There was something around her neck. It looked like a shock collar, two prongs going into her neck that looked tight on her.
“Jesus.” Tom whispered, shaking his head when he moved over to her so that he could see the picture.
Mark looked over at the both of them, not sure that he could look at Kellie the way she was. Knowing that it had to be bad if Tom couldn't believe what he was seeing.
“Come here.” Jamie looked up at Mark, seeing that he was scared just by looking into his eyes. Scared to see what she looked like.
“She's still alive.” Tom nodded his head at him.
Mark put his coffee cup down beside the television and walked slowly over to Tom. Looking down at the laptop as he got closer to them.
Jamie turned the laptop finally and watched Mark as he looked at the screen. He didn't know what to say about it. He looked at it along time before he said anything at all.
“He's sending you a message through her. She must be so scared right now.” Mark whispered to them, turning away from the laptop so that he wouldn't have to see the picture anymore.
“When we call the police, when we know where to go and what time then we can show them that she is still alive. We're going to have to show them this picture. The back has white walls so she has to be in some kind of a room. She wouldn't be outside.” Jamie pointed out, turning the laptop so that she could see the picture again.
“Right.” Mark nodded his head, grabbing his cup of coffee again and taking a sip of it.
Jamie knew that he was glad to see that Kellie was still alive, he just didn't like how she looked. The killer didn't seem to care that he was hurting her.
“Everything is going to be alright. We'll get her back.” Jamie whispered to him.
“You don't know that. We don't know that. He could kill if he wants to. You know she's not going to shut her mouth. If anything she is going to sit there and run her mouth more because he has her.” Mark muttered.
“Maybe not, I am sure she's just as scared as we are. I am sure that she doesn't know what is going to happen to her. Unless she was already told that we are changing places.” Jamie pointed out to him.
“That would make her upset. Really upset. I think that would piss her off.” Mark grumbled, not sure if of what she was saying to whoever had her.
“I know but she's going to be happy to see us when we get to wherever she is. Sure she's mad now but if we can all get out of there she's going to be happy to us again.” Jamie told him softly. She knew that he was worried about her, they all were.
“We wouldn't be in this mess as is if we hadn't gone snooping around.” Mark reminded her. They could have all been together right then and no one would have to go in search for her.
“We don't know that for sure. We don't know that one of us wouldn't be missing right now. Like they said they've been watching us.” Jamie reminded him, she didn't want him to feel so bad about what had happened. It might have happened anyways.
“We are going to make this right. Somehow we are going to make it right so that Jamie doesn't have to turn herself over and we can still get Kellie. There has to be a way.” Tom told them, going over to the window and peeking out the shade, he didn't see anyone there, the sun was shining and he saw that it had rained through the night because the parking lot was still wet and there were little puddles.
“I think that we should have the cops come over here now. We are going to have to tell them not to bring attention to themselves because if they are really watching they will know why the police are here. We don't need to bring more trouble to Kellie.” Mark wanted the police there in case they got an email right off and they could go find her. They would at least have the back up that they needed.
“I will call Davidson and explain what is going on. He will know what to do.” Jamie nodded her head, going into the bathroom with her cell phone so that she could make the phone call.
“We will get through this you know that right?” Tom looked at Mark over his shoulder.
“I know, that's what we keep saying but we don't know that for sure. No one can tell the future Tom and I think that is what scares me the most. At any moment Kellie could be dead. I don't want the police here but we have to have them here. The sooner we find out where she is and go get her the better off we are and as is Jamie was told not to tell anyone. She had already broken that rule and he still has her alive.” Mark pointed out to him, thinking back to the letter that they hard read that morning.
“She sure couldn't keep it to herself and I think they know that. Its hard for her to sneak off and go somewhere without us knowing about it. We are a team and there's no way we would have let her go alone anyways. She had to tell us.” Tom explained to him, seeing that Mark wasn't fighting with him about it. He was glad that Jamie had gone to them when she woke up.
“We can't let her go anywhere by herself. She's the one he wants. The only one he wants out of the group we all know that. Well, not sure if Kellie knows that because we aren't with her but us three know that.” Mark knew the second that Jamie was in sight by herself that they were going to nab her, probably kill her off quickly so that the job was done.
“Why though? Why is all this happening? We don't know the answer to that either.” Tom whispered, not wanting to talk anymore about it.
“Why didn't Kellie give the person her number? Why her email address?” Mark didn't answer him. He had no answers so he asked his own questions.
“That's a good question. Maybe she made a deal with him. Maybe she knew that he could track her through the cell phone to find out where we are. Trying to help us out.” Tom could see Kellie doing that. Fighting with the killer about what information she was going to give out.
“Yeah. She's a fighter when she has to be, or when she thinks she has to be.” Mark grinned a little and shook his head.
“I know. If we knew why he wanted Jamie to begin with then we would know why all this is happening. That's the main question that we need answered.” Tom muttered, glad that he could get a small smile out of Mark. He saw the hope in Mark's eyes though he didn't say anything verbally he was glad that there was something on Kellie.
