“Nice to hear, means the skin is sealing closed. Also tells me you haven’t had a lot of motion, which is good, less chance of rupture by keeping the pressure off it.” The doctor looked down at my chart and I looked over at Crusher.

“But I need some motion, doc. I’m going to combust if I don’t get any.” Crusher’s lips twitched.

“Well let’s get those stitches out then.” I laid back on the table and closed my eyes as the probing and prodding when on. It wasn’t long and he was finished and I was sitting up listening to him talk to me about therapy. “I will set up your therapy to start in two weeks. Though the incision area looks great, you still need to take it relatively easy, the vein and muscle are on the mend but aren’t one hundred percent. I’ll want to see you back in two weeks also but after your first therapy appointment. If all goes well, we’ll see about getting you back to the sheriff’s station. Until then, I’m recommending that you continue on your leave of absence.

“If you don’t have any questions, I’ll leave you to give the front desk your chart to get those appointments set up,” the doctor finished and when I didn’t have any questions he was out the door.

“Baby, that was good news,” Crusher said and helped me down off the table.

“I know it is. And I know I am lucky too. But, Crusher, with nothing to do I am going crazy.”

“Yeah, baby, we need to see if we can find you an activity to do to burn off some of that energy.” I didn’t even respond as we stopped at the desk and got the appointment cards from the receptionist and headed to the parking lot. After getting in the truck it didn’t take long for us to get back to the house.

“I’m going to have a beer and if you so much as tell me I can’t because I am taking pain meds. I swear, Crusher, I will get my gun and shoot you. I won’t even get sent to jail, it will be written off as a sexually frustrated woman snapped and killed the closest man, no female juror would convict me.” Crusher laughed and reached in his pocket for his ringing phone. He looked at the screen and hit the talk button.

“If you aren’t going to talk, then quit calling my fucking number.” Crusher disconnected the call. “Baby, Sami is supposed to stop by, when she gets here I am going to run to Black Hawk and have Coast see what he can find out on this caller.”

“Have you gotten a lot of them?” I knew he had gotten at least two while he was here taking care of me.

“About once a month for a couple months and now it seems we are down to weekly. I don’t know who it is. One time a woman did ask if I was Russell Davis. But when I asked who she was and why she wanted to know, she hung up.”

“Not a long lost girl friend?” I joked but Crusher just stared at me, walked toward me, and then placed a hand on each side of my face. With his eyes locked with mine, he bent and his mouth met mine and the only thought I had was ‘don’t stop’ as he devoured me. His tongue pressed in and met mine and our combined tastes were intoxicating.

Crusher’s hands moved from my face to travel down my arms and back up. He rubbed down my back until he reached my butt and then he picked me up, the skirt I wore bunched up and I wrapped my legs around him. He was gentle as he moved one of his hands off my butt to support my bad leg from underneath. Then my back hit the wall and he pressed his erection into my center. I shifted my hips and he groaned into my mouth, followed by my own moan when he rotated his hips and the hardness of his jean-covered cock slid across my panty-covered pussy and the friction had an orgasm building within me.

The kiss broke and Crusher began a journey down my neck with his lips, stopping in the crease where my neck met my shoulder and then his teeth scraped over my skin and I exploded. The orgasm hit with such force it left me lightheaded, my vaginal wall contracting. I shook in Crusher’s arms and then before I could fully comprehend, I was up in his arms as he walked toward the couch and sat me down.

I looked up into his eyes and the glow of desire reflected back at me. I reached for him, taking hold of the waist of his pants, pulling him closer. I reached for the zipper and he placed his hand over mine, stopping my movement.

“I hear Speed’s motorcycle coming, and trust me we don’t have time.” He stepped back and my hands dropped. “When I get inside you again, it will be a while before I come out. Rest up while I’m gone, you’re going to need every ounce of endurance you can gather.” The doorbell rang and Crusher opened the door and said hi to Sami as she walked in.

Crusher walked back to me and kissed my forehead. “I’ll be back in just a bit.” Then he was gone and Sami stood in front of me.

