“Let’s leave these two alone.” Lyson pushed Mac out of the room.
“So it’s official then,” said Ash. “We are now a couple, so you can’t go anywhere.”
“I don’t want to be anywhere else. I want to be here, with you.”
“Good.”
She traced a finger over his arm, stirring the longing inside him to have her closer. “I went and talked to my mother earlier. It’ll take time, but we understand each other’s point of view. It’s a good start. She said that I can stay there.”
“You won’t stay at Dragonspark?” A pang of disappointment settled inside him.
“I wasn’t sure how you would feel about that. Everything was so rushed before and I don't want to push you into anything we're not ready for. I’m falling madly in love with you, Ash Dragonspark. I don’t want anything to happen to ruin my chance with you.”
“It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not fine. I wasn’t honest with you about Princess and I should have been. I wanted to tell you so many times but I wasn’t sure how to do that without you hating me.”
He placed a finger on her lips. “The only thing that matters is what you do now. People do things in their past that makes sense at the time, but when they know better, they do better. I know that you’ve chosen to do better by your actions. You didn’t need words.”
She whimpered. “Thank you.”
He stroked her cheek. “I want you in my bed, Caran Rivers, every night. I feel the same as you do, and I’m not going another moment without you by my side. We haven’t rushed anything and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
She raised a skeptical eyebrow. “You wouldn’t change anything?”
“Okay, the part about being shot, yeah, but I meant with you. I wouldn’t change any of that. Move in with me. If I’ve leaned anything about this, is that time can be short and I know what I want, I’m not wasting time waiting for the right time. That time is now. I want you, Caran. I love you too.”
Her lip trembled and she leaned down and gently kissed him. “Yes, I’ll move in with you.”
He hugged her best he could with his chest bandaged. He would be fine, better than fine with Caran by his side. He needed her and she needed him.
And he couldn’t wait until he was able to show her that. Over and over again.

Tessa threw the stapler across the room so hard that it dented the far wall when it hit. She twisted and faced Elle, her fists clenching and unclenching. “She wasn’t supposed to fall in love with him,” she spat. “I was an idiot to think she still pined over her stupid ex. All she had to do was find out where they were. Not help them, for Christ sakes!”
“We know their general location now, we can plant members around the town and wait. This time we’ll follow them. Find out where they are.”
“No!” Tessa slammed her fist down on the desk. “No more recruits who are bound to mess this up. I need this done right.”
Elle pressed her manicured fingernails into her palms. “Then I’ll do it. I’ll head out to that hinky little town and scour the area. Someone will know something.”
Tessa narrowed her eyes. “I need you here. If anything happened to you, I’d be lost.”
“I can do this.”
“I know you can.”
Elle strode across to the window and looked out at the buildings. “We’ll take down Dragonspark if it’s the last thing we do.” She turned, a wicked smile crossing her lips.
As much as she didn’t want Elle to go, Tessa knew that she couldn’t trust anyone else. Her hatred for Mac and the rest of his idiot group overshadowed the friendship she had with her assistant. She was the only other person in the world that understood why they needed to be gone, and the only person she trusted.
“I should come.”
“No,” said Elle. “You’re too important. You have to stay here and be safe.”
“You’ll let me know every step you take?”
“Of course.”
“Okay.” Tessa heaved a heavy breath. “Go and find out where they are, and when you do, we’ll destroy them.”
Elle smiled. “Yes, we will.”
