This is Gabe’s house, huh?” I asked, as he brought the truck to a stop in front of a cabin similar to his own.

  “Yep.”

He got out and went inside, returning a couple minutes later with a very happy Casper. Gabe waved at me from the doorway. I waved back before calling Evie up front to sit in my lap. I wasn’t sure how Casper would react to her and wanted to wait until we were at Jake’s cabin before we made the introductions.

Once there, I got out of the truck and let Evie down. Casper ran around the side and eagerly sniffed Evie who had gone stock still at the sight of the huge dog. It wasn’t long before Casper headed off into the trees and Evie trotted along behind him.

“Told you they’d be fine together,” Jake said, wrapping his arm around me.

“Well, I wasn’t sure. Evie can be a bit of a snob. I wasn’t sure she would be nice to him, not the other way around.”

He walked up the front porch and waited. “You coming in?”

  “I was waiting for Evie.”

“Casper will look out for her.”

I walked into the cabin and took a deep breath. I had only been gone a week, but seeing it brought back a flood of memories. So much had changed in a matter of eight days. When I had walked through that door that fateful evening, I had been in a horrible mood and assumed I was stuck with the worst man on the planet.

Now, here I was, walking in because I wanted to be in this place that had changed my life. I wanted to be with the man who had shown me what it was like to really live.

  “Look different?” he asked.

I shook my head. “Nope, just the same. Perfect.”

“Come sit down,” he said, grabbing my hand and leading me to the couch. This time, we sat close to one another. I had a feeling we would be sitting like that for a long time to come. I never wanted to be apart from him again.

  “This feels good,” I sigh
ed, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Even at my parents’ house in a quiet suburb, it had never been truly silent. You could still hear dogs barking in the distance, car engines and civilization in general. Everything was so much quieter and far more peaceful here on the mountain.

I closed my eyes and thought about Jake buying this place. I knew he had been in Iraq and I had a feeling that had been a very loud, chaotic environment. I understood why he sought solace on the mountain.

“Sit tight,” he said, getting up. “I’ll be right back.”

He disappeared into his bedroom. I looked around the cabin and imagined myself living there. It was a strange thought and a little scary, but I had a feeling it would be really good for my writing. I wouldn’t have all the distractions I had when I worked at home or at whatever coffee shop I popped into.

Having Jake around doing things to my body that were quite possibly illegal in many countries would also give me plenty of fodder for my stories.

He came out of the room carrying a small bag.

  “What’s that?” I asked.

He looked like he was going to pass out.

“Jake?” I asked, with real concern. “Are you okay?”

He nodded and dropped to his knees in front of me. I was really concerned then. I reached out and put my hand against his bearded jaw, comforting him anyway I could.

He pulled a ring from the bag, grabbed the hand I had against his face and slid the ring on my finger.

I stared at it, then him. I couldn’t speak.

“I guess we’re going to have to get married because I apparently can’t live without you,” he said, in a husky voice.

I blinked back the tears that welled in my eyes. “Jake,” I whispered his name.

“Calla, I love you. I never thought I could find love or that I was worthy of being loved. You showed me I could. I have to have you in my life. I need you. I want you by my side.”

I nodded, unable to talk around the giant lump of emotion in my throat. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t keep the tears from falling down my face. He leaned forward and kissed one cheek and then the other before using the pads of his thumbs to wipe away my tears.