“Your face is flushed and Crusher ran out of here as if his pants were on fire.” Sami gave me that knowing look. When that happened in our youth, I learned how to deflect.

“Where is Spider bug? How come she didn’t come with you today?” I sat on the couch, my legs stretched out. Ally had come with Sami every time they came to visit.

“She wanted to stay at the house. More specifically the garage. The construction crew is putting up the extension and Flirt, Jag, Coast, and Devil are overseeing that while working on the bike they have started. I didn’t want to leave her there with all that going but the guys said it was alright and that every girl needed to know how to work on a bike. My daughter is turning into a miniature biker bitch.” I laughed.

“Oh, it can’t be that bad.” I laughed harder at the look on Sami’s face.

“Please, I forgot to tell you. It was when you were at Haven and Stroker and the other dads came back from their last trip. They brought her home a pair a leather pants, a leather vest, and black boots. Girl, I didn’t even know they made that stuff that small. And for men, they got the size just right.” Tears were running down my cheeks just imagining Ally dressed in the biker clothing.

“Sami, you have lost the princess title.” Sami rolled her eyes, she had always hated when the men at Haven called her that.

“That girl has them all wrapped around her finger. Carly, we both know women are accepted in the clubs but they have no say in how it is run, nor are they in the leadership. I don’t want her to get hurt.”

“Speed won’t let that happen. And neither will Crusher, Sami.”

“Listen to you. Where’s the girl who wanted no part of club life?” Sami cocked her eyebrow in question.

“She got a refresher course on what family is about.” I looked down at the pinkish scar on my leg.

“Carly, he’s good for you. Not that you asked me, but I thought I would tell you anyway.” Sami smiled.

I loved Sami like a sister, we’ve shared happy times and sad. “But am I good for him? That’s the question.” Sami shook her head at me.

“You’ve told me over the last two weeks everything you wouldn’t share before. Carly, you rose above that shit, don’t allow that to stop you from continuing to rise. Crusher is going to be the president of Black Hawk, his ol’ lady is going to have to be strong and willful in her own right. Crusher sees that in you, I see it in you, it’s time for you to see in yourself.” Tears filled my eyes and Sami came over and hugged me.

“He hasn’t said anything about making me his ol’ lady. This could be just a fling for him.” Sami stood and literally doubled over laughing and I frowned at her.

“Oh God, that felt good to laugh like that,” Sami said after she got herself under control. “What do you think he’s been doing? Huh, Carly?” She spread her arms out, “Here with you. The hospital. Everything from the time you left to go to Haven till now. What has he been doing?”

“He’s been taking care of me, that’s all.”

“Oh my God, you really don’t know. Did you expect him to give you an ultimatum like Speed gave me? He has maneuvered you. He might ask you to be his ol’ lady but, Carly, you have been that since he stayed with you at the hospital. He let you have your say, then if he thought it wouldn’t harm you, he gave you your way, if he didn’t like what you wanted to do, he worked it till it was something he could accept.

  “You accepted Sp
eed as your brother with no question. Accept what is between you and Crusher. Don’t analyze it. Just go with it.”

Sami was right, it was time to carve out my own piece of happiness. “Speaking of Speed, why didn’t he come in with you? Or did he have club business he needed to handle?”

“He visits Cutter’s grave when he needs to talk things out. He told me he’s done it since he got back. It helps him. He loved Cutter. I’ve noticed since I’ve been around the six of them more that underneath the tough, badass biker/ex-military men they are, there are six men who love as hard as they live. And if you are the woman they have chosen, there won’t be day that goes by that they won’t show you that you mean everything to them. Once you are taken into their fold, they will protect you with everything they have. They are who writers make stories about. Carly, we used to read those romance books with my mom, remember?” At my nod she continued, “Now we get live it instead of read about it.”

“How’d you get so smart, Sami?” I smiled and so did she. “Will you help me pack a few things to take to Crusher’s house?”

