I sighed. “Great.” Not to mention the vampires weren't entirely fond of me, either, and who knew what they might throw at me? “Whatever. I'll deal with it when it happens.”
“That's all you can do,” Mary said, taking my hand.
“Well, isn't that sweet?” said a voice at the door.
We all looked up. A boy of around sixteen was leaning against the doorway.
He had purposely messy brown hair, through which he ran his fingers and I saw the Legion tattoo on his wrist. I braced myself for an attack.
Then his eyes met mine, and I recognized them. I gasped. “What's wrong?” he asked. “Aren't you glad to see me?”
“J-Josh?” I managed.
He smiled unpleasantly. “Just thought I'd say hi. I have a feeling things are about to get very interesting.” He took a step back from the door. “See ya later, Ally-gator.” He disappeared around the corner.
I ran to the doorway, but he was gone. I was having trouble breathing. I braced myself against the doorframe and slid to the floor, shock setting in. I heard Evan and Mary talking to me, but their voices were nothing more than distant echoes.
All I could think was, After while, Josh-odile.
