Shattered (Shattered Souls MC Book 1) Page 8

by Heather Dahlgren

I decided today Harper and I are getting the hell away from here. We’re going to have dinner with my mom and we’ll spend the night at my house. She needs to be away from the club, maybe that’s the problem. I know I need to be away from Brooks before I put a bullet in his fucking head.

A light knock on the door grabs my attention and I open it. “We need you at the table,” Porter says, glancing in at Harper.

I nod and close the door on him, grabbing my smokes and kneeling down by Harper. “I don’t know if you’re awake or not, but I need to go take care of some stuff. I’ll be back soon,” I whisper and kiss the top of her head. She doesn’t move, but I’m still not sure she’s asleep. With a sigh, I walk out, locking the door behind me.

I get to the table and we sit around waiting on Kace and Reid to get here. “What’s up?” I ask Brooks.

“Reid said they need us at the table,” he says, leaning back in his chair.

Reid called him and Kace didn’t call me. What the fuck is going on? I’m starting to feel like I’m being left out of something and it’s pissing me off. Before I can say anything, Kace and Reid come rushing in.

“This better be good, I need to meet with the realtor,” Brooks says.

He’s meeting with the realtor again? I focus on him, watching the way his eyes are averting everyone else’s. He’s a lying piece of shit.

“We saw a few of Kingsley’s guys, it looked like they were heading to the airport. I think maybe it’s time to make our move on Club Kingsley,” Reid says.

My eyes fly to Kace’s and he gives me a slight shake of his head, silently telling me to shut up.

“Picking up a drop off at the airport?” Porter questions.

“No way, that doesn’t make any sense. They aren’t that careless and they’d never leave the club completely unattended. There are innocents there,” Alex says.

I’m fucking confused and about to say just that when Brooks sits forward. “Maybe we should interfere with the shipment,” he says, a grin starting to spread across his face.

“And if they aren’t on their way to the airport? If it’s not a shipment they are getting?” I question.

“We figured with most of them out of Club Kingsley, we can get in, try to find something and get out,” Kace says.

“It’s too risky,” Brooks says, shaking his head.

“That’s too risky, but trying to steal their drugs isn’t?” Reid hisses.

“What would you want to do that for anyway? We’re pussy, not drugs,” Alex says.

I look at Kace and he narrows his eyes at Brooks. Something is going on and I’m gonna find out what.

“What the fuck is going on? Brooks and Enzo are meeting with the realtor almost daily now. Who’s the realtor?” I ask, lighting a smoke.

It’s dead quiet, no one moves and I swear no one is breathing. I’m obviously not the only one with questions.

Brooks stands and leans his hands on the table. “What the fuck are you trying to ask?”

I laugh and slowly stand. “Are you doing shit that wasn’t voted on?”

He lunges across the table and grabs me by my collar. I swing and connect with his jaw, pushing him off and he hits the wall. He comes at me, but Enzo grabs him and Kace grabs me.

“Enough,” Enzo yells. “You two have been at each other’s throats for months now. Cut the fucking shit.”

“This club is nothing if we don’t have honesty,” I hiss.

“You’re right, it’s not. But there’s no secret shit going on. Everything that happens in the club is voted on. Nothing happens outside these walls that you or anyone else isn’t aware of. The hate you have for your uncle needs to end, he’s the fucking president,” Enzo says.

I look around the room and everyone is standing. I push Kace off of me and straighten my shirt. “So, what the fuck is going on?”

“I’m sorry, but I’m with Z on this one. Shit has been off, we need answers,” Reid says.

“Sit,” Brooks yells, violently yanking his chair back up from the floor. “I would never do anything without a vote, if you are questioning that, you are questioning my leadership. Enzo and I have been working our asses off to try and get this business another location. We keep getting the run around. The realtor will send us to one location and it’s an empty lot. Next time it’s in the middle of the fucking desert. One time it was a drug house. It’s pissing me off and I’m trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. I don’t trust her. She’s on someone else’s payroll and we were trying to figure out who,” Brooks explains.