Jamie came out of the bathroom with the phone in her hand. She hadn't put it back in her pocket and she didn't have a smile on her face.
“Did you get a hold of anyone?” Mark asked her.
“Yeah. Davidson said they would come over in his every day car. That way it looks like we have company instead of the cops being here. He's not bringing Charles. He's on a different mission I guess. Instead he's going to bring someone who is use to things like this.” Jamie shrugged her shoulders.
“Oh. Maybe the FBI then.” Mark guessed.
“Maybe. There is something that he had said to me though that really gets me worried.” Jamie figured she might as well tell them since they were going to find out anyways.
“What's that?” Tom looked over at her. His eyes intent on her and what she had to say.
“He wants us to know that there's no grantee that we are going to get Kellie back. That some killers talk about making a trade and in the end both of them get killed. So there is no grantee that Kellie is going to be let go when I pretend to take her place.” Jamie was a little disappointed that Davidson had brought it to the light. Something that she really hadn't thought about.
“He's right. We can't get our hopes up too much. This person isn't nice, they are a cold, hard, killer and that's the way we need to think. We saw those photo's.” Tom agreed with Davidson. There were no grantees on anything.
“I didn't see them, I'm glad that I didn't see them.” Mark admitted to them.
“I know. I am surprised that I didn't have nightmares last night. I think that knowing Kellie was alright last night that put my mind at ease. For now she is okay.” Jamie had to keep them on the right track.
“For now. Until its found out that the police are helping us out on this.” Mark pointed a finger at her.
“There is not
hing else we can do. Nothing. You already said we couldn't go at this alone.” Jamie huffed, there was no way to do it the way it was suppose to be done.
“Lets just hope that they aren't really watching.” Mark whispered, thinking that Kellie would be killed anyways if they saw that help was on the way.
“I am sure they are. They saw the police already, you know that. It was in the letter.” Jamie grunted.
She went back to the laptop and saw that there was another picture message waiting for her. She opened it quickly and as if the room was bugged they got the answer that they were looking for.
There was a picture of Kellie with fear in her eyes, a knife held tightly to her throat. Her eyes were red from crying and then another picture came through of the picture of the hotel that they were at.
I'm not messing around Jamie. I'm not kidding. No cops and you come alone.
Jamie read the message out loud to them. There was nothing about not telling Mark and Tom. She showed them the recent pictures that had come in. Though there was no message as to where to meet or go.
“Well I hate to break it to him you aren't going anywhere alone.” Tom glared out the window and up at the sky as if it was the skies fault for what was going on.
“Then how the hell are we going to do this?” Jamie asked, glaring at his back.
“I don't know yet. I don't know.” Tom repeated himself softly.
“There is no other way Tom. If they are watching us like these pictures suggest then there is no way that I can go without them seeing you are right there with me.” She pointed out to him angrily.
“Jamie, I don't know what to say okay. The last thing I want to do is lose you.” Tom told her, throwing his hands up in the air and turning around to face her.
“I know that, I want to stay alive too. I don't know how we are going to do this either. We have to do one of the things that we are told to do. If we don't do at least one of things that is demanded he just might kill her without telling me where to meet.” Jamie muttered she didn't want Kellie to die because they couldn't follow instructions.
“Like Davidson said you both could get killed. You could be going into a trap Jamie. He could kill her whenever he wants to and then you go to wherever he wants you and he gets what he wants.” Tom shook his head.
“Well I guess that's the chance we are going to have to take.” Jamie didn't know what else to tell him. She couldn't give him comforting words. She didn't have any words that would comfort him and make him feel better about what was going on.
“We could call this all off is what we can do. Kellie wouldn't want you going in there if you are going to die. She probably knows more then we do and she can't reach us obviously.” Mark spoke up. He wanted Kellie back more then anything but if came down to another friend dying he was sure that Kellie wouldn't want anyone going after her.
“No, that's not an option. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that there might be a chance to save her. Why would he be keeping her alive just to kill her when he gets what he wants. He gets me.” Jamie explained to him quickly.
Before Tom could fight with her about it there was a knock on the door. Tom went to the window and saw that there was a taxi out front.
“I don't know if this is for us but there's a taxi out front. I thought you said that Davidson was bringing his own car?” Tom asked her, not taking his eyes off the window.
“That's what he said.” Jamie sighed heavily.
Tom watched as a man got out of the taxi in a black suit. The man had black hair pulled back into a small ponytail. He carried a brief case like he was a business man. A little taller shorter then Tom, the man had a pale face and far from having a smile on his face.
“Then I don't know who this.” Tom shook his head, sighing himself as he watched Mark go to the door. Taking the gun out of his pants and pointing it at the door.
There was a light knock on the door, none of them said anything. They heard the knock again and Tom moved away from the window to go to the door. Knowing that Mark had his back and was ready to shoot at any moment he cleared his throat.