“Yes. I’m so happy for you, Carly.” We both stood and headed toward the stairs. “And before we head there, will you take me to Cutter’s grave? I think I’d like to meet my dad.”

“Carly, are you supposed to be doing so much on your leg?” Sami pulled Crusher’s truck off to the side behind Speed’s bike.

“I’m not putting any stress on it. I’ll be fine.” Sami stayed in the truck and I got out and walked toward the lone figure that was knelt down on his heels in front of the black granite headstone. Speed must have heard my approach ‘cause he stood but didn’t turn around. As I walked up next to him I read what was written on the headstone.

  “Cutter”

  Harvey Paul Weston

  Born – May 15, 1960

  Died – Feb. 29, 2016

“Cutter would have loved you, Carly.”

“Will you tell me about him, Speed.” I stepped closer and put my arm around his waist and he put his around my shoulder.

We stood together in front of our father’s grave as Speed told me about Cutter from the first time he could actually remember him. We laughed, we cried, and we stood as brother and sister and grieved—him for the loss of a man he loved—and me for the loss of a man I never got the chance to love.

When we turned to leave, we left behind any regret for time lost and brought with us the celebration of the time we had left.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Crusher

“What do you mean, nothing?” I asked Coast as he continued to hit the keys on one crazy ass computer setup.

“Exactly that. I tracked it as far as Georgetown, it bounces back to Washington, DC, then over to Virginia, up to Maryland, and back again. It is stuck in some loop and when you trace the number back it hits a wall.” Coast frowned at his screen. How he knew what that shit meant was way passed my knowledge of computers.

“Can you break through the wall?”

“Eventually but it will take some time. Not going to have a quick answer on this one, Crusher. Whoever the lady is that keeps calling, she’s got connections.” Coast typed a bunch of codes in and then hit enter and pushed the chair back to stand. “I’ll let that program run, might take a day or two before is returns anything useful. I’ll keep checking and let you know. Other than to bring me your phone, what’re you doing at Black Hawk when you should be locking down your woman.”

“Don’t worry about my woman. She’s been locked down, it just hasn’t hit her yet. Plus, I wanted to check in with my dad. He and I had been going over some of the club business and books, past and present, but with all the shit going on, I haven’t gotten to sit down with him lately.” Coast nodded, he knew exactly what I had been doing, he’d been doing the same with his dad, Cruz. We all had, each one of the dads were responsible for some aspect of the MC. No one man would ever be able to keep up with everything it took to keep a club running smoothly. Especially one Black Hawk’s size. For a club that started with six members, it had grown steadily over the years, reaching as high as fifty members at a given time. Men come and men go, some just looking for a place to call home. Black Hawk had picked up members from the area when they moved in. Men who enjoyed the comradery, liked to ride motorcycles, and were looking for the loyalty and support of a brotherhood.

“Fair enough, but watch when it does hit her, she carries a gun.” Coast laughed as we walked out of his house.

“Nah, I locked that up when we got back. A tempered woman, a gun, and the authority to fire it, is not a good combination.” We reached the garage behind Speed’s place, as we walked in Coast and I both stopped to stare at the sight.

Flirt, Jag, and Devil sat on the floor with Ally, each with their head bent down over a carburetor, and parts and tools spread around them. But what stopped us was Ally’s appearance, she was covered in grease.

“Shit, Sami is going to kill you.” I walked over and looked down at them. Coast stood beside me, his head shaking back and forth.

“Sami knows Spider was going to help us today. We are showing her the working parts of the carburetor, she was in charge of greasing the parts up.” Flirt shrugged his shoulders like no big deal.

“Uh...did she bathe in the grease?” Ally looked up at us and Coast was the first to laugh.

“Dudes, you are in some much trouble.” The guys stood at Coast’s words and when Ally stood and I got the full view of her, I laughed too. Her black hair was in a ponytail, with sections that had come out of the band that was holding it off her face. Black marks were streaked on her face and the parts of her arms, not covered by the t-shirt she wore, were in no better shape than her face. The little girl’s clothes, Sami would be better off burning than trying to wash. But the smile on Ally’s face might be the only thing that would keep Speed from joining in on Sami’s murders.

