She flashed a sassy smile. “But he wears it so well.”
He growled and pinched her bottom. She laughed and twisted away.
“Even Iram could see you preferred me.”
“Keep telling yourself that.”
He pulled her into his arms and pressed his lips over hers. “Tell me you love me.”
“You say it first.” She tried to continue the kiss, but he eased away.
“I already did.”
“Telepathically doesn’t count. You have to say the words out loud.”
“Why’s that?”
She shrugged. “Because I say so.”
“I love you, Bryce, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He saturated her senses with affection, making sure she took him seriously.
“I love you too.”
He took her hand and interlaced their fingers. “Let’s get out of here.” They walked toward the lift leading to the multilevel shuttle lot. The lift angled up and to the side in a smooth, sustained motion. Hundreds of commuters left their spacecraft in the enclosure and took the tram into the city. “Did we decide on our destination?”
“It makes no difference to me.” The lift door slid open, and they headed toward their rented shuttle. “You’re the one who has to find employment.”
“And being the infamous Toymaker’s surgeon should open interesting doors.” As if to illustrate his claim, they reached their shuttle and he scanned open the hatch.
“You’re a highly qualified surgeon.”
“So long as you want a penile enhancement or sexual implants.”
She smiled. “A little tired of the same old routine?”
“To say the least.”
She led him toward the tiny aft cabin. “Thanks to Akim’s inadvertent generosity, we have enough interstellar credits to do whatever we want. You can take your time and find exactly the right position.”
“I think we should work on finding the perfect position before we take off.” The cabin door slid open, and he looked at the narrow bunk. “This could be a challenge.”
“I’m up for a challenge. Are you?”
“Have a seat and I’ll show you.”