“Son of a bitch,” Alex whispers.

  “Fuck,” Kace says.

“So why not tell us?” Porter asks. I look to him and nod. It’s exactly what I was thinking.

When I turn back to Brooks, he looks to Enzo who lifts an eyebrow. “Christ,” Brooks whispers and looks directly at me. “I blamed you, alright? I told Enzo that I was sure Harper had something to do with it. I really thought she was sending us around to make us look like assholes.”

My blood boils and my hands fist on the table. “But now?” I ask through clenched teeth.

“We followed the realtor, she dropped something in the mail. We waited until she left and grabbed it. It was a letter written to her ex-husband, telling him how she’s got the Shattered Souls by the balls and is going to take us down. We looked into it and guess who it was? Fucking Axel Bishop,” Enzo explains.

We all start to laugh and finally Brooks is a little more like his normal asshole self. I think of Axel Bishop. He was a member and left because Brooks threatened to beat his ass for not wanting to do things with us. He thought we would just sit around, drink, and get pussy. Once he realized it was more than that, he left. Scared, he moved out of state. Obviously we know where, but he’s no threat. His ex-wife was probably trying to get him back or some shit. But with the realization, a bit of weight is lifted off my shoulders.

“I’m sorry, Z,” Brooks says, slapping me on the shoulder.

I don’t say anything, just give a shake of my head. They all continue talking, but I’m no longer paying attention. I figure now that Brooks got that off his chest, he’ll give Harper a little respect. Something that will make her feel like she belongs. Without it, we’ll never get anything from her.

“We’re hiring a new realtor, but I figured Porter and Alex might like to go tell Mrs. Bishop she’s fired.”

Fired, dead, same thing. I’m just glad it wasn’t me he asked. I still want to take Harper to my mom’s and considering we’ve been at this table for a few hours already, I’d like to get back to her.

After Brooks tells us to leave, I grab Kace in the hallway and pin him with my hard gaze. “What the fuck?”

“If I told you, you would’ve gone in there gun drawn. I had to get him to admit everything,” he says.

  “So you fucking knew?”

“No, but I knew something was up. I figured if I could get him to admit he thought it was Harper, maybe you could at the very least beat the truth out of him,” he says with a chuckle.

“You’re an asshole,” I say, pushing him as I walk by. “Fucking smart though,” I toss over my shoulder as I go back to Harper.

When I enter the room, she’s freshly showered and dressed. My dick throbs when I see her. She’s got on tight jeans with rips in all the right places, a black shirt that only has one arm, and heels that make her legs look even longer. Her brown hair is down her back in waves, her blue eyes pop against her makeup, but it’s her sexy grin that finishes it off.

I rush to her and pull her in my arms. “You look hot,” I whisper, biting her ear.

“We need to talk,” she says, digging her fingers into my chest.

I pull back and her eyes bounce between mine. “What’s up?”

She pushes up on her toes and her lips gently touch mine. “I’m gonna stay here for a while. If that’s alright with you.”

“Babe, you don’t need to ask me. I’d like you here always.” I kiss her full l
ips, but pull back. “What’s going on?”

She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “Nothing, I just want to spend more time with you. If it’s a big deal, I’ll stay at my place.” She pulls out of my grip and walks over to the chair to sit down.

“I just said I want you here, it’s just a surprise is all. But I’ve told you from the beginning I’d rather have you coming,” I say, slowly making my way toward her.

She lightly laughs and stands. “Do you have plans today?”

I want to push her, ask her what the fuck is going on. She’s avoiding me and my questions. I don’t like that shit. It means she’s hiding something. But, I figure I’ll give her the day and tonight, I’ll force her to talk.

“We have plans today. We’re going to my mom’s for dinner. I just need to grab a quick shower and we’ll head over.”

We haven’t said much since we left the club. She’s unusually quiet and it’s giving me a bad feeling. I grab her hand when we get to my mom’s door and pull her to me. “I’m giving you the day, but tonight, we’re gonna talk.”