“Uncle Crusher, Uncle Coast, looks at my work. I’m helping put the carbeaters together.” Ally’s excitement was contagious.

“I see that. How’d you get all that grease on you?” I asked and she looked down at herself as if she didn’t know there was anything on her. Then she ran her hands down her shirt and jeans as if to dust off what she found. When she raised her head back up and looked at me, her hands went to her face and she pushed the loose strands of hair out of the way, smearing what grease she had on hands across her face.

“I helped Uncle Devil change the oil in his bike.” She gave me the look of ‘duh’ and I looked at Devil who just smirked. Yeah, see how long the brother would keep that look when the momma stood in front of him.

“Nice knowing you, fucker,” Coast said and I smacked him in the chest. We at least made an attempt to clean up our language when the kid was around. But when I looked back at her, waiting for her usual response when foul language was used, she had her hands held out. One in my direction and the other in Coast’s direction. When she spoke, I understood why we didn’t get corrected.

“Uncle Jag said that I could get cash for not rattings out the men when they said bad words. See.” She put her hand in her pocket and pulled out what looked like about five ones, then shoved them back in her pocket and held the hand she used back out to me. “I gots that just from Uncle Jag ‘cause he hurt his finger working on the bike and said a wholes bunches of bad words.” I looked at Jag and he shrugged.

“Look at it this way. Speed and Sami won’t have to come up with a shitload of cash for college.” I couldn’t argue there but I wasn’t going to stick around for the fireworks so I dug in my pocket and pulled out a dollar bill and handed it over. Coast did the same thing and we watched Ally look at the bills like she was checking to see if they were fake and then she smiled and shoved them in her pocket. Black Hawk’s own little shyster.

“I’m out. Going to see Stroker at the clubhouse. Nice knowing you dumbasses.” I headed for the door. “Spider, I don’t have any more ones, I’ll have to owe you.”

“Hey, you aren’t going to hel
p us? How are we supposed to get her cleaned up,” Flirt yelled.

“My suggestion. A strip down on the porch and a scrub in the shower.” I walked out and didn’t look back, but I did laugh at the panicked voices yelling behind me.

“We can’t bathe a little girl!”

I approached the door to Stroker’s office and knocked. The muffled voices I heard in the office quieted.

  “Who is it?” Stroker yelled.

“Just me, Prez.” I heard shuffling noises and then Flyboy, Jag’s dad and VP, opened the door to me. I walked in and Stroker sat at the table in the back of the room with Cruz, Romeo, and Preacher, the table had files spread out. It didn’t escape me that Flyboy didn’t sit back down but continued to stand by the door.

“Need something, Crusher?” Stroker asked as he closed the file in front of him.

“Checking in. Had some time if you wanted to go over some things. I can get the others to come over from the garage to help with whatever that mess is in front of you.” With the amount of files spread out, I wondered if we had any issues going on with any of the club’s businesses.

“No, you boys do whatever you got going on. We got this covered.” The others looked at Stroker, and then back at me. I could take a fucking hint, so I turned back toward the door.

“Call if you need me.” I walked passed Flyboy and he started to close the door.

“Crusher?” I stopped and turned back around. “The ol’ ladies and Daisy are cooking up stuff for a cookout for tomorrow after Church, let the others know.”

I didn’t reply, just nodded, turned, and headed down the hall, the sound of the door being shut and the lock being engaged followed me. Seemed like being away from Black Hawk the last couple of weeks had changed the dynamics. I shrugged the feeling of unease away and walked through the clubhouse and out the door. There was time to worry about that shit later. I was going to my house to grab a few things and head back to Carly’s. I needed to apologize for mauling her against the wall after her doctor’s appointment. She still needed to take it easy and I had lost a little of my control. Christ, if I hadn’t heard Speed’s bike coming down the street, I would have taken her against that damn wall, injured or not. Unacceptable.