“Who is it?” Tom asked roughly against the door.
“Davidson sent me over.” The man replied back to him in a business tone of voice.
“You still didn't explain who you were.” Tom muttered, he was done playing games.
Tom went back to the window and the man saw him. Taking something out of his pocket he put an Identification card against the window.
Tom read that his name was Allen Woodward from the FBI. He nodded his head and let the shade fall into place as he went to the door and unlocked it.
“Sorry about that, we have to be careful on who we let in.” Tom explained to him as he shut the door behind him.
Allen nodded his head and saw that Mark still had the gun pointed in his direction. Seeing that Mark meant business.
“Put the gun down.” Allen told him as calmly as he could.
“Not until we can verify that you are who you say you are. Jamie get on the phone with Davidson. I am sure that this man won't mind at all considering all the hell we are going through.” Mark kept his eyes on him.
Jamie quickly dialed Davidson's number and it rang four times. Thinking that he wasn't going to pick up at all and she was going to get a voice mail she heard his voice right before she was going to hang up the phone.
“A man is here. Says that you sent him.” She said into the phone.
“Yes, Allen Woodward. He should have an I.D to state who he is.” Davidson said calmly. Wishing that he could be there right that second but knew that he had to get a ride home to get his car and then head over.
“We just wanted to check with you and make sure.” Jamie nodded her head in Mark's direction. Seeing him lower the gun slowly.
“I will be there as soon as I can.” Davidson promised her.
Jamie talked to him for a few more seconds and then flipped her phone shut. Going back to the bed to sit down.
“I am sorry about this but you need to understand that we've been through a lot.” Tom apologized when Mark put his gun back into the waist band of his pants.
“I understand completely. This isn't the first time I've found myself in this kind of situation.” Allen gave him a small smile.
“Its the first time for us.” Tom muttered with the nod of his head.
They watched as Allen put his brief case down on the bed and unlocked it. Seeing all sorts of gadgets in it.
“I thought that it would be good that we allow Jamie to go to the meeting place and make it look like she really is by herself. Davidson caught me up to speed before I got here.” Allen explained to them without looking up at them.
“What do you mean by look like she's by herself? If we aren't there with her we aren't going to let her do this at all.” Tom decided right then and there, he had made up his mind that he wasn't going to let Jamie do it on her own.
“With all hopes we can have this done in a matter of hours. We are going to put a wire on her. Hide out where we can be the closest to her if anything goes wrong.” Allen told him as quickly as possible.
“If they find the wire she's dead. There will be no exchange and there will be no chance of getting both of the girls out of there alive.” Mark didn't know how dumb the FBI was. It was a big disappointment.
“There's a new thing that we have come up with.” Allen showed them something that looked like a regular watch.
“Nice, what is it suppose to do?” Jamie asked him, going over to him.
“This thing here on the back. It has to stay open. So there is no backing. Right there looks like a small watch battery but its a speaker so that we can hear you. You won't be able to communicate with us but we can hear everything that's going on around you.” Allen explained, flipping the watch over and showing all of them the speaker that looked like a small watch battery.
“You said that you've been through something like this before. How good does that work?” Tom asked h
im, making sure that it wasn't going to fail them.
“We've used watches like this before and they have never failed us.” Allen assured him that it wasn't going to fail them this time.
“Can I try it on and see if it fits?” Jamie asked him.
“Sure, hold out your wrist.” Allen instructed her.
Jamie held out her wrist for him to put it on her. She moved her wrist around a little and it fit her perfectly. It wasn't tight at all.
“Good.” She nodded her head and he took it off of her.
“Why did you bring all of this if you only needed the watch?” Mark asked, not buying it. Knowing that something could go wrong at any moment.
“Well I have to see what would be best. We know that when she goes in there that they are going to check and see if she's wearing a wire. That's what most killers do. Even if there are no cops around they want to make sure that no one has followed her or knows where she is. We are going to let her go to the location by herself when it comes through. We will be watching her so we will know where is at all times. We are thinking that he's going to have her meet somewhere and then take her to where the real location where Kellie is. That is the most crucial time, they are going to see if they are being followed.” Allen explained to them.
“And if they see us then they are going to kill her right then and there.” Mark muttered, knowing that it could end before they even got it started.
“This is a trained profession we aren't going to get caught.” Allen tried to assure him.
“Can you promise that we aren't going to get caught?” Mark raised his eyebrows at him. Not liking him already.
“There are no promises. No I can't promise that.” Allen whispered to him, wishing that he could as he looked at the three of them and seeing that they were scared.
“Right.” Mark shook his head and sat down on the edge of his bed.
“I'm going to check and see if there are any more messages. If they know you are here we will find out soon enough.” Jamie told him.
There was another knock on the door and Tom went for the window. Seeing that it was Davidson he had a smile on his face as he went to the door and opened it.