Before she can say anything, my mom opens the door. “Thank fuck,” she mumbles.

“Hey, Adalyn, how are you?” Harper asks, pulling my mom in for a hug.

“Better now that you guys are here. Being stuck here with members and prospects, is not my idea of fun.”

We push inside and I close the door. “It’s for your protection, Ma.”

“I know,” she says, wrapping her arms around me. “My sweet boy.”

We move into the kitchen and she tells us to sit down. After pouring us all coffee, checking on the roast she has in the oven, and giving a water to Finn, telling him to go sit outside, she sits down.

I laugh and wrap my arm around the back of Harper’s chair. “Ma, relax.”

She looks at my arm and back at me. “What’s going on with you two?”

I feel Harper stiffen at my side and I rub her shoulder with my thumb. “We’re together.”

The surprised look on her face quickly turns to sadness. “You both know how dangerous this is. I know you have a connection, but have you thought it through?”

Harper surprises me by talking first. “Adalyn, I can’t speak for Zane, but as for me, I know the coincidences.” She looks at me and her eyes soften. “I also know that I tried to stay away and it’s impossible. My life isn’t worth living without him.”

“You’ll both be killed,” she says, burying her face in her hands.

I get up and move to my mom. I squat next to her and rest my hand on her slim shoulder. “Ma, the club knows,” I whisper.

Her head snaps up and she searches my eyes. “Brooks knows?”

“Yeah, they all do. I’m protected and I’ll always protect Harper. You don’t need to worry.”

“I’m not naive to this life, Zane. Please, don’t act like that makes it all better,” she says.

Harper reaches across the table and grabs her hand. “Adalyn, I know it’s my father you worry most about. I’m not gonna sit here and tell you not to worry, hell I’m worried. But, I can tell you that I’ll kill my father before I let anything happen to Zane.” Both my mother and I turn our heads to Harper. “You have my word.”

“Damn, babe, trying to get me all worked up in front of my mom,” I say, moving back toward her. I slam my mouth to hers and sink my fingers into her soft hair.

“Fuck, enough. Alright, I get it. I’ll try to stop worrying so much. Get off her, Zane,” my mom yells.

We break apart and all three of us start to laugh. The tension is lifted and we can move on to other things.

We spend hours talking about when Harper and I were young. She tells stories about how my father would sneak around to make sure we were both safe. Admitting that he saw something between us that was worth the danger. She’s never told me that before, but it makes me grin. My old man was someone I idolized. He was the complete opposite of Brooks. The club was at an all time high when he was president. It was him who really got the strip club as big as it is now. He brought in the money and respect. He didn’t demand it like Brooks, he earned it. So knowing he’d be alright with this, even if the situation isn’t exactly what it appears, means a lot.

Harper tells us about her six months away and I sit in fascination listening to her. She really was trying to pull away, move on with a completely different life.

“Why did you come back? You seem to have started something good?” my mom asks.

I asked her the same question when I first saw her. “I just couldn’t stay away. I missed it.”

“Missed your club or missed Zane?” my mom pushes.

Harper slides her eyes to me and I try to read them. She’s so damn good at hiding shit, I can’t always read her so easily. “It was Zane, it’s always been for Zane.”

My lips tip up on one side and I press a soft kiss to her temple. “I knew it,” I whisper.

A few hours later we are getting ready to leave. “Thanks for dinner, Ma.”

She pulls me in for a hug and kisses my cheek. She grabs Harper next and holds her tightly. “You take care of my sweet boy.”

  “I promise,” she says.

We get back to my place and we barely make it through the door before I push her up against the wall. I lick the seam of her lips and she opens right up to me. The minute our tongues collide, it’s explosive. She’s pulling at my shirt and I’m sliding her pants down. Once I have them off, I lift her and she wraps her legs around me. My fingers dig into her ass as my lips move to her neck. I suck, lick, and bite at her sensitive skin. She moans and I dig my fingers in tighter when she rubs her pussy against my zipper. My teeth sink into her shoulder as I carry her to my bedroom.

