“I have to get going in an hour. Would you like to take a little walk before I do?” Sylvain asked.

Taryn couldn’t hide her disappointment. She didn’t want him to go, although she understood why he’d have to. What would life be like with a long distance relationship? Could that even work?

Holding hands and walking slowly, the two walked toward the end of one of the fields along a path. At the end it overlooked a valley and was really quite an amazing sight. The massive rolling hills in the distance couldn’t hide their green shades, unlike the Vegas mountain ranges that seemed to be shades of brown and tan.

“I’ve really enjoyed this weekend,” Taryn said. “Despite not being as intimate with you as what I had been.”

“That was hard, but it was the honorable thing to do in your parent’s house. The dishonorable part of me wanted to strip you right down and make love to you fast and furiously,” Sylvain said.

“I understand that. It’s been a long time since I had to relieve myself from the built up tensions I’ve had from your suggestive little remarks.”

Sylvain laughed. “You really are bold, my little minx. And insanely brilliant and beautiful. I seriously don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“I’ll still be your buyer if you like. We can find a way to make it work,” Taryn said casually.

“I’m not worried about that, Taryn. What I’m worried about is what is clearly missing in my life when you are not right at my side. That’s what I’m worried about.” He never looked more serious or scared since Taryn knew him.

Taryn turned to Sylvain and stopped walking. She smiled at him and squeezed his hand.

There was a walnut tree right behind them and Sylvain suddenly dropped down to his knee and kept holding Taryn’s hand. Her eyes widened, not knowing what to make of it. It was surprising, that was for sure.

Sylvain clearly looked nervous and he slid his one hand into his pocket and fumbled around a bit. You could see him shaking. He eventually pulled out a box and freed his other hand from Taryn’s grasp and opened it up.

“Taryn Summers, I guessed I’ve loved you from the first moment I laid eyes on you. I didn’t want anyone else touching you, holding you, or loving you. I’ve fallen hard for you, and there is only one way to cure this misery of missing you and wanting you so much. Will you marry me?”

Taryn’s eyes widened and she seriously thought she was imagining what she’d just heard for a second. It shocked her and it was the last thing she thought she’d be hearing on this casual stroll before Sylvain left.

“What? Why?” Those were the only words she could get out and they were highly inadequate for the moment, she realized.

“You are the missing piece in my life and I know that now. I’m sorry I was so foolish, but I assure you that I am hoping it’ll never happen again. I do love you and I don’t want to let you go. I don’t ever want to go back to my place, alone and without someone I love around. I love you, Taryn, more than anyone I know. This love, it scares me…it consumes me. I don’t want to leave here today without knowing that I’ve done everything possible to show that I want to commit to you right now and for always.”

Taryn looked down into Sylvain’s sexy and revealing eyes. She could see his emotions reflecting in them and it was absolutely amazing. She breathed in, not able to take her eyes off his.

“Do you think that you could answer me before I have a heart attack?” Sylvain asked. He sounded joking, but he was actually quite serious. “Preferably with a yes,” he added afterward.

“Yes,” Taryn said quietly. Then she said it again, only louder and leaned over and tackled Sylvain to the ground and began kissing him madly with many individual kisses. She kept repeating the words over and over between them, unable to stop.

“I like your enthusiasm, future Mrs. Richard,” he said.

“What about future Mr. Summers,” Taryn added, laughing.

“We’ll find the compromise somewhere, I’d imagine,” Sylvain said, laughing too.

In that field, under the walnut tree, the two consumed their engagement. Taryn lifted her sundress up and slid down on Sylvain, wrapping her arms around him and staring at him closely as they each moved rhythmically, excited to unite together at that moment and for life.

  Epilogue

A more perfect and brilliant wedding could not have been had. Sylvain had a few of his closest BBBBC friends there, along with their wives, and naturally his brother, Jacob, was his best man. Taryn’s maid of honor was the same one she’d had when she tried to marry Darren the two times before, but this time she was experiencing the wedding that was meant to be.

Violin music wafted through the air of the vineyard as Taryn and Sylvain exchanged vows, each looking at each other and easily saying the words that would commit them to a life of love and friendship together. Neither had ever felt more complete before as they did at that moment.

After the ceremony, the new extended family of Sylvain, Jacob, and all of the Summers celebrated and had fun. It ended up being a union that bonded everyone together on many levels, not just marriage alone. A new family was created and the two boys who’d been abandoned by a family found an abundance of acceptance in their new one. Everyone was stronger and better than they had been before. Nothing showed that more clearly than when Summers Winery received an order for a large shipment of wine for their latest client, Richard Enterprises.

There were no doubts in anyone’s minds that Taryn and Sylvain were the perfect mix and pairing. They were a compliment to the meal of life and the celebration of life’s truest treasure, love and acceptance.