I sit her on the bed, while I pull my own clothes off. I have no patience to wait, I need to feel her now. She must read my thoughts or feel the same way, because she takes off the rest of her clothes as well. I push her down on the bed and run my nose up her dripping cunt. I suck her clit in my mouth and her back arches off the bed. I feast on her, eating her pussy like it’s my final meal. I reach up with one hand and palm her tits, before pinching her hard nipple. Her moans are getting louder as I twist and pull on each nipple while my tongue lashes against her. I push two fingers into her, her tight heat welcoming a third. I finger fuck her hard, her body reacting to every push and pull. She’s close so I suck her throbbing bundle in my mouth and when I bite down, she explodes around me.

I don’t even let her recover before I slam my rock solid cock into her. “Fuck,” I hiss. I pull her legs up, resting them on my shoulders and lean forward, my dick going deeper, filling her. She’s clawing at my shoulders and back, leaving her mark. I pound her, her hand slamming against the headboard. I can’t slow down, I need it hard. I need to feel in control. And she is giving me exactly what I crave. I grab a hold of the headboard and hit her spot over and over, harder and faster. The deeper I go, the louder she screams.

“Look at me,” I growl. She obeys instantly. Her eyes are full of heat, heavy with desire. “Your cunt feels so good, babe. So fucking wet and tight.”

“Oh fuck,” she groans, reaching down and pinching her nipples.

I’m frantic, fucking her, pounding her so hard and deep, hoping she’s sore for days. Her breathing is picking up, her chest is pushing forward. Her pussy gripping me so tight. I reach down and rub her clit, evoking a scream from her.

“Fuck yes, come on me. Cover me in your juices,” I hiss.

With her eyes locked on mine, she shouts my name as her orgasm rips through her. I keep it going as I continue to slam into her. I feel my balls tightening and I know I can’t hold off much longer.

“Zane, I want to feel you come inside me,” she moans out.

Her sexy voice does me in and I shoot my release into her. I stiffen as it seems to be endless, while she continues to shudder beneath me.

I let her legs drop and roll us over so she’s pressed against my chest. We lay silently, recovering. My hand lazily
runs up and down her arm, as hers moves in circles around my chest. She leans forward and kisses the tattoo that symbolizes my club. I hold her tighter, knowing how difficult that is for her.

After a while, both of us lost in thought, I kiss the top of her hair. “I need you to talk to me now, babe. I need to know what’s going on.”

Just as I say it, my cell rings. I groan reaching it off the floor and answer it. “What?” I yell.

“Meet me at Souls, now,” Kace hisses and hangs up.

Fuck. I meet Harley’s eyes and she knows. “I’ll be back. I’ll lock up, but my gun is in the drawer next to you.”

She pushes on her elbows watching me dress. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”

I lean down and grab her hair, kissing her gently. “I love you, babe.”

  “I love you, Z.”

I rush out of the house, double checking everything is locked. I park in front of Souls and step inside to look for Kace. He grabs my arm and pulls me to the corner by the door. “We’ve got a problem,” he says.

“What?” I ask, lighting a smoke. He holds up a mask and I grab it from him. “Where the fuck did this come from?” Anger is rolling off of me.

He swallows and looks away before meeting my eyes. “Harper’s car.”

  What.The.Fuck.

  Chapter 12

  Harper

I wake up, still naked and grab my phone. It’s after nine in the morning and Zane still isn’t back. I take my time getting up, grab a shower, and put my clothes back on from yesterday. I look down and realize I need to go to my place for some fresh clothes. I call Zane, but it goes right to his voicemail. Sometimes I wish I didn’t know this world, because the thoughts running through my mind of what he could be doing, give me chills.

I decide to make some breakfast and coffee. Holding out hope that he’ll be home soon. I look around his house and smile. Nothing has changed. It’s older than mine, but still nice. I sit at the table waiting for my toast. A rush of memories flood me. When he bought this house and proudly showed it to me the first time. The sex we’ve had on every surface. The fight we had that drove me away.
